  1. Squirrels are splooting.
  2. Thanks all! I will have to look for that comp. Does Nich Tosches get into Louis Prima in that book? I ask because Tosches is featured fairly extensively in the Prima documentary.
  3. Beach Boys - Surf's Up (Reprise) This is a custom mix where I reinstate the two deleted Dennis tunes and get rid of the two dreadful tunes my Mike and Bruce, respectively.
  4. Yes, and it is a great melody already without that bridge, and then the bridge takes it to this whole new place!!! And that interlude, that I believe is used as the intro to the closing credits!
  5. I LOVE this and would happily display it in our pad!
  6. It's amazing how, as we get older, our sense of time changes. In 1982, jazz to me seemed like it had been around forever, yet all these big names were still alive and playing. I guess it made sense to get so many of the big names on one festival. Now, it's 40 years later, and I can't believe how recent jazz is.
  7. I think we are all just being more thoughtful in our replies, so we're not posting as quickly.
  8. I have only one track by her, on a Capitol Records Johnny Mercer compilation. She seems to be an important transitional figure, from what I gather, in tying various genres together into a sort of proto-rock 'n' roll.
  9. Prince Onago / Princess Muana – The Drums Of Africa (20th Century Fox, stereo). I believe this was the first LP released on Fox.
  10. How about a complete George Shearing MGM set? I have the excellent 4-CD EU box set that @mikeweil suggested. I'm very happy to have it, but I can't help but wonder if these tracks could one day be available in better fidelity.
  11. Richard Hayman - The Electric Latin Love Machine - Command (stereo)
  12. El Nuevo Pete Terrace - Scepter (mono)
  13. Cal Tjader Goes Latin - Fantasy (Stereo) Walfredo de los Reyes - Sabor Cubano - Rumba (mono) And overlooked Afro-Cuban Jazz gem, along the lines of the Cuban jam sessions.
  14. Mike Pacheco - Bongo Skins - Tampa (mono) With Carl Perkins, Joe Comfort, and Oscar Moore.
  15. Ramsey Lewis - Upendo ni Pamoja (Columbia) Randy Weston - Blue Moses (CTI)
  16. So I created playlists for 10 LPs, using the 10" versions of the first three. It all adds up to 92 tunes, and there are 100 on the box set. Who knows how long it will take me to find the other 8!
  17. I hear you. In Billie's case, her first three 10" albums (24 tracks total) were combined into two 12" albums, the latter of which represent the first 24 tracks she recorded in order. On the 10" albums, they programmed sequences. So I'm going the 10" route to see how they play.
  18. The Mel Torme Millennium Collection, a CD we inherited from Ms. TTK's Dad, includes a pic of Mel listening to the Teddy Charles Tentet LP.
  19. When he was last here, Stonewall received a couple of Michel Legrand CDs! We also enjoyed a higher-end takeout pizza!
  20. It seems that the early 12" releases attempted to come close to the session order. The 10" albums seemed to be more carefully curated (or randomly sequenced in a way that worked).
  21. Thank you, Stonewall!
