  1. Yeah, that was obviously his fucking fault. I can't wait til the Supreme Court, by a 6-3 or perhaps 7-2 vote, finds that the Second Amendment does in fact ensure an individual's right to bear arms. Then you'll have a whole 'nother group of people to insanely blame for gun violence.
  2. Fine Chris but rest assured that everyone here knows exactly what you were saying with your "photoshop" comment. He was saying the photo was Photoshopped aka doctored. He was saying the photo was photoshopped aka doctored aka Heston wasn't there aka Heston was an unreformed Republican bigot, like all the rest.
  3. The A's have little to complain about. They were back in their own beds within a day of the Tokyo games, with a nice little homestand. Its the Red Sox who got screwed with the 15000+ mile road trip, getting to their own beds in Boston only yesterday, ten days after the A's.

  5. I don't do the Fantasy thing but it looks to me like you've made some pretty poor choices, if you simply chose your team as opposed to going through a Draft system where you end up taking some players because they are the best of the rest. Specifically, even I wouldn't take Varitek as the top catcher, and Jason Kendall has been a disaster for several years now. Jeff Kent is on the decline, if you couldn't get Utley then what about Pedroia or Cano? Damon and Andruw Jones aren't going to give you much either. Top pitchers are good choices except that Escobar is hurt, iirc, and Willis is likely to be horrible, judging by his last couple of years, and how he looks for the Tigers so far. Wake is Wake, I don't think league average innings are likely to get you to the top of the list.
  6. That's a crock of shit, Chris. You questioned the authenticity of the photograph to cast doubts on Heston's involvement in the Civil Rights movement. 7/4 established that the photo is legit, Porcy noted that Heston's involvement in Civil Rights is being noted in obits. Tell me I'm wrong. Or why don't you explain your purpose in casting doubts on the photos in the first place? Its an incontrovertible fact that Heston worked for Civil Rights in the sixties, if you are aware of that fact, why did you/do you question the authenticity of the photographs?
  7. If you surf around a bit, you can see that the photo is credited Courtesy of National Archives & Records Administration. Here's another taken at the same event: If you surf around a bit, you can see that the photo is credited Courtesy of National Archives & Records Administration. Here's another taken at the same event: Yep, all italian newspapers obits remark that Heston supported civil liberties back then and later turned into a strong rep supporter up to NRA presidency. Where's the apology, Chris? Where is the acknowledgment that you were wrong about Heston's support of the Civil Rights movement?
  8. Well, anemic offense, h rrid defense and a bullpen full of arsonists. Is there a more deserving last place team in the majors? I mean, other than the Giants. As for MDC, he certainly looked last year like he was ready to step up and be Oki's right handed eighth inning partner. Now it looks like they need to pray that Timlin is that guy for yet another year - and he won't even come off the DL until the Yankee series. I guess all we can hope for is that home cooking and receiving their rings will turn this crap around.
  9. Gulp! I've got that record - time to give it a listen! That's what I was just thinking.
  10. And the Tigers remain winless! I saw a partial score with the Tigers winning and Dontrelle Willis throwing a no-hitter through five but having walked seven men. Then Chicago finally chased him and the bullpen gave up a few more runs. I have to say I think I'd prefer the Tigers to win on Sunday so that they don't come into Fenway still looking for their first win and getting plenty mad about it. We don't need them ruining the ring ceremony/world championship banner raising Opening Day.
  11. Well I say, keep going for the sweep! Probably the weakest pitching matchup tomorrow, with Hammel opposing Wang. Would be nice if it were ace against ace, Kazmir vs Wang. But if he elevates some sinkers ... I definitely like the Shields/Mussina matchup for Monday. Would be very surprised if the Rays don't at least win the series. As for Beckett, interesting news that his back spasms weren't the big problem - it was his right hip, too. I guess we're lucky that he is only missing one start. Unfortunately even if he is strong and effective, he's going to be on a pitch count of probably around 85. So it's not like he can win it single handedly. Hopefully he can get six innings + and Halloday won't have it. Going 4-3 on a 19000 mile, three country road trip would be pretty good.
  12. Nope - she hasn't got any masculine features. Not a one.
  13. Well, so far it looks like I was right about the Rays chances against Pettitte, 6-1 in the eighth, which is great to see since Buchholz was betrayed by his defense and then the dregs of the bullpen blew the game completely up, 10-2 at the end of six. So all that stands between us and a sweep in Toronto is Beckett. I guess that's why they call him a "stopper" but it won't exactly be easy with Doc Holloday taking the mound for Toronto. Just saw the news out of New York - I noticed that Betamit pinch hit for Giambi in a still winnable game - turns out Giambi came out with a groin injury. I imagine that doesn't exactly surprise anyone - the problem being that Duncan, who was playing 1B today anyway, starts serving his well-deserved two game suspension on Sunday. That will leave Betamit as the main 1B. I guess Posada could play 1B in a pinch. But no surprise in Giambi getting hurt, the question is how long he'll be out.
  14. This woman deserves to lose another career and seems every bit as arrogant and unrepentant as Bonds or Clemens have ever been. To continue to insist that she never used steroids - are we to believe that her body adopted male characteristics on its own - and she didn't consult a doctor about a body gone haywire and instead just tried to cover it up by shaving her "full beard" every day? I hope she goes to prison for as long as the law allows.
