  1. A bit surprised to discover that I have accumulated 15 Ahmad Jamal LPs. As I mentioned earlier, those Argo albums were everywhere for short dough in the 1990s. Now spinning a self-titled album on Argo, #636, beginning with Lecuona's "Taboo."
  2. Paul Horn plays on Cal Tjader's first Verve album, "In a Latin Bag," from 1961. This track, "Triste," - not the Jobim tune - is stunning.
  3. 2112 A Farewell to Kings Moving Pictures Fly By Night Hemispheres. Seriously, I prefer that they don't sell. They've been a useful tax write-off.
  4. Yes, and please stream my albums. CD Baby sends me quarterly deposits ranging from $100 to $104.
  5. Exactly. And the best musicians are also the nicest people. That is why you should unload your Miles Davis and James Brown albums.
  6. I don't have anyone on my ignore list. The most obnoxious posters are often the most knowledgable and thought-provoking.
  7. Mrs. Korean is a jazz girl. When we got together, she had "Satan in High Heels" by Mundell Lowe! She also had "Lonelyville" by Kenyon Hopkins! How do you not marry a woman with those two albums in her collection?
  8. OK, thanks. I came across him when I found my "Mike Nesmith is More Important than Gram Parsons" thread, and he agreed with me.
  9. How do you know? Have you asked her for her preferred pronouns?
  10. Thank you. Moms Mobley, a.k.a. Clementine. Either way, I miss her, and I enjoyed her contributions. I hope she comes back.
  11. She stopped posting here several years ago. Before she was Moms Mabley, she posted under another handle that I've forgotten. Anyway, I miss her provocative posts. I hope she is doing well.
  12. Says the silverback gorilla. Sometimes, I find Ramsey Lewis's music too hot. And sometimes, I find Bill Evans's music too cold. And at those times, I find Ahmad Jamal's music, in a Baby Bear way, just right. So Ahmad Jamal does fill a void for this Baby Bear.
  13. Actually, If Charles Manson had written the Singers Unlimited stalking song you posted, The Beach Boys may have covered it, and Dennis would have claimed the writing credit.
  14. When piano trios were popular, I think Ahmad Jamal filled a void between the more commercial trios like the Three Sounds, Ramsey Lewis, and the more "artsy" trios such as Bill Evans. Feel free to push back on that assessment if I am mistaken. Poinciana:
  15. His arrangement of "Poinciana" was quite popular in certain circles for a while. I believe that many of his masters were lost in the Universal fire.
  16. His LPs were everywhere for short dough in the 1990s.
  17. I can't hear that track on "Friends," but I can hear it on a Free Design album.
  18. He said that she could drink anyone from the Kenton band under the table. He described being on the road with Kenton, and after everyone had fallen asleep on the bus after a gig, Art and June would still be drinking.
  19. Do you remember what Art Pepper had to say about June Christy during their Kenton days together?
  20. Thanks. The CD that I have includes the color (stereo) cover art, but includes the mono album and another dozen stray tracks. The running order is all messed up also. I had to burn my own version to recreate the 12" album.
  21. At least one of Jackie Gleason's albums. Also Martin Denny's first album.
  22. June Christy's classic Capitol album "Something Cool" was originally recorded in mono. A few years later, she and Pete Rugolo re-recorded the album in stereo. I have only had the mono LP and mono CD of this album. Is anyone familiar with both versions? Did Pete Rugolo use the same arrangements for the stereo album, or did he alter them? Did they generally try to recreate the earlier album, or did they take liberties?
  23. That Shelly Manne Peter Gunn album was one of my introductions to West Coast Jazz!
  24. Glad they are finally being released. Nearly 50 years in an Austrian jail is a long time.
