B-) You know, I thought that the liners made a reference to the song as if it were something new. Who knew it would become such a popular standard?
-
Then I guess you've got some extras. Totalling up the track times from the three sets listed on the site Medjuck posted, its about 75 minutes of music.

Ray, There are some people who want to do torrents. There are also some who want to do MP3s. Personally, I don't like the idea of leaving the PC/connection open for so long. The primers I've seen for torrent downloads don't seem nearly as simple as people make them out to be. Personally, I have no problem with pouncing on an offering, getting it in a week, making my copy and reoffering and mailing. Just not a big deal to me, so the appeal of torrents isn't very much. Anyway, I'm not much involved with the group lately. Too much free improv/AG/Brotzman stuff being offered. I don't know why there aren't more straightahead concerts being vined.

Really? when I worked at a light adult contemporary station and spun Earl Klugh instrumentals, I always wanted to backannounce him as "Earl Klugh-less".
-
I'm probably wrong, but something tells me its the Lee Morgan date that is on the Mosaic. Sorry its not much help and I'm probably wrong anyway. But someone will be along with the answer ....

Yes, Pete, its on its way from Andrea in Italy. So, are you saying that all of the music from those three shows are on the CD?

But that "deeply ingrained relationship" is NOT between a TWELVE YEAR OLD and an adult. -
Thanks for digging that up.

How High the Moon/Ornithology same as above, 28 July, 1952 7. Cool Blues 8. Dixie/Yankee Doodle into Little Willie Leaps add Chet Baker (tp) Disc Two 1. Bird Blindfold Test 2. Interview 3. Interview with Leonard Feather 4. Max Roach on Bird 5. Lennie Tristano interview First three are Bird interviews, and the Tristano is supposed to have extensive commentary about Bird. I know. I hit the Bird jackpot. B-)

I take it its a private recording source? Or do you have some obscure LP?
-
I have on its way to me what seems an extraordinarily rare bit of Bird-ology. The info I have is this: Charlie Parker at Zorthian's Ranch Charlie Parker, Frank Morgan (as); Don Wilkerson (ts); Amos Trice (p); Dave Byrant (b); Lawrence Marable (d) Altadena, CA, 8 July, 1952 Is anyone aware if this has ever been issued before, legitimately or not? Would it be a radio broadcast or a private recording? I checked the first Parker Discography site brought up by Google and could find no info. But I gotta say, the thought of Bird and Morgan with Don Wilkerson has got me salivating!

Interesting: It looks like the Tina Brooks Mosaic set has settled into the $60 range, which makes my selling it for $100 a pretty good deal. On the other hand, if you've got a nice copy of True Blue, it looks like that sucker goes for $2000+ every time. -
In honor of Matt Groenig's Birthday, D'OH!!! But in my defense, isn't there a similarity there? Or maybe I'm just thinking of the dude who played him in the SNL spoofs ....
-
Isn't that the same mug as the guy who hosted "Bill Kirschner's Rock Concert"? I actually remember it more for the SNL parody than I do for the show, but isn't it the same dude?

I agree that at this point everyone should back off because they're adults, but I also have to say, sorry Alexander, but Finch is supposed to be 17 or 18, which is light years from being 12, which is what the kid was when Mary Kay had her way with him. Let alone the difference in authority of a teacher versus a horny 40 year old mother of a classmate. -
New Homeowner Tax Advice Wanted

Thanks, for clarifying that, Mark! -
I have to say that I fall in with the group who are questioning Hank Jones' story. The dates just don't make sense. I'd be curious about the context of the conversation with Allen. Were you talking to Hank about Monroe? About her singing Happy Birthday to JFK? About Arthur Miller? What triggered Hank's memory? Its certainly possible Miller hit Monroe, but it doesn't seem logical that it happened after the birthday performance. As far as Miller's career goes, count me as one who regards Death of a Salesman as a masterwork. The CBS broadcast of the play with Hoffman as Willy and Malkovitch as the son was stunning.

Arthur Miller was crapped on? Guess I should go take a look at that thread.

New Homeowner Tax Advice Wanted

Well I'm confused now because at least two other people were telling us that this kind of expense is deductible. I thought the law distinguishes between structural things like a new roof and remodelling a room. -
New Homeowner Tax Advice Wanted
Dan Gould replied to Dan Gould's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
There's no income tax in Florida, so it does seem to me a relatively simple return. I understand we deduct closing costs and property tax as well as mortgage interest . . . we put about $6000 into the new roof and the new A/C unit. As Capital Improvements, aren't they also deductible? I think we will use the program we've been using (we've always filed electronically anyway) and see how it does. I would think that when we enter the amount for mortgage interest, its going to kick us into a whole nother section and start asking about when we brought the house, closing costs, etc. and put them all in their right place and work out fine. Now, when my wife's mortgage broker career takes off and she starts looking at quarterly filings, we'll definitely be in need of a decent accountant. But for now, I'm hoping we can get this done ourselves. -
The question about refinancing closing costs reminds me: Does anyone have advice for me and my wife, first time homeowners in the 2004 tax year? Is it really best to find an accountant or use H&R Block? My wife was ready to go to Block but she did some investigating online and found many horror stories of hidden charges and questionable business practices and no longer has any interest in using them. We've previously used a tax filing program (can't recall the name at the moment) that's been pretty straightforward. My thought is that its almost certainly just as effective for homeowners. Right now, my advice to her is to go ahead and download the program, throw the numbers in and see what it kicks out. But any tax advice for new homeowners is greatly appreciated!

Did they have as much fun as you did? I ask because I don't remember any enforced Valentine's activities by the time I reached the age where kids are dating. No enforced card giving, no candies, and certainly no surrepticious matchmaking in the Honors Class (or so I heard). Happy Valentine's Day, y'all!

Does "opening doors for remarkable players" include Wynton? -
I'm guessing then that this is one of the Newman RCA recordings that our Spanish friends have "reissued"?
