  1. I never see them around here anymore. Have no idea if they were legal or not. Thin paper(like modern British inports) and the vinyl on this one is ok. When I first bought it, it was a bit noisy. I have upgraded turntable, arm and cartridge since then and it was dead quiet with nice sound when I played it today.
  2. Yep, it's in my top 20 or so, but it's the only BN Rivers I have on vinyl, so I still want to get this set at some point.
  3. Another thing.. I believe Ebay rules state the seller is to leave PF as soon as he receives payment. Many, and I mean many sellers do not do this. I used to leave feedback before the seller did, but I do not anymore.
  4. Ideally, you should leave NF, but....Retaliatory negative feedback or feedback intimidation is common on Ebay and there is no recourse other than posting a short response. Here is a quick story. Bought LP that was described as stone mint. It had a big scratch and seller refused to refund. I told him I would leave NF and he said if I do that he will leave NF on me. I left him NF and he left me NF. Ebay did nothing. Paypal refunded my $$$, but NF is still there. This is a very rare case and I would do the same again. Since he already left you PF (he certainly is doing damage control. LMAO) maybe there is nothing he could do if you left him NF. Ebay makes it sound like their system is great, but there are some flaws.
  5. Coleman Hawkins on Verve. I do not know the title as it is a Russian pressing and everything but song titles are in Russian. I'll have to do search to get title. First song is "I'll Never Be The Same". Any other Russian pressings out there?
  6. That's what I thought, but I see it so rarely I wasn't sure. I'd have been all over it if the music budget wasn't shot.
  7. I've had a few non-paying bidders. Other than doing what it takes to recoup any Ebay fees, I'd just move on. I do not know if I would even leave negative feedback in this case. They sound like Ebay newbies.
  8. If you still want to sell it, LMK and I'll put you in touch with a guy in Seattle area who may buy it. Pays fast and is buying up instruments. I just sold him a Yanagisawa alto and he was great to deal with.
  9. I think the prices are good. LINKYPOO
  10. BTW, I can't get it. Thought someone else might want it.
  11. Rivers Buy now: $140. Isn't this a good price?
  12. I sure seem to have a lot of 'Live' Riverside LP's(Adderley, Monk and Charlie Byrd). Any particular reason? My favorite Riverside LP is a actually a Fantasy twofer of Dorham dates. Sounds real nice to me. I've played 'Since I Fell For You"(Dorham sings) and "Don't Explain(Abbey Lincoln)" a zillion times.
  13. No bacon grease laying around. For years now, the only fried foods I've eaten are oysters(in olive oil) and the occasional chicken. Very, very little red meat and no fast food. Freezer is usually full of fish(Dorado, Yellowfin and Yahoo) I bring back from Mexico and San Diego long range trips and of course salmon. Crisco may be what I try next. It just sounds right.
  14. Yeh, I thought you'd like that. Good description. I've steered clear of most original Riversides for the same reasons as a previous poster. The vinyl quality was too spotty(but I was buying used). Some great, some lousy, so now I just get OJC's. Your description of your Japanese Riversides sounds spot on for the Rivereside sound I am familiar with...albums from around 59-65.
  15. I think you waited too long for the Speakers Corner, but try HERE and HERE. Shipping will will be high and the 2nd places price is in AU dollars. Good luck and Hurry!!
  16. Sounds like we have a Japanese music lover here. I mean that as a complement. Many Japanese component makers strive for creating something along these lines. Eventhough, I hear and point out what I feel are flaws in some RVG LP's at times, there is a ton of magic in them grooves and I've never questioned that. Nothing quite like it, at least for me. I feel in asking questions and being open about what I hear, feel and think I'm getting to understand what that magic is and why it's there. I have 250 BN titles on vinyl and CD and a curiousity. Why do some reissues lose their magic? What is it in some recordings that makes you want to leave the room(that 15 Khz peak will do it), though the music is great? And other questions along these lines. At this time, I feel much, not all, of the magic can be in unique recording/mastering and playback methods(tricks). I think the original Blue Note recording engineer talks about something similar in an interview I read regarding the RVG series. Believe me, this a very part time 'obsession' with me and most of the time I just listen to the music.
