Any interest in an ongoing thread on this topic? I will start with a few longtime favorites. Assuming there is any interest, at the risk of being an authoritarian, may I suggest including a link to the original thread? #1: Chuck Nessa in "Favorite Sinatra Lyric Ad Libs:" "OK, he's had enough." #2: Jsngry in "Charles Mingus's Secret Egg Nog Recipe Will Knock You Off Your Ass:" "Just, when you see the cat using the toilet, don't think your drunk, you're not."

Live version of Ahmad Jamal's "Poinciana"

I love how he ends it on the Hendrix chord, 11 years or so before Hendrix recorded! Les Baxter does not get the respect he deserves, IMO. He is often dismissively placed in the "lounge music" category, but his arrangements have all kinds of incredible stuff going on. He is the missing link between Duke Ellington an Sun Ra. -

Yeah, "sessy" is actually a higher compliment than "sexy," so there will be little doubt regarding the speaker's intentions. -

Don't forget the effects of the leisure suits. Those petroleum-based fibers must have effected his brain. -

The 1960s is the missing link for Bill Evans. He no longer sounds like 1950s Bill Evans, but he had not yet started to rock the leisure suit look, which we all find very sessy. -

Not to mention the leisure suit, which had more to do with it than anything, IMO. -

When you guys have a second, you should check out Les Baxter's avant-garde arrangement of "Poinciana." He keeps the melody in the major key, but harmonizes it in the relative minor. it is by far the darkest and weirdest version of "Poinciana" that I've ever heard. It begins at the 11:18 mark: -

A couple of weeks ago, I heard this from the next room and went to the family room to hear what it was. My wife was watching this via YouTube on TV. Agree, it is a cool performance! -
She was awesome in Short Cuts. I love her version of "Give Me the Simple Life." RIP.

Yes, I get that, but then others were saying that things have sold for less than the original retail prices. Setting aside delusional sellers, who always haunt various corners of eBay, I'm just curious if the prices on these sets in general have been dropping.

So the prices on these are dropping? I've never bought a Mosaic set for a variety of reasons. That might change if the prices are decreasing.

I received Jazz for Moderns, thanks to a member here who sold it to me at a very reasonable price. I have now listened to it, I believe, 5 times. I have been doing other things while listening, so I have not given it my undivided, but I think I have formed a general impression of it. I very much like the album, although individual tracks and melodies thus far have not really distinguished themselves. Everything feels like it is more or less of the whole, which for me is an extremely positive thing, as I tend to love albums that create their own consistent universe. The phrase I would use to generally describe this album is "Bullwinkle Moderne," and I use this phrase in more than one sense. First, some of the harmonies and extremes in pitch remind me of The Great Frank Comstock's Bullwinkle bumpers. Second, the music sometimes feels like the aural equivalent of minimalist moderne Bullwinkle backdrops, in particular some of the backgrounds used in "Fractured Fairy Tales." So, I am very happy with this purchase, and it lives up to its title and album cover. As we all know, the music would not be anywhere near this good if the title and cover art were boring. Album cover art is, after all, the reason we love music to begin with. I will soon post my reviews of Tatro's aforementioned scores for The Invaders.
