  1. Hopefully they can find some younger talented players who will use steroids. Guy
  2. I think this band needed one more strong soloist. How are the early '73 gigs w/Dave Liebman and Pete Cosey? Guy
  3. I'm listening to this recording of Miles Davis's nonet*, recorded about two weeks before their Philharmonic Hall concert (issued as In Concert) with better sound quality. This is the band with the electric sitar and tabla. Miles's playing (w/wah wah) is excellent. A dense, delicious polyrhythmic stew. My only complaint is that you can barely hear Michael Henderson. They perform Black Satin, Rated X, Honky Tonk, Right Off and the Sanctuary theme. Guy *Birth of the Cool, this ain't.
  4. How many other records have they deleted? And let's not congratulate Concord TOO much for reissuing PttP -- it was effectively in print. Guy
  5. vintage Phoenix Suns: Marion had 22 pts and 11 reb Amare had 27 pts and 21 reb Nash had 17 pts and 23 assists They didn't even need a strong performance from Barbaro. Kobe and Nash were talking some trash near the end of the game. Given that Pat Riley mortgaged the team's future in order to win a championship, Miami fans could be in for a lot of losing over the next few years. Guy
  6. Shaq fades away, not with a bang but with a whimper. Guy
  7. Pat Riley looks like a turtle in this picture:
  8. Happy birthday, Joe! Guy
  9. Yeah, but I'm not. Guy Regardless of whether you are or not, I think this is inconsistent with your position that it is Bonds' (or anyone else's) sole business whether they want to risk the consequences of steriods, greenies or whatever else they are using. There are only so many major league roster spots, after all (1200?) and even fewer starting jobs. No, I meant that all those health risks were Bonds's sole business. Guy
  10. Yeah, but I'm not. Guy
  11. Because to be competitive in major league baseball shouldn't mean one has to risk enlarged breasts, anger issues, shrunken nuts, liver cancer, etc. to keep up with the Joneses. Not that Andruw or Chipper are doping... Well, it's Bonds's own business if he wants to risk those things. He'll have a big record to show for it. Guy
  12. Huh? I'm saying steroids don't increase vision. Or talent, or skill. They increase muscle mass. Period. Steroids do not make you see the ball better. Sorry dude, you are DEFINITELY on the losing side in this argument. Bonds's performance has almost surely improved due to steroid use. Guy
  13. Rockets getting spanked. Guy
  14. Yes, the Lakers lost that one. And this time around, they are playing worse against a team that's improved. Guy
  15. Horry just killed the Nuggets. Guy
  16. You'd better hope for a miracle. Guy
  17. Yeah, he used steroids. I just don't see why it's a big deal. Guy
  18. For what it's worth, the amazon reviews suggest that this album is pretty controversial... Guy
  19. I have Musics on CD. As Jim said, it's nice but not great. I don't like the way the rhythm section is recorded. Also, the track where Dewey plays the autoharp or whatever the heck that is just doesn't do anything for me. And he has better musette features elsewhere. I don't think Dewey's other Galaxy album has been reissued on CD. I was listening to the Dewey/Blackwell duets CD again today, and it's just good as the last time I heard it. Dewey's really inspired and unrestrained on this one -- more than on most of the Old and New Dreams stuff I've heard. Guy
  20. amazon.com has an interesting interview (video) w/Paul Motian and Joe Lovano. They talk about the trio's history and the new album. Guy
  21. From tradesports, the probable winners of each series: Chicago vs. Miami: Chicago 94.5% Spurs vs. Nugs: Spurs 75.5% Mavs vs. GSW: Mavs 64.0% Houston vs. Utah: Houston 77.0% Lakers vs. Phoenix: Phoenix 93.0% Nets vs Raptors: Nets 71.5% Detroit vs. Orlando: Detroit 98.9% Cleveland vs. Wiz: Cavs 97.2% And most probable winners of the trophy: Mavs 30.0% Suns 22.5% Pistons 14.5% Spurs 13.4% Rockets 6.0% Cavs 5.8% Bulls 5.0%
  22. Yes, that is the conventional wisdom on OM. I've never heard that they were tripping for the Live in Seattle concert. Guy
  23. My brother texts me: I'm in the middle of a 'fuck charles barkley' chant right now! (Charles picked the Mavs to win four straight after game 2)
  24. Go Warriors! In the other NBA thread I wrote: We've now won TWO, so everything from here on out is GRAVY. Baron, JRich, Monta and Biedrins had some SICK plays tonight. Guy
  25. That interview with Jim Gray was ridiculous -- the game was going for a minute or two while we were wasting time on that interview. Game not over yet. Guy ps Mickael Pietrus should have been very high on SS1's "stupidest players" list. He steps out of bounds at least once a game.
