Questions for our foreign friends: Are there Borders stores outside of the US? Forgive me if that's a stupid question, but I really don't know. If there are Borders stores outside of the US, don't they offer the occasional coupon as they do in the US? There always seems to be frustration regarding the US-only coupons. David James said: Sure wish they'd extended that 30% off deal until the 20th when the Ray Charles Atlantic sessions are scheduled to be released. Even at Border's inflated prices, that would have made this available at a fairly reasonable cost. Is it not possible to pre-order and use the discount in that way? I know that it's not possible to use the coupon online (right?) but could you order perhaps in-store? I'm sure you've already thought of this.

After rereading the initial post in this thread I remembered how awful and unimaginable that scenario seemed. Now all that has taken place, and in addition we've descended several more levels of what was previously incomprehensible horror. Un-fucking-believable. These days I get up each morning and hurry to the TV, I guess because I'm curious to see what has happened that I couldn't even have imagined. Needless to say I'm relieved if it's a "slow news day". Looking forward to one of those ASAP. -

Pretty much the same routine for me. I think there are a LOT of people left to evacuate (I think I might have heard a number of like 50,000, though I hope to hell I'm wrong). I have no idea how they'll do it. I'm also wondering how they'll evacuate the "thugs" and how many more innocents will get killed in the process. I don't envy them this job, what a fucking nightmare! After watching the whole 9/11 event unfold, I thought "now I've seen it all" but I now realize there's a whole lot more to process. Each day is another shock. What a world this is right now. -

My feeling was "since all these journalists seem to able to get around the city, why does it seem impossible for basic supplies to get distributed?". With all those helicopters flying over, it seems they could have done more drops. In any case, things seem to be definitely improving today. I think the media/public outrage contributed to getting things into a higher gear. And I'll be first to give the gov't credit when they show they have their shit together. -
Comments were directly from the CD.

".....George Bush had first declared that the US will be able to get things sorted by themselves. George Bush said: I do not expect anything from foreign countries because we did not ask for anything. This country will stand up and will sort things out. " Yeah, it's going really well so far............... It seems to me that besides the fact that we do need help, accepting assistance might serve to heal some international wounds as well. The main objective, of course, is getting all those people to safety. I apologize for a political comment here, but it seems that it's a big part of the crisis. -

I guess I don't understand why it doesn't seem that they can even get basic supplies like food and water to these people this many days after the event. Where is the help? I think our government needs to focus much more attention on sending help RIGHT AWAY!!!! I understand that this is an unprecedented situation, but come on guys, let's GET A PLAN ALREADY!!! The Astrodome is not going to hold even close to everyone. Many more major cities need to volunteer stadiums, convention centers, etc. Jack Cafferty on CNN has been making some excellent comments, IMHO. Where is the help? God help these poor people. Edited for spelling -

IMHO there's a big difference between taking things you and your family need to survive and what seems to be just plain avarice. -

Dubois means "the woods", right? Will you be near Intercourse? Blue Ball perhaps? I guess you'd have to go "down south" for that. Those Amish do make a mean pie, though. Have a great time! Oh yeah, there's also "McKee's Rocks". I had to get a picture of that road sign.

My wife was just in New Orleans (at a music convention) last spring. We were talking about that today- the city she saw will never be as it was then. If and when we see it again, it will be an entirely different place. My initial reaction was "maybe there shouldn't be a city in that location anymore" but after reconsideration I think it should be rebuilt. Where else could all those people go? What about those who owned property? Isn't the rebuilding of the city part of the morale healing process for those who lost everything? Obviously it's a different tragedy than 9/11, but I get the same sad and empty feelings watching the coverage. Just unbelievable. I get so angry at those who take advantage of the situation, like price gougers and especially looters. I understand that some people are just trying to get supplies for their family (diapers, medicine, food, etc.) but those who were carrying out electronics and other essentially useless but costly items really disgust me. The lowest of low. I also didn't realize how much industry and commerce came through that port. Besides all the oil refineries there are many, many products for which we will likely be paying a lot more. EDIT: Also, regarding rebuilding, it's such a valuable part of our culture, specifically the music we all love. It's hard to imagine the US without NO. I just don't know..............
