  1. I'm sure I should look at the motherfucking bright side (going 9-3 in four straight series against division leaders) but Jesus Fucking Christ when you go for the sweep with your "ace" on the mound and end up losing 11-6 it really fucking pisses me off. * This one is for you, Jeff and Matthew. I am sticking with the bright side. We're in first, best record in the league ... ** actually I am motherfucking annoyed because the MFY tattooed Santana while Beckett embarrassed himself, and there's no fucking excuse for shit like that.
  2. What the fuck is your point?
  3. Only the horror that is the New York Mets could fuck that game away like that. Let's just hope the kid can hang on in Philly so that nothing changes in the standings.
  4. Ebert is a fool, for the simple fact that the MTA cooperated to about the greatest extent possible in the making of the film. The control room that rivals Mission Control IS THE REAL ONE! Then compare Ebert's statement With the Times reviewer: No local color, huh? I also find it laughable that it would be claimed that the director never took the subway in his life and it shows - the film was shot in the damn subway, including a shuttered subway stop in Brooklyn, iirc. Maybe Ebert and the Slate reviewer don't know that subway, and New York in general, is a whole lot cleaner than it was in 1974? I have no dog in this hunt and will most assuredly watch the original long before this one (if I ever see it at all - over-acting Travolta is way down on my list of movie house thrills) but I find these criticisms to be ridiculous.
  5. I have a 2000 Honda Civic LX, 93,000 miles now, and never a problem at all. Seeing all those issues you've got leaves me worried about when my luck will run out.
  6. PEDROOOOOOIIIIIIIAAAAAA!!* What an at-bat to keep the inning over - if Sabathia gets the K, I'll bet the Yankees would have held on.
  7. Hadn't heard that this was being released. Looks interesting but I have to say I wish it were on HighNote and that Houston Person was the saxophonist, I'd love to hear him blow on Horace's compositions.
  8. The new one was sold as a remake because in the current environment the studio was more open to spending money that way than on a new film. More marketable. But aside from the set-up - subway car full of people held for ransom - its a totally new film and should stand or fall based on its own merits. I was very young when the original was in theaters but I remember seeing it on TV later and really liking it. Its been on Comcast's free movies lately but I keep missing the chance to revisit it. I'll admit I'm more inclined to see the original again than to give this one a chance. I read that Denzel Washington ate everything in sight and then kept buying smaller and smaller sweaters to "fit" into his role. Jeff, you need to correct the title of the thread, it took me a second to realize what it was after reading your butchering of the spelling - PELHAM 123.
  9. Don't we already have that with the "coherence is overrated" thread?
  10. Dr. Gregory House Lisa Edelstein Downtown Julie Brown
  11. I can see Tom McIntosh and Jimmy Heath being listed, Kenny Dorham to a lesser extent, but can't for the life of me understand how Tadd Dameron or Gigi Gryce could be said to not get the recognition they deserve. What recognition they get (and to me its entirely commensurate with their considerable talent) is entirely predicated on their compositions.
  12. And that Yankee Stadium park factor for home runs is the biggest since 2003. And despite its reputation, Fenway's HR park factor was .85 last year and .987 this year - in other words, favorable to pitchers when it comes to HRs. And WTF happened at Progressive Field in 2001, with a park factor for home runs over 2?
  13. Is anything in baseball, including the woe-begotten Nationals, more of a joke than that ballpark in the Bronx? The two homers I saw were pop-ups, Damon's was such a joke the outfielder had time to get back to the wall, stand there, and about two full seconds later, the ball dropped straight down into the second row. This joke of a park isn't just going to break the Coors Field record, its going to obliterate it. 350 minimum. You might see 400. Its a fucking joke is what it is.
  14. Something encouraging about Ortiz: His line drive rate is quite healthy, around 27%, but his BABIP (batting average on balls in play for you non-stat heads) is way below average. While his strikeout rate is up and walk rate is down, a healthy line drive rate and very low BABIP basically means that he is due for a change in his luck, and with that his overall batting average should start to recover. I'll actually be happy if the only move we make is getting Penny out of there. Ortiz not only could recover but should recover, to an extent, from this horrible start. The other hole is at SS but Lowrie is making a rapid recovery from his wrist surgery. Let him get through his rehab assignment, which could start by the end of the week, and let him play July before you decide if a permanent change is necessary. In the meantime, resist the urge to overpay in prospects, unless its for someone worth overpaying, like Gonzalez or maybe Victor Martinez.
  15. Next time you go to a jazz concert, start whistling during solos, and when the artists or the rest of the audience complain about your behaviour, tell them jazz is not polite music. Exactly what I was thinking.
  16. I thought he was going to build on 2008 - have similar results and pitch deeper into games with better command and economy. I'm sick of him and truly fear that by the end of next season he'll be worthless and we'll be stuck with him for two more years after that.
  17. Well I hope they bring you great joy and pleasure. Not. I don't remember his name but I am pretty sure he got released sometime after that, might have made it to the majors briefly with someone else.
  18. If you watch them at all, they do that a lot. He just left three seconds early. And this fucking game is infuriating me - Matzuzaka can never pitch for this squad again and I'll be much happier/three outs made at second base/the bases loaded and one out and nobody scores all adding up to a fucking lost series to the utterly unimpressive Rangers (I'm trying to be nice here, Al) at home (where the fucking Rangers haven't won in twelve years or something.
  19. Guess if he wasn't picked up on waivers, the Rangers either have to release him, or try to work out a trade. So maybe today's start is a "show-and-trade" start for Padilla. If he does decent, I would not be surprised to see him go by the end of the week. No, he wasn't put on irrevocable waivers - this was a total bullshit move by Texas to send a "message" to the a-hole with full knowledge that no team would take him and his 8 million dollar salary. So the poor Ranger hitters will have to continue to risk being target practice for retaliation pitches whenever he decides he can't get someone out or just doesn't like someone on the other team.
  20. What the hell is going on with Vicente Padilla? There were reports that he had been placed on waivers in the aftermath of his throwing at Teixeira, but then he'd still be listed as today's starter at Fenway. Then I saw that he had cleared waivers - and there were reports about how pleased the Texas clubhouse was to be through with him. Now I see he's today's starter? WTF?
  21. I would say its legit since I've found in many cases CDs in which some tunes will stream in full, some will stream in 30 second previews only and others are not licensed and have no play capability. If they weren't legitimately licensing from rights holders, they'd probably be offering everything. More than you need to know here. The Lucky Thompson Uptown is here.
  22. Ladies and gentlemen, ROGER FEDERER!!!!
  23. You can stream the Uptown release here.
  24. These things are so rare, and the chance he had looked so good, its very disappointing. But easier to take with an 8-0 lead and the comfort of knowing that for the last month, Beckett has looked like Beckett 2007, and for the last two games, Lester has looked as great as anytime in 2008. Two aces back at the top of the rotation, Papi starting to hit a bit, I feel just a bit better than I did a week ago.
  25. Well they gave him some runs, so a mistake can't hurt him now, with the score 4-0. 6 perfect innings, only 61 pitches, with 10 strikeouts. And Papi just homered!!!!
