I think everyone promises "regular" maintenance? I do my own cleaning of mine but I know I could stop in at Sam's and have them cleaned up and you continue to get free testing and adjustments. The one thing I make sure to get is extended warranty on purchase. I basically have two sets now with the same settings so if the newest ones that I use regularly break down I have backups and don't have to suffer in unenhanced silence.

Can't say how the music mode will work over time (or over the next 29 days) but believe me, my hearing was so far gone on my first hearing aids 15 years ago, I was amazed at how loud everything sounded. You'll get used to the treble end boost soon enough. For those in a similar position, you also find yourself speaking differently, again because of how you are hearing with the help of the aids. Could not live without them that I know.

My thoughts are without a doubt have a third generator to dedicate to the well pump; Be absolutely certain that generators are serviced/ready to roll ahead of time - we thought both were good to go but older one with known issues was a real comedy of errors and trouble. Maximize gas supply well ahead of storm; Only wild card is possible investment in much larger generator for max power vs getting similar size generator to what we have for that third one that we need.

Mostly nonsense. I certainly hope that the 10 inch LP of three tracks with Lee, Nicky Hill, Ira Sullivan, Bobby Timmons, Spanky Debrest and Philly Joe shows up somewhere, somehow. Cause I am not paying $200 just for that.

Hope that never happens again TTK. It certainly sucks to be among the final few thousand to get restored, and I know someone who is also still waiting and very frustrated - her neighborhood is on but she has a downed wire in her backyard and is still waiting two days after everybody else came on. I was amazed to learn of Florida Highway Patrol and other law enforcement agencies were accompanying fuel trucks to their destinations. Could not fathom it, it until I was informed by my wife's horse helper that there had been a shooting at a gas station where she lives in Dade City. At the same time, on Sunday morning, I saw the gas station nearest us had gas, a short line had formed, and there was no fuel truck or police presence in evidence.

The link above can be confirmed as quite nice if you like that early swinging jazz style. And three hours long, too. Also was the start of "Young Swingsters" week at the West End, December 1979 and leaves me wondering if other nights got recorded and especially what other bands got recorded. Hopefully six more to come and dare I ask ... Percy France? He was appearing by then at the club if not necessarily getting booked as a leader yet. This one is also recent and very good: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/132344 Only 30 minutes of music but a rare group under the George Kelly Jazz Sultans moniker. Instead of just a trumpeter in the front line its: Virgil Jones, trumpet, Benny Powell, trombone, Norris Turney, alto saxophone, Peck Morrison, bass, Ronnie Cole, drums, Richard Wyands, piano, George Kelly, tenor saxophone.

It's come to my attention that reel-to-reel is not the only source for worthwhile Schaap recordings from way back when. Here is a link to cassette sourced MP3s: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/catalog?current_flock=false&f[collection_id_is][]=2137&f[description_source_search_facet_sms][]=Audiocassette&myresources=0&request_is_xhr=false&search_field=advanced&search_type=advance&sort=title_ss+asc&update_facets=true&user_ip=173.171.182.128 And an interesting one contained therein: https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/collections/2137/collection_resources/137221/file/254432 Brooks Kerr, Artie Miller, George Kelly, Sonny Greer. This search ought to catch all of them - Type is "Live Sound Recordings": https://aviary.library.vanderbilt.edu/catalog?current_flock=false&f[collection_id_is][]=2137&f[description_type_search_facet_sms][]=Live+sound+recordings&myresources=0&request_is_xhr=false&search_field=advanced&search_type=advance&sort=title_ss+asc&update_facets=true&user_ip=173.171.182.128

Some of us have to, until we die.

I think I am lucky to be on the border with Polk county where TECO had a restoration date of yesterday which they barely met. Our outage straddled the county line and was probably more on the Polk side than the Hillsborough side. Hope it comes back soon, TTK and thanks for the well wishes Lon.

Power came on about 5:00 yesterday afternoon, and when I re-set the house and the non-paying boarders for long extension cords and fans and the rest of it, I discovered that with TECO power restored, so was Spectrum internet. So its back to work this morning, can't say I am excited about it but on the other hand, it avoids giving the boss any ideas that I wasn't really missed all that much. The best part of the power restoration was that within 30 minutes of when it happened I was going to be rolling out the generator at the house to the well pump to re-fill 100 gallon tank of water for the horses among other things. That is no fun and the longer you have to do it the more exhausting it is. And cold showers into steamy houses that don't have fans running is no bueno either. So, we will finally prioritize a third generator of some sort so that we can have a pump-dedicated one that doesn't move once its wheeled out there.

