  1. Which explains why I have seen a couple of copies of that disc 1 in secondhand stores
  2. Not sure it was reissued on CD, but the Hampton Hawes-Martial Solal duo recorded in Paris is a superb session.
  3. Don't think there is any need to overspend on an engagement ring. Save the money for the wedding ring. That's when things get serious
  4. Miles Davis 'Ascenseur Pour l'Echafaaud' (Fontana France, original ten-inch)
  5. I worked the AP wire every morning for years. Now that I am retired, I work the Internet every morning Amazing what one finds there
  6. The Ruby Braff 'Hi-Fi Salute to Bunny' album was already reissued in 1994 by RCA/BMG Germany with the additional bonus track 'Did I Remember' on the CD. I'll skip that one. But will be looking for the Quincy Jones set. By the way, Roland Kirk is featured on the soundtrack of 'In the Heat of the Night'.
  7. The Jimmy Giuffre 4 'Dragonfly' (SoulNote)
  8. FreshSound has just reissued this one with the original cover of one of the two Tivoli LPs that make it up Highly recommended, indeed!
  9. Not sure if that hasn't been posted before... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OH1kjtXByyY Sunny Murray, Elvin Jones, Art Blakey drum workshop in Copenhagen October 1968. Caught them when they appeared at Salle Pleyel in Paris a few days later.
  10. With one or two T, his name spells asshole in my book
  11. Coleman Hawkins 'Make Someone Happy' (Moodsville, mono)
  12. There's also this interesting and just published account from the Santa Barbara Independent:
  13. The video credits indicate January 1964. KD was touring Scandinavia at the time.
  14. Beautiful Thanks for posting this, Jim R!
  15. Ron Carter plays electric bass throughout 'Fenix', Gato Barbieri's album on Flying Dutchman from 1971.
  16. Didn't you get a burn of this from a friendly O. poster?
  17. Booker Ervin 'Exultation' (Prestige, mono, yellow Bergenfield label)
  18. Happy Birthday
  19. Small-group material (up to 10). Go back to the opening post for details. Those Victor sessions were recorded before Hampton made his first big band sides.
  20. Johnny Hodges 'Everybody Knows Johnny Hodges" (Impulse, mono, orange label)
  21. That Hampton Victor box is one of the best project ever from Mosaic. Have enjoyed these sessions for decades on various issues (the last and still current one being the French BlueBird 6LPs version in two sets). Some of the most essential jazz were recorded by Lionel Hampton and his groups. Will pick up that one if Mosaic does its usual good job. Any idea who will be mastering this?
  22. Freddie Redd 'Under Paris Skies' (Futura)
  23. Glad to hear you're getting back to legal ESPs! Among other things, the photos are worth the trouble!
  24. Also don't overlook Lucky Thompson's contribution to the recently reissued 'Lionel Hampton, the Complete Jazztone Sessions'. He has outstanding solos on that album.
  25. Catching up on the latest developments... NoF, glad to hear that you seem to be over with your problems. Enjoy Africa It's another world there!
