  2. Escaped Chimpanzee Raids Fridge, Does A Little Housework Rhonda Erskine, Online Content Producer Last Updated: 1/17/2007 2:04:03 PM An escaped chimpanzee at the Little Rock Zoo in Arkansas raided a kitchen cupboard and did a little cleaning with a toilet brush before sedatives knocked her out on top of a refrigerator. The 120-pound primate, Judy, escaped Tuesday into a service area when a zookeeper opened a door to her sleeping quarters, unaware the animal was still inside. As keepers tried to woo Judy back into her cage, she rummaged through a refrigerator where chimp snacks are stored. She opened kitchen cupboards, pulled out juice and soft drinks and took a swig from bottles she managed to open. Keeper Ann Rademacher says Judy went into the bathroom, picked up a toilet brush and cleaned the toilet. Rademacher says the 37-year-old Judy was a house pet before the zoo acquired her in 1988, so she may have been familiar with housekeeping chores. Judy wrung out a sponge and scrubbed down the fridge. It took a couple of tries, but the zoo sedated the chimp, who fell asleep on top of the refrigerator with half a loaf of cinnamon-raisin bread she had pulled out of the freezer. The zoo veterinarian gave Judy a drug to bring her around. Rademacher says Judy was groggy but fine after the episode. The zoo says there was no danger Judy would get out of the primate keepers service area and onto zoo grounds. (Copyright Associated Press, All Rights Reserved) ©2007 WCSH6.com/Gannett Co., Inc. 3. I am SO happy to know that I am not the only person on the planet who obsesses over the records I pass up.
  4. Did you hear the last album he made before he checked out? I was BLOWN AWAY. He recorded the whole thing at home, and it's probably the best thing he did since ATMP.
  5. Some of the dynamics between George and Paul during the 1990s group interviews are pretty funny.
  6. W is mono. The stereo copies are rechanneled, and most have an ugly "duophonic" sticker slapped across the cover image.
  7. I like all of his stuff but, for what it's worth, I like the RCA album better than the Prestige albums. I have the vinyl reissue of the RCA album, but I'm not sure if it's on CD yet.
  8. You should call a doctor. Thanks for setting me straight! On to the record room...
  9. Usually spin vinyl at dinnertime, but I'm enjoying some quiet time now.
  10. Milt Jackson - Vibrations - Atlantic Stereo Dig the tunes with the wordless vocals! They sound like they're from a French soundtrack!
  11. Ooh! Can't wait for that Vol. 5 of "Jazz & Cinema!" I have the other 4. Now if they'll just put out more Blue Stars of Paris...
  12. He was one of the first jazz artists I explored. I have several of his albums, and don't listen to them all that often. But I wouldn't unload any of them either.
  13. TTK, how is that one? I have one of his Brazilian LPs called Samba So! which is good, but I don't think as good as the two Verve LPs I have of him. I would say it's really good, If you have two of his Verve LPs and like them (I remember you saying you got "Rain Forest" for Xmas in '66 - I know, I'm a geek). Basically in a similar bag, but there are horns and more instruments. Good arrangements, too. Nothing that's going to totally challenge your worldview or anything, but nice bossa chill-out music - especially if you have a drink. BTW, I had another Philips Brazilian LP by him called "Brazilian Blend," but I DIDN'T like that one. There was basically nothing "Brazilian" about it; it sounded like a hotel lounge band doing run-of-the-mill latin stuff like "Peanut Vendor" and "Besame Mucho." Another good one, which I THINK is a Brazilian recording, is "Murmurio" on Capitol/Tower (T 5058). I would recommend this one as well.
  14. Robert Drasnin, jazz musician (Les Brown, Red Norvo) and Film/TV composer (Man from UNCLE, etc.) is in the studio recording a sequel to his 1959 exotica masterpiece "Voodoo." It will be released later this year on Dionysus. Details and photos of the sessions are here: http://www.robertdrasnin.com/voodoo2.html
  15. Mosaic 101 question: Do the box sets include original cover art anyplace within the packaging?
  16. Walter Wanderley - Organized - Philips LP of Brazilian recordings released in the US in the wake of the success of "Summer Samba."
  17. Not in the US, but if you have a region-free/multistandard DVD player, there is a French DVD available. It's supposed to have English subtitles. Qui êtes-vous Polly Maggoo? I'm in All-Regionsville, Daddy! Thanks for the heads up...
  18. If you're ever looking for a Christmas album you won't instantly get sick of - AND if you love June Christy - get her album "This Time of Year," which was finally released on CD a few years back. It's a concept album, of sorts, with all original tunes written specifically for this album. A very adult, sobering, and mildly depressing take on the holiday trappings to which we've all grown accustomed.
  19. By far the best album in RCA's "Stereo Action" series. The concept of this 1961 LP? "What will popular music sound like in the year 1970?" And, of course, the WWII era guys involved, imagining a clean, Danish Modern future in which technology would solve our problems, came up with stuff WAY more interesting than anything heard at Woodstock. They couldn't have imagined a future controlled by unwashed hippies.
  20. I have this! Lots of rare stuff that doesn't show up elsewhere. Has "Polly Magoo" made it to DVD yet?
  21. Not familiar with that one. I will! Jack Jones (!) did a great all-Legrand album, with Michel's orchestrations, in 1971, and it too is a gem.
  22. My favorite of this group is "Strings on Fire"
  23. Many of his best albums have not been reissued on CD. Among these gems are: Plays Richard Rodgers (Philips) Instrumental "Young Girls of Rochefort" (UA) Two live albums on RCA, circa 1975 Le Grand Jazz and Le Jazz Grand are both on CD, luckily.
