Time to summarize the Goodspeak Universe: Performance Enhancing Drugs do not enhance athletic performance. That is,increased strength cannot result in marginally longer fly balls to result in more home runs or faster pitches, nor shorter recovery times, nor can they result in a faster swing that allows for slower/later pitch recognition with the ability to still put bat on ball and hit it in fair territory. If you are fortunate enough to "play a kid's game" for a living, you are not entitled to control who you work for or to have any influence over what you are paid. (Goodie is a proud liberal but worker's rights end at the six-figure salary level - beyond that you're just a rich, greedy bastard. No word yet on whether this applies to movie actors, who also get to play at a kid's game (who among us wasn't acting the first time they lied to their parents?), have the choice of what jobs they accept and at what pay, and make mind-boggling sums in an industry with huge revenue. Until 1973, owners had been benign custodians of the game, wonderful humanitarians who weren't greedy, or racist, offered free parking and concessions to their hard-working fans and were working on a plan in which the World Series trophy would be shared equally by all teams (because in Goodie's world, all students are "exceptional" and so is every ball club). Then an evil ogre named George Steinbrenner destroyed baseball (he was merciful with apple pie and motherhood because George had a bit of a weight problem, and well, despite being an asshole, he had a mom, too). The fact that George operated within the rules established by the courts and by collective bargaining between the owners and players is immaterial.

Baseball Steroid Thread
Dan Gould replied to Brownian Motion's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Former Red Sox GM Dan Duquette - who famously said that Roger was "entering the twilight of his career" before be became Roidger and cheated Father Time and the rest of baseball - gave an interview in which he said something somewhat surprising: http://www.thepulsenetwork.com/ What's surprising is that I don't know why Duquette would be privy to such information, but at the same time, unless he knows something, why go out on a limb and say such a thing? It would be easier to just say something about the fact that the grand jury is meeting on his potential perjury case, let's see what happens with that. But no, he asserts "more information and evidence" - sure sounds like something we haven't heard about previously. -
It wasn't put up for a vote. Yankee fan extraordinaire Rudy Guiliani got the deal done through the city council. I believe they used NYC-guaranteed bonds to raise the money.

Tiger's $750M divorce settlement?
Dan Gould replied to Aggie87's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
For her silence. Goodie doesn't believe that wives are entitled to any share of marital assets when the union goes south. Even if its completely the husband's fault. He also hates rich people and begrudges their wealth. Funny thing is that its not like Tiger inherited it, he was very successful at his work and parlayed that into a stream of huge endorsement contracts. But the wife is entitled to none of it. -

Yeah, everybody would be better off if every owner were like a Charlie Finley, Timmy? And you're a fuckin' liberal? Of course you are - you hate rich people. But you're also supposed to give a shit about workers not being slaves to employers, which is precisely what the Reserve Clause created - indentured servitude in which a ball player could accept whatever salary an owner offered, or he could go pump gas for a living. Oops, I forgot - you're a freaking moron without functional brain cells. Carry on.

I never have the sound on but considering its Anaheim and how many times the Red Sox eliminated the Angels and how many times the Angels have faced the Yankees, there's no surprise in what you report.

Ebay/Paypal Dispute - What are my options

Now that they have the more informative feedback, just give him one star on shipping time. -
Now there's an intriguing alternate universe: Catfish Hunter & Reggie & Goose sign with Cleveland, and the Indians win a World Championship or two. Then of course since there's no revenue to support the spending, Steinbrenner bails out of the business ... and maybe the Yankees are working on a 45 year championship drought. I can dream can't I? Anyway, that's giving Steinbrenner far too much credit.

Perhaps this is the best explanation for her suing David Letterman over his "Martha Raye - Denture wearer, condom user" joke. She really wasn't a condom user.

