This is foolish. Bookies take bets. They aren't the old Money Store(tm) that Phil Rizzuto used to endorse. They don't finance illicit activity. They take bets.

DraftKings and other businesses don't extend credit of 4.5 million. Which brings up another question, direct to the heart of who was really betting: $85,000 yearly income from the Dodgers. Why does any bookie allow such a debt to accumulate, unless it was really entered into by the player not the 'buddy'?

Thanks for that GoM because in all honesty, the sum total of my reading on this was what was detailed in this thread. What I cannot fathom and makes no sense is that an interpreter/buddy who is on the payroll of the Dodgers supposedly had the ability to access Ohtani's financial accounts and send money to his bookie without authorization. Also that Ohtani and his people had absolutely zero controls in place to notice 4.5 million dollars out of his account(s) without any recognition or concern.

Man I do love that KD record. I found it as a used Japanese issue CD so I don't know if the sound is extra special good compared to OJC but great tunes. For the thread topic I can only say that Flanagan shows why he was in demand. He fits. He swings. He's part of the magic - but most of it comes from McKinley Dorham. What I've never been sold on is the title ... its not trumpet fireworks but is "Quiet" really the best adjective? "Quiet" almost implies Blue Hour or Feelin' the Spirit level of ennui (or so I have heard, I don't buy it myself) but this is hard swing at a medium tempo: Percolatin' Kenny!

There are some fine recordings in there but what is the hook? You can only say 'the label' which probably doesn't get as much respect as it could/should but that's a big box to try to sell.

Maybe if he was convicted of a crime.

I voted for Quiet Kenny cause its a long-term favorite. I'd have to listen again (and thanks for the excuse) to comment on what Flanagan brings to the table. It's just primo KD to me.

@felser Agreed on all of this. MLB has an interest in keeping Ohtani protected and "innocent" but are we sure he's not? And if not, what do they do? Maybe we don't need Judge Landis but Bart Giammati died a while back too, and its not like the Commish is an independent actor anymore.

Where is Judge Landis when you need him? Would be an incredible story if Ohtani is gambling ... and this is his interpreter? What kind of assets does he have to support such a debt? Here I am pretty sure bookies don't let you get to 4.5m - assuming any exist anymore since its all legal.

I thought Snell was ticketed to NY after the Cole injury even if the medical consensus was "no surgery". But at $30 million a year equating to additional $33 million in tax, would the Yankees really go that way? The Red Sox have room and Montgomery is a better bet to perform, IMO, then Golito ever was.

Kevin: It's entirely you. I posted because I have been getting EA videos on FB and YT feeds, and been struck by much of what he says. What struck me most is the dissing of "telling a story" and the implicit contrast with Pres. I think that is a legit question for discussion, however it goes. As for the purpose of what he is selling its very clear that this approach, even if geared for "beginners" (which I do not think is his only market anyway) is his approach. So, play changes, don't tell a story. (BTW I finally put together that you mentioned that you are more or less retired, and you've put your screen name back. So I guess using your name is OK again.)

What I was hoping for discussion on was his aversion to "telling a story" in a solo. Pres liked that. EA ain't Pres. What's the significance to musicians and others? And BTW I am pretty sure I have heard a ton of EA solos where he "gets angry" by the end.
