  1. You forgot vinyl.
  2. From my understanding, they actually mic the ambient sound (in stereo) and throw it out of phase, thereby reducing it considerably. I've never used them, but some report experiencing greater ear fatigue with these than with standard headphones. No idea if that's true. And if you try to listen to metal with them, you won't hear anything.
  3. A man after my own heart. I have both of those, and wouldn't hesitate to play them back to back! I hope your Equinox LP is mono. It blows the stereo version away.
  4. This reminds me: It's almost time to start spinning A CHARLIE BROWN XMAS!
  5. Miles Davis - Miles in the Sky - Columbia stereo Was there ever a mono of this?
  6. The piano concerto is available on the wonderful Charles Gerhardt RCA Herrmann collection, which also includes suites from "Citizen Kane," "Beneath the 12-Mile Reef" and "White Witch Doctor." This album is flawless, and an essential part of any Herrmann collection!
  7. He did a nice exotica album for the Dot label called "Polynesian Paradise." I think this is the only Lawrence Welk related music in my collection! Not counting the video that I posted
  8. Herbie Hancock - Iventions & Dimensions - Blue Note stereo
  9. They are about to issue Bernard Herrmann's "Mysterious Island" and "Fahrenheit 451."
  10. I agree that MMT is a mixed bag in stereo. A couple of the songs sound pretty bad in stereo, like "The Fool on the Hill." The ocarina is the loudest thing in the mix. "Penny Lane" sounds pretty good in stereo, though, as does "Hello Goodbye." The White Album is definitely better in stereo. In general though, aside from a few cases in which fold-down mixes were used, I think the US mono mastering had a depth, warmth and fullness that you don't find elsewhere.
  11. Also, there is an album that came out on RCA with two different titles and slightly different track lineups. "Japanese Bach Scene" and "JS Bach Is Alive & Well & Doing His Thing On The Koto" Features bach played on traditional Japanese instruments backed by a jazz rhythm section. Don't know if it's on CD.
  12. The Double Six predated the Swingles. There is no Bach or baroque material on the albums I've heard. Maybe someone else can elaborate.
  13. Marian McPartland - Bossa Nova + Soul - Time stereo. Love the Wurly in this context.
  14. The reverb is there and, yes, over the top on some of the stereo versions. The mono mixes are the reason to pick these up.
  15. I'll take a US mono over a German stereo any day. Capitol's mono pressings sounded great, and the mono mixes for MMT were superior.
  16. Being an expert on neither Prokofiev nor film music of that era, you may be right. I'll have to check that out.
  17. But it's currently only available in (bad) stereo on CD. They would also include the mono version, presumably, on the next capitol box. Actually, you can get all the tracks on CD in mono, but you would have to get the UK singles box and the UK ep box to put it together.
  18. What are some of your favorite BH soundtracks or individual tracks/cues? My favorite album will always be "The Fantasy World or Bernard Herrmann" on London/Decca Phase 4, which has suites from "Journey to the Center of the Earth," "Seventh Voyage of Sinbad," "Day the Earth Stood Still" and "Fahrenheit 451." I think he was the first composer who brought a more modern, subdued, psychological approach to film scoring.
  19. He was prolific as hell, as a visit to any thrift store in Pennsylvania will attest.
  20. Francoise Hardy - Mon Amour Adieu - Reprise white label promo. I LOVE her! Is she still married to Jacques Dutronc?
  21. Well, you could make a case for including "Hey Jude" and "Magical Mystery Tour," which was a US LP.
  22. Another thumbs up for Pelham, BTW!
  23. Hard to say without knowing more details. Sometimes contractual isses or the condition of tapes prevent an offical LP/CD releases of film scoring sessions.
  24. Oh? I see... (with respect to Barnabas Collins)...
  25. I have two of those three. TDTESS is one of my very favorites of his. Still need to get "Ghost;" I'll probably go for the Elmer Bernstein re-recording (which is highly regarded, if incomplete).
