  1. Earl Hines 'Plays Cole Porter' (Swaggie)
  2. Jazz 'n (e)motion (RCA Victor France) the Paul Bley disc
  3. The France Inter broadcasts schedule for Jazz in Marciac 2007 http://www.radiofrance.fr/franceinter/ev/fiche.php?ev_id=167
  4. France-Inter (not FIP) should broadcast the Marciac concerts once more. They had these broadcasts around 2110GMT - after the newsbreaks - during last year's festival. Most of those broadcasts are live.
  5. Ran Blake is the most European piano player
  6. Looking forward to listen to that Monterey concert release. Curious to find out how Steve Swallow fit in with the Monk unit!
  7. It's going to be a grayish weather (with a possible light rain) over Paris today for the final stage of the Tour de France. A fitting environment to this year's race! T.D. has excellently summed up the bonuses system for this final stage which should make this race pretty exciting. But frankly I don't care very much who actually wins this 2007 Tour.
  8. Sad news! Sal Mosca had made a first appearance in Paris earlier this year. A marvelous concert!
  9. 'Meditations' was the original title.
  10. Another Monday Night at Birdland (Roulette, mono) with Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley, etc... Have suggested Mosaic with a Select from that evening. There must be unissued music somewhere.
  11. Was there any unreleased Billie on that one?
  12. Verve released more a dozen of LPs from the 1956 Newport festival. Michel Ruppli's Verve discography does not list any unissued items. However it does not include the sets (George Shearing/Cannonball Adderley, plus Stan Kenton CDs) that came out on the Pablo label several years ago). Were there more?
  13. I have a spare copy of Braff-Hamilton's 'A First', the Concord Bellaphon edition. PM me if you're interested. Trade would be fine.
  14. Attila Zoller & Jimmy Raney 'Jim & I, Live in Frankfurt' (L+R Rcords)
  15. Won't be in the area at festival time. I like the lovely city of Marciac when it is not crowded with jazz aficionados! But I will listen to the live brodcasts on France Inter radio from several evenings (Shorter, Rollins, Zorn, Hank Jones...) and watch the concerts when they show up later on the Mezzo TV chanel. Hope you have a good time Steven! and don't drink too much Colombard
  16. Jan Strom's Jimmy Lyons Sessionography lists the session as having been recorded in July 1982. Need to get that Cadence release.
  17. chewy, these are the various releases of that Ayler session: http://www.ayler.org/albert/html/goin__home.html
  18. Clifford Jordan 'Bearcat' (OJC reissue)
  19. Yes, Virenque is doing the broadcasts for this year's Tour. That crash you refer to happened last year in the French Alps. e looks like he has getting over the injuries.
  20. The one that catches my fancy is that John Gilmore/Charles Sullivan date with Lonnie Liston Smith. Wish I could see this!
  21. I did not know that Meiersdorff had been a student of Oskar Kokoschka until I did a google search. Great teacher!
  22. A rare appearance by the elusive trumpet player Dewey Johnson along with Jimmy Lyons, Karen Borca, Paul Murphy and others during a recording session rehearsal http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=YpPraEdnKjY&...ted&search=
  23. I know at least this non-Chiaroscuro one:
  24. The classic example here is former French rider Richard Virenque who won the best climber trophy seven times between 1994 and 2004 in the Tour de France. Virenque was the star of the Festina team doping scandal of the 1998 Tour. Virenque denied for years having used any illegal substances before finally relenting in 2000 and admitting he did. He was one of the most popular rider in recent years and also became famous because of interviews where he uttered one stupidity after another!! He is now a Tour commentator for the french chanel of Eurosport TV
