  1. Beer with anything is better than water!
  2. I believe I read that for 17 of a possible 19 games, Phillies opponents would get Doc, Oswalt or Hamels. They ought to be extremely tough. What is absolutely infuriating is that its become plain as day that with a more typical level of injuries, the Red Sox would have waltzed to the AL East crown. Or lets just imagine that Youkilis doesn't bang up his thumb and that Pedroia comes back on time and plays the rest of the season. With the Yankees and Rays playing .500 ball for 40+ games, the Sox couldn't have made up the gap with both of those guys in the lineup? Their bullpen was an issue all season and I have recurring nightmares that Beckett & Lackey will pitch just like they did this season for the rest of their deals, but a healthy roster would have crushed the competition this season.
  3. I don't have anything to add but the topic made me think of this: "Mitchum!"
  4. If it is a hairpiece, why would anyone wear such a thing? Absent some evidence beyond your assertions, the fact that his haircut is so ridiculous is enough to tell me that it is his.
  5. I don't know but once upon a time there were CD reissues on "Suite Beat" of Vee Jay LPs like the Young Lions set.
  6. I wouldn't argue semantics with someone who thinks legitimate rights holders are
  7. DL please. I don't participate in these very often but I am definitely curious what one of the musicians among us would put together on a BFT.
  8. Yankees losing the division they led on September 1st for the first time in history: Maybe not priceless but would be pretty darn pleasing. Y'all know what final outcome I regard as priceless.
  9. Thanks to all, including the Facebook messages (yes, I pretty much never go there anymore, so it was nice to get a benefit from it). Turning 45 can mess up your mind a bit but its easier to take when you feel that your life is turning in a good direction and a lot of that comes from my changing professions. And the bosses helped to make it an even better day: lunch on them complete with chocolate cake, $50 gift card at Outback that Sue and I will use for our anniversary dinner next week, and sent home early to beat the traffic and have some time with my wife before my birthday dinner. I really lucked out when they hired me.
  10. I guess that proves it isn't really a cult - no self-respecting cult would let their domain name expire. They'd be too afraid of the consequences. As it is, I suspect some Gort was in seriously deep doo-doo.
  11. Here's the early schedule for next Sunday. Looks like Angels - Tampa Bay was probably their preferred choice, with Atlanta - Mets or Boston - Toronto the other possibilities heading into the season. On the other hand, does any know if TBS is obligated to show each team once the way Fox (I believe) is? It might be their last chance to include Baltimore in a national broadcast.
  12. Fellow Yankee Haters, take heart! The Rangers, who the Yankees have beaten like a red-headed stepchild since forever, showed that they can hang with anyone by completing a three game sweep today. Nothing sweeter than the Yankee bullpen blowing the first two games followed by Cliff Lee throwing like it was last October in the finale. Well, its sweet but will be much sweeter when they beat them in October. This will do for now - too bad the Rays missed a chance to move ahead in the division but now they host the stumbling MFY for three.
  13. Ping Pong, Matrix-Style:
  14. The funny thing about the baseball gods is that despite an injury riddled season and not having Youk & Pedroia it all comes down to Papelbon,Take away his 7 BLOWN saves and the Sox are leading in the wild card race! That is kinda amazing...still think that Francona should be voted manager of the year. That's not a realistic situation. I don't have the stats in front of me but he must average 4 blown saves a year. You can't eliminate all of his blown saves and say they should be leading the wild card. He ain't Mariano Rivera. So, realistically, you could say that if papelbon hadn't sucked donkey dicks this season then they might be closer to playoff contention.
  15. I've waited too long but this is definitely next on my list. Otherwise they're going to revoke my KD Fan Club membership.
  16. Reminds me of when the Rose Kennedy Greenway was being unveiled in Boston. One of my friends' reactions was "What the hell did Rose Kennedy do besides have famous men coming in and out of her vagina? They should call it the Rose Kennedy Urban Birth Canal." Who went in? Didn't think that the mechanics would have to be explained, but Joe Kennedy went in and a whole sackful of scumbags came out.
  17. There was a time in the 90s there was a country format station in NYC but that eventually switched. As for the question du jour, even if I download an album in MP3 format from Amazon or Walmart, it gets burned to CD. I have no digital storage of music files outside of Dime concerts that still wait to be burned to CD. Vinyl listening is limited to transferring new purchases (rare) or old LPs that I want to digitize. Funny thing is that my wife bought a car stereo for my birthday that includes a plug for a flash drive, then cleared off one of hers to give to me. I had to tell her that while I could see loading the flash drive for a really long trip (the unit can handle 500 CDs or something like that), on my still-new daily commute, I am enjoying catching up on CDs I haven't listened to or haven't absorbed enough, and that the whole point is listening to the CD from start to finish. There is no I-Pod and when I fly to CT to visit the parental units at the end of the month, I will proudly pull out my ancient disc man and CD case, no matter what odd looks I get from the ear-bud crowd.
  18. More reasons to be royally pissed off at the baseball gods.
  19. Didn't work for me but it did inspire me to go to Bing and find my old neighborhood on Long Island where I grew up. Remarkable to see what it looks like (not a single house hasn't been torn down and re-built) and then find, on the vaguest of memories, my way to the Long Island RR stop my father took into Manhattan, then two little league fields (at one of which I slipped on one of those metal fences and nearly killed myself when the wire sliced into my neck), then the high school where I practiced my pitching off the brick wall while my father and brother played tennis, and the name and location of two other summer haunts, Christopher Morley Park and Old Westbury Gardens and Mansion. "... The memories will be so thick they'll have to brush them away from their faces."
  20. Thanks for the advice; if my old fashioned letter to Best Buy's Corporate Care address doesn't get me some satisfaction about how I was treated by one of their car stereo installers last weekend, I've got some other ideas about alternative approaches.
  21. If he signs for less than 4 years/80 million dollars, I'll eat my hat.
  22. What a clothesline from the 1B! Mr. McMahon, pick up the white courtesy phone. Paging Mr. Vincent Kennedy McMahon.
  23. In Drew's case, he literally means "everywhere".