  17. Mine turned out good, but nothing special. I burnt it just a little. I'll definitely use the other recipes soon. How about the 'range chickens' you can get now?? Don't all the missing hormones and antibiotics make it taste funny?
  18. I completely agree. Of course, there are people like your friend's father. The 'contest' routine, the worst. Usually it's just a phase they go through. I know some and it gets to be a bore, real quick. If you came to my house with your boom box and 3000 recordings you could add it my recordings and we'd have 6000 to get through. On your boom box or my good sounding stereo, your pick. Electronics should be used in the service of the music. I totally agree. Thing is, to my ears and those of a few others, too much of the electronics today does the music a disservice. Really, some of it is total crap and for a little bit more you can find something that serves the music. But, if someone is happy with a boom box that's great by me. To accuse anyone of something more than a different point of view or taste that does not align with theirs is rude and wrong-headed. How much music is enough, to where buying more is kind of stupid, also? How about the 'my collection is bigger than yours' camp? They have lost their way, also. It's funny watching people check my stuff out. Some go right for the stereo gear and others go right for the music. Interesting. Music is playing in my place constantly. The TV is never on. I think I have my perspective pretty balanced and so do many people I know. Lots of music, but not so much that I do not have room to walk around or ever enjoy, and a stereo that puts out music in a way that sounds fucking good !!! One that's musical and carries me away and can really let me appreciate what musicians are trying to communicate, but let's me afford more music, etc.. "In my "professional life" I will put my skills and "sonics" against anyone at any time." I don't know if I get this statement. Do you mean, 'against the audiophiles'? Fine, you don't need them, cool. No one ever said you had to have them(except your friend's father) . And if others have, screw them. I've read enough of your posts to start to get an understanding and I can relate somewhat in other areas, but when you go flaming a guy for wanting a better stereo that may lead to him enjoying music more, I have to say he's the wrong target of your frustrations(unless he's like your friends father). One of the biggest audiophiles on the planet is Chad (sp) of Acoustic Sounds. Did you know he has a few labels? One of which records under-appreciated blues players. A few you probably know personally, and Hoffman may have worked on these. Music I would have never heard otherwise. Plenty of other examples of audiophiles getting the music out and listened to. Other than the extremes you mentioned, your enemy could be in another location. When did jazz sales start declining? When did music sales start declining? What year? Hint: It was not at the same time high-end stereo sales increased or audiophile records started being pressed. Actually, this is just a rhetorical question, but something to think about. Also, instead of beating them, have you ever thought of joining them? I'm just curious, as I know nothing of the business end of things, but why don't you and your friend from Beehive get your catalogs(or choice titles or ones not in print) released on an audiophile or vinyl only label? Some great music just sitting there, doing nothing for no one. Not being a smart ass, just wondering. Trust me, these guys are in it for the music, too. Just from a different angle. An angle that is not pushing against you. Hope this is not too incoherent, but I hate typing and am eating fried chicken and listening to music at the same time.
  19. If you are, even a little bit, handy with a tool box there are some worthwhile DIY projects. Acoustic panels, decent rack , amp upgrades and kit speakers are things I've done. You can also do your own interconnects and speaker cables to good effect. To clarify: In this case You applies to all, but Chuck and whomever else is in his sect.
  20. Except for the money part, it's a lot like the free jazz sect. If you don't get it, you can't be one of Chuck's deciples.
  21. Now, that sounds yummmmmmmmmy!!
  22. I thought they used olive oil at KFC. Buttermilk? Maybe that was it, not that I was going to run out and get some.
  23. Have you gotten to the part where it says to sell me your MacIntosh amp? Do not have it, but heard it's good. I had Laura Dearborne's "Good Sound" and found it helpful.
  24. Michael, your fabulous prize is on the way! Enjoy!
  25. Old school I'll go with this one, for now. Thanks for replys and happy eating!!
