  1. Random record geek rant: I hate gatefold LP covers that have the insert on the inside of the gatefold. Dionne Warwick Scepter LPs are like this. They always come unglued, and I can never get the inner sleeves to go under the flaps. I have a Ben Sidran LP on Blue Thumb like this also. I'm glad this design never caught on.
  2. There was a period when I was scarfing up all these jazz and EZ albums with Eastern touches. I remember getting Alan Lorber's The Lotus Palace at around the same time I found Distant Galaxy.
  3. That was my recollection. Thanks!
  4. Was she involved in the Africa Uhuru album?
  5. I think that maybe society was sexist for keeping women locked out of many facets of the music industry for decades and decades. It probably still is.
  6. Last night I dreamed I was invited to a dinner party of a jazz pianist. I was remarking on his Steinway grand and told him that I played. He asked me if I wanted to play something. I almost played an arrangement I'd written, but at the last minute, I decided to improvise something. All I remember is that it was F and I threw in some Shearing chords. It was awful. The other guests kept eating and talking and clinking silverware. I got to the end and no one acknowledged that I'd even played. It was like a shreds video.
  7. I thought this thread was about Mosaic's female customer base.
  8. RIP. Sebesky's Verve album "The Distant Galaxy" is a masterpiece.
  9. We just watched the Ralph J. Gleason Jazz Casual show with Cannonball. Now we are watching Jazz Icons.
  10. And you made it happen! As someone who is obsessed with Cannonball's between-tune banter, I would have loved to have been there. Ms. TTK will get on these obsessive repetitions of words or phrases, for example, when we first got together, she kept repeating "Ren Höek, Ren Höek" over and over. After a recent Cannonball jag, she kept repeating, in a Cannonball-like cadence, "Why...am I treated...so bad?" This was hopefully not a reflection on her husband. I love this electronica track that samples Cannonball talking about Bossa nova:
  11. John Betsch Society - Earth Blossom (Strata-East)
  12. The Heath Brothers - Marchin' On (Strata East) I love this album. It is like the soundtrack for an educational or industrial film.
  13. Ben Sidran - Puttin' in Time on Planet Earth (Blue Thumb) The LP had some thumb prints before I gave it s scrub on the Nitty Gritty, but they were not blue. Funny, autocorrect tried to change "Sidran" to "Sideman."
  14. The funny thing about the Nat album is that Rick Holmes seemed to put more work into some of his narrations than others.
  15. Still, two double albums with a zodiac theme and Rick Holmes? I need both!
  16. Ahmad Jamal - Jamalca (20th Century Fox) Breakin' out the Fender Rhodes. Arrangements by the ubiquitous Richard Evans.
  17. Thanks. I must have an earlier edition that skips those two tunes.
  18. The catalog number for the Japan CD is: CP32-5241 T4988 006 60307 3 This looks like Amazing Vol. 1 with the addition of "A Night in Tunisia" and "Parisian Thoroughfare."
  19. I was much happier that Alexa played this song rather than, as she did previously, "Rock N Roll Woman," an incredibly stupid song musically and lyrically, and one which a cat would not like, as I discussed very eloquently in this thread:
  20. Don't know that record! It looks to be similar, based on the concept and the presence of Rick Holmes. So now there's another album for me to find...
  21. Yeah, but you'll always have that B&W footage of Paris jazz clubs in the 1950s, plus French New Wave films. Hopkins, tell us about the wines.
  22. I just assumed the whole thing would be in French.
