  1. My favorite of this group is "Strings on Fire"
  2. Many of his best albums have not been reissued on CD. Among these gems are: Plays Richard Rodgers (Philips) Instrumental "Young Girls of Rochefort" (UA) Two live albums on RCA, circa 1975 Le Grand Jazz and Le Jazz Grand are both on CD, luckily.
  3. Today is his 75th birthday. I'm really spooked by this guy's talent.
  4. Michel Legrand and Friends Live (RCA1975) with Ron Carter, Phil Woods, Grady Tate, etc. It's his 75th birthday, BTW.
  5. There might be something I've been missing, but I really can't get into a lot of his "vocal" work. I think he's a fine poet and songwriter--and a vibrant proto-rapper--but this album is one of those instances for me where about half of the interpretations, heartfelt as they are, really don't click. I like "Pieces of A Man". tho. I like his first 3 or so albums on Flying Dutchman (including the one listed above), but he gets boring after that as far as I'm concerned. I have no negative words to say about his Flying Dutchman output, though. In his defense, EVERYBODY started to suck royally around 1975, so I can't hold him responsible.
  6. I'm donating my collection to Jazz at Lincoln Center and letting Wynton decide which titles are worth keeping.
  7. I LOVE this album! And it's very hard to find! Don't you like the music?
  8. So what do you think of that mono White Album?
  9. Dustygroove carries a CD reissue of "Curried Jazz!" Looks like that Saga album fetches high prices on eBay - high for me at least!
  10. I'll look for both! Yes, I'm familiar with the MFP label - I have some cheapo Beach Boys compilations on MFP from a period in which lots of their stuff was out of print in the US. And I have some Studio Two albums, such as Mandingo and "Space Experience." Thanks!
  11. I ship them outside of the sleeve, but keep them in the sleeve. I like to look at the covers without moving the record around. I can live with the occasional split seam, though it's never been a huge problem.
  12. Never heard of this! Is there a reiussue? Anything like the Joe Harriott albums?
  13. and Pharoah Sanders with the Latin Jazz Quintet (Upfront)
  14. Beats me; I never touch the stuff.
  15. Please don't insult these animals by comparing them to BS.
  16. Geez, which is worse? Parting with your favorites while you're still alive, or imagining their fate after you check out?
  17. Good points. It is also worth mentioning that many of the old "rules" when it came to collectibility went out the window with the internet era.
  18. Others may disagree, but one method I use to determine a record's rarity is the number of hits I get when I google it. Of course, if a record is very rare but legendary, it will no doubt get discussed on the internet.
  19. The perfect time to move in, when they're vulnerable... not funny I've got to test out my new material someplace. And you're coming with me to the Poconos.
  20. The perfect time to move in, when they're vulnerable...
  21. I'm getting over some sort of flu/virus that I've had for the past few weeks. After drinking lots of water and tea, I'm slowly reintroducing myself to the pleasures of red wine with a nice glass of merlot!
  22. Thanks that (partially) answers my questions! Have those Monk recordings ever surfaced since the time of that thread (2003)?
