  1. Blossom Dearie - May I Come In? - Capitol (yellow label reissue, stereo)
  2. Egberto Gismonti - Sonho 70 - Phillips (Brazil, stereo)
  3. Mancini's music for "Charade" heard in the film is pretty great, but less than half of the LP is very good. I'd love to hear a CD of the actual film music from this one, but that will probably never happen.
  4. OMG Lux is gone? or OMG someone married Chuck?
  5. Skip Martin - Mike Hammer - RCA (black label, mono)
  6. Your tax dollars at work. Talk about a non-issue.

  12. I don't necessarily disagree. I just think absolutist rules like this are not facts. Stereo recording was a learning curve for all engineers as was stereo mastering. Understood. I will also say that I think RVG "got it" with regard to instrument placement in stereo long before a lot of other engineers. For example, he picked up on putting the louder, more cutting instruments off to one side or another, while centering the instruments more likely to get lost in the mix (like the bass and piano).
  13. I wonder who Q's scouts were for this "exploration"? If I catch your drift, I can tell you that both Billy Byers and Bobby Scott play on the album. Whoever arranged it, it's a nice album, and it contains some stuff that never made it to Mancini's albums, like "Soldier in the Rain" and "Bird Brain."
  14. Quincy Jones Explores the Music of Henry Mancini - Mercury (mono)
  15. Jack Fascinato - Music from a Surplus Store - Capitol (rainbow, mono)
  16. In my opinion, though Chuck doesn't agree with me, most of RVG's stereo mixes achieve a better balance when collapsed to mono.
  17. Herbie Mann Nonet - Flute, Brass, Vibes & Percussion - Verve (stereo) "Ritual" has to go on my Herbie Mann exotica compilation!
  18. I'm no football fan, but channel surfing this evening, I was delighted to see these guys slapping each other's asses in public!
  19. Piero Umiliani - Sweden Heaven and Hell - Easy Tempo
  20. Celebrating Superbowl Sunday by NOT watching the Superbowl and playing nothing but European music. Now: Michel Legrand - The Thomas Crown Affair - UA (stereo, pink and orange label).
  21. Agreed. I always felt that Tim Buckley's "Happy Sad" was a perfect a companion piece to that album. Back in the days of cassettes, I had a well-worn 90 minute tape with each one of those filling up a side.
  22. Ya gotta admire a baseball team that plays football well enough to make it to the Superbowl.
  23. Nino Rota - La Dolce Vita - RCA International (mono) One of these days, I have to put together a Nino Rota compilation from vinyl and leave off the wacky circus/parade numbers.
  24. Celebrating Superbowl Sunday by NOT watching the Superbowl and playing nothing but European music. Now: Armando Trovaioli - Seven Golden Men - UA (reprocessed stereo)
  25. Celebrating Superbowl Sunday by NOT watching the Superbowl and playing nothing but European music. First up: Francis Lai - Live for Life -UA (stereo)