What Peter Abraham points out doesn't help escape from the fact that this team is heading down - particularly with Kevin Cash and his sub .100 BA still filling in while we wait for V-Mart's thumb to shrink enough that he can get it in his glove. And who wants to lay odds that Adrian Beltre's hamstring strain is bad enough that he will be the next starter added to the disabled list, or else he will feel good enough to play and his hamstring will pop running out a groundball, as it did originally in Toronto on Sunday? Actually I'd like to see Beltre play, maybe he could help the team by running over Crawford and breaking his ribs. Or Swish. Or Crawford and Swish.

Kazmir looks like a guy that the Rays knew was heading downhill and they got rid of him while he had value.

A tiny ray of sunshine in an otherwise dismal stretch.  On the other hand, Girardi deserves a hearty FUCK YOU for picking Konerko over Youkilis, then saying that a couple of home runs and a few RBIs was the basis for his decision. He's supposed to be a bright guy, understand the stats that matter, even the stats that might be a bit convoluted, like Wins Above Replacement which has Konerko at 2.0 and Youkilis over 4. What's ridiculous is that both Konerko and Youkilis deserve to go more than Swisha-bite-me.

He trended toward dog shit before then, too. Or have we forgotten what Pujols did to him?

Have I mentioned lately how much I fucking hate John Lackey? Does John Lackey have a fucking ounce of self-respect or is he just another fucking worthless piece of shit cashing in on free agency so he can start mailing it in? He's now completed the first half of the first of five fucking seasons we're on the hook for, and this is what he's fucking accomplished: The worst statistics of his entire career. WHIP: 1.542 and that doesn't factor in FOURTEEN baserunners in 4 2/3 innings today. His highest previous WHIP was 1.417 in his first full season in the bigs, and he had gone 4 seasons with a WHIP less than 1.26 before 2010. K/9: Down more than 1.5 from last year, and the worst of his career including his age 23 season. BB/9: 3.3, the highest of his career and doesn't factor in his SIX walks today. H/9 innings: TEN POINT SIX!!!! This is what you fucking get out of this sack of shit for 83.5 million dollars. If he had a fucking set of balls instead of delicate lady bits he'd fucking stand in front of the microphone and fucking say that he sucks, that he's embarrassed, and that he doesn't deserve to be in the fucking uniform. For once I'd like to see the famous Boston media actually ask a question like "Are you embarrassed about your performance in Boston after signing such a big contract?" Imagine if the fucking Yankees had gotten this performance out of Burnett. He'd be gone already.

In the meantime, I am going to see to it that the only images in this thread honor Charlie "Yardbird" Parker, the only 'Bird' who matters. 125,000 hits according to Google. I got plenty more.

Haven't you noticed before? I said in May that the Red Sox season was fucked, and I was right!
-
Agreed. To Texas would be great as they are a strong team already and Lee would be a great equalizer against a team that has beaten them consistently. Twins would be good too but having a great lefty never helped them against the MFY in the past.

What a fucking crock of shit. Swisher OPS+: 149 Youkilis OPS+: 157 Destroys him in OBP AND SLG and has more RBI, Runs and HRs.

What part of her eyes can't you see? And why are you bitching when you don't even provide actual images of these exciting and unique album covers? You're a nervy newbie. Way to fit in.

is everybody havin a good Mobley day?
Dan Gould replied to chewy-chew-chew-bean-benitez's topic in Artists
Ironic that yesterday I decided I wanted to hear some Hank and grabbed a bunch of post-Soul Station discs to put by the PC for listening today. Guess somewhere deep inside there was a reason I was doing this. And with that, High Voltage hits. -
I keep hearing shit about "they'll be fine ... by August 10 they'll have their team back". What a fucking pile of shit that is. Any day now they will announce that V-Mart will NOT be ready right out of the chute for the second half. How do I know this? He can't fucking put his goddamn broken thumb in his glove yet! Which means that until that changes, their regular catcher is a guy hitting under .100 and on top of that looked as lost catching Wakefield as Varitek does. You saw Youkilis and can see he's headed for the DL. "Ankle spasm" turns into "can't field the position and I have to take my cleats off every half inning in the dugout." Can you say "disabled list"? It is fucking over.
