  1. That is a great website in terms of artist bios and discographies. I might quibble with some of his genre definitions, but defining contrived genres, as opposed to those that evolve naturally, is problematic. An even better site for this kind of stuff is Tony Wilds' Vinyl Safari. Again, I don't agree with many of his assessments, but his descriptions are compelling. http://www.hipwax.com/music/home.html
  2. It's remarkable that the elements remained in such good shape after 50 years, especially considering that they were in a basement. Also remarkable that the concert series was largely forgotten.
  3. Bring Kleenex. I had tears in my eyes at many points.
  4. It was fantastic! I hope the entire concert series is released on DVD.
  5. I mentioned in this related thread that Ms. TTK and I watched this last night. Anyone seen it?
  6. Ms. TTK and I watched Summer of Soul last night. Has anyone seen it yet? I couldn't find an existing thread.
  7. I consider Now Sound to be post-Beatles-era music in which aging jazz and easy listening artists are turning on and tuning in to the sounds, moods, and vibrations of today. Many CTI and Verve albums would go into this section, along with KPM 1000 series library albums. Miles electric stuff. Also stuff on Groove Merchant, Tribe, Black Jazz, and (some) Strata East. Burt Bacharach and Tony Hatch go in Now Sound. The Ferrante and Teicher album where they do "Hong Kong Soul Brother" goes in Now Sound. I include many film scores from the mid-60s to mid-70s in this area. Also Blaxploitation scores and funk too. Funky Latin and funky Brasilian go in this section also, for example, the Tito Puente album where he does "Last Tango in Paris." I also forgot Crime Jazz and Spy. The embarrassment, given my name and avatar.
  8. I bought most of mine at thrift stores and flea markets.
  9. That is brilliant. Sometimes novices are better at seeing through the bullshit than experts.
  10. Oh, and Disaster Movies.
  11. Now playing an album by a certain Organissimo member. I don't want to out him, if he chooses to fly under the radar, but I will say that it is excellent.
  12. I pace myself, and I hydrate. And if I'm even remotely concerned that I overdid it, I drink a coconut water before bend. Instant hangover prevention. Oh, and I forgot to mention additional genres I use: Jazz/pop vocals French San Remo Festival International Eastern/sitar Moog/electronic.
  13. Well, alcohol does come into play with regard to the genres. I spin Latin Jazz and Exotica when mix rum cocktails. Wine tends to go with Now Sound. And straightahead jazz demands an Old Fashioned or three.
  14. I divide my physical albums/CDs and my digital files into genres, although some of these are idiosyncratic genres that are meaningful to me. I may have a single artist filed in four or five different sections, depending on the nature of the music. I might also file an album based on the style of the money cut. For example, if an otherwise ho-hum jazz album has a killer Latin cut, I may file it in the Latin section. As far as jazz, I have a straight-ahead jazz section. However, lots of jazz, to varying degrees, is also filed in Now Sound, Latin, Brasilian, Exotica, Space-Age Bachelor Pad, and even a few in the Outer Space and Astrology sections. For example, CTI albums go in the Now Sound section. This approach works for me.
  15. Superman was a cat person, so he took Streaky the Super Cat. Actually, I remember the Legion of Super Pets as being more a part of Superboy/Adventure Comics. Did Superboy have a Fortress of Solitude, or did he have to grow up first?
  16. Unfortunately, yes. A terrible look.
  17. I love the idea of needing a Kickstarter campaign for such a popular and lucrative genre of music. Some of the artists who will be included could have picked up the tab for the whole thing.
  18. Green, Red, White, Gold. There may have been blue also. Red always affected him differently: rainbow Superman, third-eye-in-the-middle-of-his-forehead Superman, but the effects were always temporary. Hence, the LSD analogy.
  19. Nothing can kill an art form faster than a Smithsonian anthology. Sorry to see rap and hip hop go.
  20. Yeah, I'm looking forward to this also!
  21. Well, you had red kryptonite, which was like LSD for Superman.
  22. Yes, in addition to the Third Wave, we need many others such as the two Nelson Riddle albums, Horst Jankowski's For Nightpeople Only, "Roland Kovacs' Trip to the Mars, and that France Boland album with the track that sounds like Les Baxter's Que Mango album.
  23. I am not familiar with the story you reference. My era of DC comics is early- to mid-60s via the comics that my older brother had. The Legion of Super Pets was featured to varying degrees during this era. I bought some DC comics in the early 70s, but I did not generally like how the artwork had evolved at that point. Has DC ever done throwback issues, featuring new stories but art styles associated with earlier decades?
