  1. Not to derail the thread but I recently tipped into the "diabetic" A1C from a steady "pre-diabetic" state before. Treating as wake up call to fix diet; a friend had same thing happen a short while before, he made dietary changes and first new measurement afterwards was lowest in years. Hoping to duplicate his results.
  2. Well that proves how different a world it is. Calling the catcher "motherfucker" is an invite for a very high and very tight fastball not that long ago. And its somewhat amusing to think that "motherfucker" isn't as bad, in this context, as saying "it was a ball, bitch."
  3. Intrigued. Thanks for posting.
  4. Number one, if a robo ump were in use, they wouldn't miss calls. So the question is moot. Number two (and its 6 am, speakers are off, I was reading lips myself - if he was audible on the game microphone then I am wrong - but I don't think you punctuate a correction with "motherfucker" and are in the box for the next pitch. More likely he said "motherfuck".
  5. I suggest you follow his channel. He does a lot of lip reading and seems very accurate. Not sure his secret. There have been other posts of his "breakdowns" and they almost always feature lip reading.
  6. This is pretty darn funny/entertaining
  7. Pretty certain that having volumes 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 of 7 volume series is an indication that there was interest in the series, now or in the past. Who wants to start with 1 and 2 knowing that 3 doesn't exist at the library? I agree completely with Kevin at least on his example.
  8. I intend to make sure my wife knows to contact Dusty Groove or maybe the SC seller whose name escapes me now, to come and take a look at it all and make a fair offer. f they aren't impossibly cheap on the offer it will be worth it. I've also thought about marking certain LPs, mostly blues, that I think are not run-of-the-mill and worth something.
  9. Not that I want to search out a Madonna recording but where does this come from?
  10. I had absolutely no clue that the same guy wrote "hooked on a feeling" "suspicous minds" and "Always on My Mind". That's some serious talent. RIP.
  11. Or garbage! Gotta be one or the other.
  12. Agreed and fewer still want to put their necks out and make comments on unfamiliar music. I feel like I should also point out that right now September remains open for this year.
  13. I know I usually contribute (poorly) but its been a rough start to June and I will be out of town this weekend ... I hope to listen and post sometime after.
  14. and with Ben Webster, and Jackie Mac and many others.
  15. https://storyvillerecords.com/product/live-in-valencia-92/ I guess I will have to wait a little while, these Storyville releases have made it to US Amazon but no listing yet. Amazon UK has it and Jazz Messengers.
  16. I never put his birth name together with the photo below, until now. RIP (and hope people enjoy bonus of a Roland Alexander photo, who I see was mentioned as his steady partner in music in the obit linked above). Leonard Gaskin Papers, Archives Center, National Museum of American History, Smithsonian Institution
  17. "Lingering forearm discomfort" is what mlb.com says. If you can't beat 'em, let 'em have a load of devastating injuries like we have! Sorry can't resist. And karma can't bite the Red Sox any worse than it already has. He made a couple of throws to second base in the top of the fifth, one from the right-field corner on Alex Kirilloff’s double, and another on Carlos Santana’s RBI single. The velocity on Soto’s throws on those plays was 75.3 mph and 58.4 mph, respectively.
  18. but i can't understand restoration of a state ID. If he was never licensed he couldn't have it restored so that he can drive again. The intermediate reporting made it sound like a typical beaurocatic (I hate spelling that word) screw up but if the case before him was 'driving without a license' it was totally understandable how the judge reacted.
  19. seems strange in the context of specific reporting that his DL had been restored to active status but not properly conveyed to licensing records. You don't restore a State ID but I guess if that is the case then he really was reporting in to a hearing on his driving without a license case while driving his car.
  20. The facts don't really match up though I would say that the reaction was true. Reality as I have learned is that the gentleman had his driving privileges restored but they messed up in the required updates and when he got pulled over he came up as suspended - but again - he was supposed to be able to drive.
  21. Did anyone catch this last night on the History Channel or on the BBC? The producer's took tape recordings of veterans, digitally "de-aged" them and then filmed actors (who resemble the veterans in their younger days) lip synching their words. There is a family connection to this - my brother-in-law sat down with his dad sometime in the 90s and asked questions about his war experience and let him talk and talk and the tape was sent to a museum eventually. His dad's name was Harry Parley and his doppelganger and his words are the first ones seen and heard on screen. I can't say for sure how closely the actor resembled Harry since I never saw pictures of him but I suspect it was very close. (When my wife and I moved to Delray Beach in 2004 we had no idea that Michael's father lived not five minutes away so I became the designated helper for Harry when hurricanes threatened or if he needed help for other things. Very nice man but I never had or took time to ask him about his experiences. And while thinking about Harry I have to mention something that was so funny, and so weird in its way, about him that was discovered after he passed: He was a little obsessive/compulsive and when banks switched to sending out scans of cancelled checks, he would cut each tiny scan into its own mini-check, and glue-stick it to a another piece of paper. Nobody knew of this habit but we all said it was "very 'Harry'. And there were boxes and boxes of them to dispose of.) ) I only made it thru the first two hours last night and will have to watch the second half online or catch it in broadcast but it was a very effective and affecting production. https://www.history.com/shows/d-day-the-unheard-tapes
  22. There's a lesson here that keeps me in the physical-object realm until the day I die. Including when I do a download purchase.
  23. And more or less as I posted this, we find out that Abreu sprained an ankle going down the dugout steps and is being sent to a foot specialist already. That has "6 weeks OR surgery and see ya in the Spring" written all over it. The season was toast already but this just puts another nail in the coffin.
