  1. I guess I should know who Andrew Jones is, but I do not believe that I do. Cat who knows his shit, obviously?
  2. Oh, I have no idea. Pretty much everyone I know that uses Spotify pays for it. I don’t think Tidal has a free package, and know for a fact that Apple Music doesn’t. So if I had to guess I’d say at the very least it’d be north of 50%. *edit* Hmmmm...I stand corrected. YouTube is blowing away all the paid streaming services. https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2018/05/25/the-top-10-streaming-music-services-by-number-of-users/#789cfce65178 Another interesting piece. Yoots are more willing to spring for paid streaming. https://www.forbes.com/sites/hughmcintyre/2016/07/29/millennials-love-premium-streaming-music-but-are-they-the-ones-paying/
  3. It’s an app, so the browser part doesn’t apply. And as I stated before, I subcribe to it through my Apple account, so they already have any and all information that will be of any relevance to them. Spotify is app-bsed, too. Though they do have a browser version. So what I’m saying is that at best the assertion that streaming services are surveilance tools used for targeted market is very overblown hyperbole, and at worst Grade A bullshit.
  4. Yeah, but what data? The artists I listen to? I highly doubt them knowing my appreciation of Tyshawn Sorey will help them target any ads at me.
  5. I get that, and for the most part we've all seen ample evidence of that being the case. My point is that I'm not seeing how it is even possible with streaming, outside of the free version of Spotify. For example, the Apple Music interface is clean and simply. It starts with a white screen and nothing more than a search box. I search, it give me results for that artist. I choose an album and listen to it. Only thing I see now is the album cover, tracks, info blurb, and at the bottom of the screen other albums from said artist, and occasionally albums from "similar" artists. That's it. So surveil away. I have no clue how ANY relevant information will come out of that.
  6. Understood. But, I pay for Apple Music through my iTunes account. So unless they “surveil” me through that account and somehow send me ads...somewhere else? It ain’t happening. Does the ad thing happen? You better believe it! But via paid streaming? I’d be interesting in seeing proof of that.
  7. I’ve heard people rave about Elac speakers, though I’ve never auditioned them.
  8. What ads? The only ads are on the free version of Spotify, there are none on Apple Music because it is subscription only. I mean, it sounds like a wonderful bit of “the Capitalists are coming to take away our freedom” nuttery. But in reality it doesn’t jibe with...reality.
  9. The $300 model is quite the bargain. https://www.tivoliaudio.com/shop/music-system-am-fm-bluetooth-cd-hifi-system?variant=MSYBT-1462-NA
  10. They made a big push to get her to be league commissioner when Tagliabue retired.
  11. I don’t personally know anyone that owns one, but I’ve seen nothing but raves about them. Never even knew about their alarm clock. Seems like a bit much.
  12. We certainly are. That’s why I wouldn’t want anyone thinking they are an outsider. Perhaps it’s just me.
  13. And what does it mean if you don’t have that little $ Donor thing under your name?
  14. OK, that’s what I was thinking, too. poundsignthetagmustgo!
  15. *smacks head* I coulda had a V8! Fair rebuttal. But it still strikes me as a Scarlet Letter, nonetheless.
  16. I’ve always been wary of donating to a message board that I thought I’d be booted from at any given moment, and where I was hated by most members (bed made, and uncomfortably slept on). But Jim Alfredson always showed me friendship, and welcomed me, even in my worst of days. Many apologies for not donating earlier. Though, respectfully, even though I just earned the honor, could we shitcan the ‘donor’ tag? There are other very respected members that have not, or cannot, donate. It just seems belittling, IMO.
  17. Grew up watching Hee Haw, so this one kinda hit home. Cat could play. Rest in peace, dear old childhood friend.
  18. While it's playing on your car stereo? I have no clue, though I'd think not. But with all the fancy gee whiz shit they build into cars these days, I wouldn't be shocked. My newest car is a 2011. It still has a boring old CD player.
  19. Gee whiz feature more than anything, I guess. But sure, why not? It's not like you're going to sit there and study it. But maybe a tune comes on that you can't remember which album it is from. Glance over, and bingo.
  20. If you have a newer car, the album cover shows up on the display screen for the stereo/entertainment control center.
  21. When Lois shut down the forums at Jazz Corner all of that went bye bye.
  22. I was never a comic book person, though I did love The Dark Knight material, but it’s impossible to not acknowledge what a powerhouse, and pioneer, he was in the industry. A true titan has been lost.
  23. Seems like every other version of Windows is a disaster. Because XP was great, Vista was a dumpster fire, 7 was supposedly really good, and 8 was nearly unusable unless you were on a tablet. Mojave for Mac does not support my iMac, which is a 2011 model. 8 years old! I can’t a PC ever making it half as long.
  24. I’m still on the previous OS X, and I’ve also noticed the glitch that doesn’t allow you to add album art. iTunes is truly it’s own Schroedinger’s software app. It it both great and horrendous at the same time. I thought Windows 7 was one of their best operating systems? Vista was the train wreck that caused me to switch to Mac.