This is getting pretty ridiculous. Police escorts for fuel trucks. Line workers spotted midday very close by. No change in status. TECO says Thursday for virtually all of Hillsborough County. I think we may play chicken with them on gas for generators until then. My wife drove 4 hours to her mom's just to increase gas cans by 50%.

As Kevin reported we made it thru ok. No power and only one generator that will run, which is a problem for the relatives. Hoping to have replacement part for generator tomorrow and expect to have barn damage repaired also. Then it's waiting for power and securing gas for generators in meantime. With one generator going we can get pump turned on for water at the expense of shutting down fridge and fans in the house. Blessing is that Temps fall to mid 60s at night. Comfortable sleeping weather and house not getting brutal during day.

uncle/aunt/cat/dog are secure in our concrete block home. Horses locked in. Track is improved both for us and for my friend on the Bay, if it holds. Now we wait. Won't be long. See y'all when I see ya.

Read the NY Times obit and discovered some baseball passings this year that I don't recall hearing about, so here are some free articles: https://www.nytimes.com/2024/10/08/sports/baseball/luis-tiant-dead.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Q04.13qq.cff-QltcYOsg&smid=url-share https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/16/sports/baseball/ken-holtzman-dead.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Q04.Khxr.9cxtofJjK3b7&smid=url-share https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/16/obituaries/carl-erskine-dead.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Q04.GUYn.IFYQ_TZIPVrM&smid=url-share https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/13/sports/baseball/fritz-peterson-dead.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Q04.FlJa.WhMUKSDk3_-S&smid=url-share https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/16/sports/baseball/don-gullett-dead.html?unlocked_article_code=1.Q04.K__X.jQ75w8l4klqR&smid=url-share

The cone is narrowing and still centered on Tampa. If it could slide south and hit Sarasota it could make a small difference for me and my friend who is so close to the bay. And a small difference is both a slender reed to hang your hopes on, and could make all the difference in the world.

Not sure how I didn't know this, but the classic/crazy wind up was a reaction to an arm injury and not how he threw from the start. With less of a fastball he had to adjust to add some deception. I loved it as a kid.

Current map is offshore (close but not yet) at 7 pm Wed and 7 am Thursday over Orlando. So I have no idea who might be indicating 2 pm Wednesday landfall. 2 pm Wednesday Tropical Storm force winds maybe.

And I haven't mentioned my buddy who skedaddled to their house in the NC mountains (somehow no damage there despite how western North Carolina has been described) but not before discovering that their insurance lapsed in March. They paid off the mortgage a few years ago so no escrow account, and insist they got neither a non-renewal notice, a renewal offer or a cancelation notice. They are surrounded by the bay

People should actually read the Safir-Simpson scale and consider ... what is worse than 'catastrophic' damage? Got a better adjective? https://www.weather.gov/mfl/saffirsimpson They also incorporate rain predictions into flash flood warnings plus storm surge predictions. 125 as it nears the coast gives me a little hope our barn and apartment/garage structure will live on. The problem is that the due west end is a gable roof. My wife may have to convince her uncle and aunt to come to our house for the duration. Edit to add: The two story structure that the aunt and uncle live in is directly in front of (attached) to the one story wood frame/metal roof actual stalls for horses. So that is a strong wind buffer for direct effects where the horses will be. We've also screwed down - extra, extra screws - the metal slats into the frame. I actually feel better about where the horses will be than where the family members will be.
-
Tampa Bay is in serious trouble period. Weakening makes wind field larger which widens the impact. I'd rather have lower sustained winds, period.
-
The "good" news: As of 5 am max sustained winds predicted at 125, which are hairy, but not 150+. The undoubtedly bad news: The current track line is within <5 miles from my house.
-
On the positive side our helper, Danny, got up on the metal roof over the horses and drilled in a box of screws into the wood frame and feels that the roof can't go anywhere. That of course presumes that the roof frame itself has no weak spots. Guess we will see!
