  2. A friend of mine is a HUGE Nina Simone fan. He and his wife got to see her live a few years before she died. The next day, I asked him how the concert was. His reply: "One day, I'll have a great story to tell, but right now I feel like I was robbed of a hundred bucks."
  3. I have included Joe's "Juba Dance" on comps of both exotica and futuristic abstract twilight zone jazz. It works in both settings.
  4. I'm not an expert, but there have been cases of this sort of thing - apparent paranormal activity that was being perpetrated by projections of people's psyches, kind of like the ending of "Forbidden Planet" if you've ever watched that: Sorry for the spoilers - but the "monster" was actually the collective id of the planet's inhabitants. Either way, I think you should have the place checked out. Positive vibes in your direction.
  5. In addition to the possibility of spirits, it is also possible that the occurrences stem from projections of living people.
  6. Dan, I'm sorry if I missed this detail, but how long have you lived in this house? Who lived there before? The part about you visiting CT threw me for a loop. I always thought these sorts of occurrences were location-based.
  7. The homoerotic aspects are admittedly hard to resist.
  8. I really love those Joe Chambers tracks from this period.
  9. Curling is the most Monty Python sport ever. It reminds me of the snooker emcees on Mitchell and Webb.

  11. Yes, in theory it should sound better because it's spinning a little faster. Whether it sounds $60 better is another matter.
  12. I have been listening to Gil Melle's score for "The Andromeda Stain" non-stop. While this does not strictly fit the sub-genre I was addressing with this thread, it fits in nicely. A range of stuff from proto-ambient to things with melodic phrases and definite rhythmic pulses. Uses electronic instruments along with manipulated sounds of drums, bass, alto flute, piano, maybe more. I think this limited edition CD has already sold out.
  13. Yes, Something Cool. Yes, this was not exclusive to Capitol.
  14. Yes, I fantasize about going back in time and raiding the cutout bins. Blue Note and Impule albums for the taking. I bought what I could on my busboy's salary. I left a lot of great stuff behind.
  15. Tony Scott - S/T - Verve (yellow label promo, stereo) featuring "Ode to an Oud," "Homage to Lord Krishna" and "Swara Sulina."
  16. Billy Strange - Secret Agent File - GNP (orange label, stereo)
  17. Does this set include music from the sessions that didn't make it to LP?
  18. Sinatra - Come Fly With Me - Capitol (rainbow, mono, UK pressing). First time hearing this in mono!
  19. Milt Jackson - Second Nature: The Savoy Sessions (Savoy, mono). 70s twofer collection of 50s material.
  20. Recently upgraded my copy of OTL on LP. I had a scratchy mono US pressing, but found a very clean UK mono pressing (not a fold-down). Very nice in mono. Also found a UK mono "Come Fly with Me" at the same time. I know this only in stereo, so I'm looking forward to the mono version. EDIT: Listening now. Boy, you really hear the marimba in the instrumental section of "Brazil." It is buried on the stereo version.
  21. Great, now all I have to do is think of some WEA albums from the early- to -mid-80s that I need on CD.
  22. I've had the LP on United Artists for ages. Some nice stuff on there. Music by Adolph Deutsch, who is probably most famous for scoring "The Maltese Falcon."
  23. I am obssessed with Sonny Lester. Gotta love a guy who had a label as cool as Groove Merchant, and who also did "How to Strip for your Husband" and "How to Belly Dance for your Husband" albums.
