Then please explain the entire sentence, specifically the last clause of the paragraph and the final sentence. According to your contextual reading comprehension, "peon" would have to refer to Bonds. But why would Clemens, if he were secretly in love with Barry, regard him as a peon? And what about the last sentence? What are the "plays" being compared? I think I got it - Roger loved Barry. Its true that the elbow is the less dangerous injury. Pryor had the inverted W motion and his shoulder gave out. So there is hope that he'll be OK but only time will tell. If he maintains his stuff and avoids further injury (the latter is a big if), one year to wait isn't much. Its not like it starts his clock toward free agency any sooner. They'll still have six years of service time before that happens.