  15. First I'd say "your lips to God's ears". Then I'd say that's pretty wishful thinking when you consider that Yankee fans can't imagine falling to third place, let alone fourth. I'd say there's a possibility if everything goes right for the Rays (and Jays) and everything goes wrong for the Yanks (namely, Pettitte gets hurt; Hughes is inconsistent and Kennedy gets pounded (that's the possibility with the most odds); Joba is forced into the rotation, with the result that there is no reliable bridge to Mariano and Joba discovers that its not so easy to maintain your velocity and get through an AL lineup three times; and finally, all the old guys calcify simultaneously - Damon, Giambi, Matsui, Abreu. Its a real tall order and that's not even considering how the Rays and Jays would have to turn it around to hold up their end of the bargain. My guess though is that the Yankees ultimately pound a lot of mediocre teams into submission but their starters do not do enough of a job. 89-91 wins, second or third place, no playoffs.
  16. Yeah, well I thought that the umpire saw the ridiculous calls that Hughes was getting the night before and reminded himself that these are rookies. They're not entitled to close calls yet. And it really wasn't Kennedy getting squeezed anyway - the ump was consistent in his strike zone for both teams, from what I saw. And most importantly, after the unknown youngsters kept it close, Hawkins and Farnsworth combined to blow it open in the eighth inning. 13-4 Rays, which takes away some of the sting of tonight's debacle in Toronto. Agreed on the strike zone. He was consistent. Huge 8th inning. I'm liking this Rays lineup so far. Hinske and Floyd look like great additions. And what a bomb by Pena in the 8th! ... Nice start to a four-game series. Just keep it up and beat those Yankees! I think Pettitte should be ripe for the picking tomorrow, but the question is always whether or not the Rays pitching can get the job done. With Mussina against Shields on Monday night, I think anything less than a split would be disappointing for you and me both. But as far as Hinske and Floyd go - Floyd is guaranteed to hurt himself at some point, and Hinske has fallen about as far a RoY winner can. I just wouldn't expect him to be much more than an average hitter/fielder, most likely in need of a platoon partner. Then again he shouldn't even be playing third base but the owners are too cheap and stupid to let Longoria start in the majors where he belongs. Better to keep his service clock from starting too soon. I'd be pissed if I were a Rays fan.

  18. If I had taken a moment to think about it, I'd have come up with the two that Jack mentions. There's a strong performance on one of the Dameronia albums, too, iirc.
  19. Too many to count, actually. An All-Time favorite, without a doubt.
  20. The thought of Colon being healthy and throwing mid-90s heat as the fifth starter makes me positively giddy. He really could be the steal of the year. Someone mentioned(Forget who somebody on TV I think) that some players like Colon have outs in their Minor league contracts if they are not called up by a certain date. Have you heard anything like that with him??? May 1 is his opt-out date. My guess is that they'd like to see Colon start a couple of more games, get his pitch count to 90 and beyond, before making a decision. I'd love to see Buchholz come out and dominate but I am not particularly confident of that based on his decidedly mixed results during spring training. If Colon shows that he is back and healthy, I really like the idea of him in the rotation ahead of Buchholz. Let Clay get his stuff together at Pawtucket rather than asking two very young guys to perform in the bigs this year. Still leaves us with Clay, Masterson and potentially Big Schill in the wings to step in if someone goes down with an injury. About the only problem with Colon is that he has a mixed record against the Yanks and a downright scary history against A-Rod (I think A-Rods OPS is 1.1 or something against the big guy). But so what? There are 14 other teams to beat in the league, let them try to juggle the rotation if they really think that the Yanks will have his number.
  21. OK, I may be leaping to conclusions here but Bartolo Colon's campaign for Comeback Player of the year got off to a very nice, impressive start last night at Pawtucket: The thought of Colon being healthy and throwing mid-90s heat as the fifth starter makes me positively giddy. He really could be the steal of the year.
  22. Sure....but how? Go to the first post in the thread. Click "edit". That will bring up both the post itself and the thread title/subtitle. Change accordingly and click "complete edit" or whichever the choice is. Done and done. Thanks, Dan. No, the Department of Redundancy Department thanks you.
  23. And Cabrera missed the game with a quad "strain" and Sheffield could be on the shelf for a while with a torn tendon in his finger. If that's the case, they better hope that the Indians don't pull too far out in front. And how's Hampton's comeback going, Conrad? I hate to laugh at your pain and I've never thought of Hampton as the original "American Idle" Carl Pavano, but I admit I laughed when I heard that he injured a chest muscle while warming up for his first start in three years.
  24. I'll buy that if you can point to a single music retailer, web or brick and mortar, that doesn't guarantee that their new, sealed products are complete and undamaged. I know of no one whatsoever that refuses to replace flawed merchandise.
  25. I completely fail to understand your complaint, for the reasons that you seem to acknowledge already: You didn't buy the CD from Concord. You bought it from CD Universe. Let me give you another example: You go to your local grocery store and buy a two liter bottle of Pepsi. You bring it home, open it up, no fizz. The soda is flat. Do you call the local Pepsi distributor and ask them to fix the problem? Or do you go back to the grocery store, tell them what happened, and get a replacement bottle from them? You buy a loaf of bread - its stale. Do you take it back, or do you call the Wonder company and ask them to take care of it. Bottom line: CD Universe sold it to you - they stand behind the sale, they are fixing the problem. Why you would possibly expect Concord to fix it is completely beyond me.
