  1. Thanks for the report, Marty.
  2. Yeah, this seems like an odd category: the music has to be played and recorded by lots of people to become a standard in the first place, doesn't it? "I Won't Dance" was recorded on one of the Ella & Louis collaborations, btw. "I Should Care" is a personal favorite, I don't think its been over-recorded, though. Mobley's version is definitive, for me.
  3. I vote for Percy France's version of Stanley T.'s "Sugar" from the Black & Blue album, Oliver Jackson Presents Le Quartet.
  4. UA, There's a big difference between ongoing differences of opinion/personality conflicts and letting people know about transactions that are not satisfactory. How would a "Feedback" Forum work? As Brad says, it is not the function of this board. These kinds of threads are the only way to find out about people who have questionable selling/trading practices. I think the complainants here have every right to bring it to the attention of the board in general if they have gotten no response to PMs or emails. Funny how pryan appears to defend himself so quickly when he apparently can't be bothered to respond to multiple PMs. That being said, I have no idea where the fault lies here, but if it is true that he has agreed to transactions, not lived up to his end, and does not respond to private messages, then by all means, that should be brought to the attention of the board.
  5. Refresh my memory (maybe I'm completely offbase here) but weren't you involved, as complainant or complainee, in one of these threads in the not-too distant past?
  6. What's irked me about him is just the whole marketing army that Concord put behind him. Being that young-I mean, you can emulate Sinatra, but is there any chance at all that you can have lived enough to "occupy" the songs the way Sinatra did? I would be curious to hear about his piano playing though.
  7. I have to agree with Jim Dye that people will follow you since they come to shake their booty to the band. I hope the rest of the group is willing to take a stand with you. Even if there are other bands who'd take the gig, do they bring in the audience? I'd also call ASCAP and BMI to inquire about the legality of what he's doing as far as the agreement he's signed with them. I would doubt that anyone has the right to explicitly pass that cost onto the bands, so I'd inquire with them as to what their position is.
  8. Great story!
  9. 'fraid not, as this listening is only done at work. Speaking of which, an announcement about that may be forthcoming ...
  10. I do, but on LP, so since I haven't transferred it to CDR, it didn't get a listening (or a listing) this time around.
  11. I find this creation a million times more interesting and impressive than what's happened in Central Park.

  13. A big thanks to Chuck for mentioning the Oliver Jackson Presents Le Quartet (Black & Blue) album. I hunted it down on Google and it was well worth it. Lots of great sounding Percy on this. My only complaint is that "C.C. Rider" was split into two tracks for radio airplay and there's a fade out and fade up in the middle of Cliff Smalls' piano solo. Otherwise, If you see it, go for it!
  14. I thought the term "hair band" was pretty well known, but here's my definition: Any one of the seemingly hundreds of bands where the band spent more on hair spray and/or makeup than your average Sorority.
  15. They are all previously unreleased Montmartre shows from the summer of 1965. The only drawback is that the radio airshots seem to have strict time limitations, and I think every one of these discs has a sudden fade in the middle of the last song. Otherwise, prime Dexter with Kenny Drew, NHOP, Alex Riel, and on the last release, Ladybird, Donald Byrd.
  16. I was wondering how Allison was making the trip. Good to hear that something is making a difference in the symptoms!
  17. Might as well 'fess up that this poll was inspired by my download of Gordon Lightfoot's "Sundown".
  18. I gotta go with the hair bands but I have this strange feeling I'm going to be outvoted.
  19. I completely disagree. Goodbye Earl is the best song they've recorded and the only Chicks tune I can stomach. Earl is not a "bad" husband, he's violently abusive! In the last verse before they decide to kill him, he "walked right through that restraining order and put her in intensive care". The full lyrics: Mary Anne and Wanda were the best of friends All through their high school days Both members of the 4H Club Both active in the FFA After graduation Mary Anne went out lookin' for a brand new world Wanda looked all around this town and all she found was Earl Well it wasn't two weeks after she got married that Wanda started getting abused She put on dark glasses and long sleeved blouses And make-up to cover a bruise Well she finally got the nerve to file for divorce She let the law take it from there But Earl walked right through that restraining order And put her in intensive care Right away Mary Anne flew in from Atlanta On a red eye midnight flight She held Wanda's hand as they worked out a plan And it didn't take 'em long to decide That Earl had to die Goodbye Earl Those black-eyed peas They tasted all right to me Earl You're feelin' weak Why don't you lay down and sleep Earl Ain't it dark Wrapped up in that tarp Earl? The cops came by to bring Earl in They searched the house high and low Then they tipped their hats and said, "thank you ladies if you hear from him let us know" Well the weeks went by and Spring turned to Summer And Summer faded into Fall And it turns out he was a missing person who nobody missed at all So the girls bought some land and a roadside stand out on Highway 109 They sell Tennessee ham and strawberry jam and they don't lose any sleep at night 'cause Earl had to die Goodbye Earl We need a break Let's go out to the lake Earl We'll pack a lunch And stuff you in the trunk Earl Well is that all right Good Let's go for a ride Earl The chicks somehow managed to take a serious, downer subject and make a light-hearted, downright fun song out of it.
  20. Here´s the JazzVines Yahoo group, Brad. Quite a few interesting shows now circulating... though Dan is right, and there´s a lot of free impro/avant-garde/whatever at this moment... http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/JazzVines/ Thanks EKE BBB and Dan, I sort of get it now. Ok, is this vine still open. If so, I'll check it out. If not, probably not. Brad, The way this group operates is this: Someone offers a concert. Someone responds with their mailing address and a promise to re-vine (re-offer to the group) When the CDR arrives, you burn yourself a copy (the original is considered the master, and flawless - if you send out a copy, you might introduce problems in the "master") Then you offer the show back to the group, someone new responds, lather, rinse, repeat. So, basically, its not that this vine is open or closed ... its "active" but that doesn't mean that you sign up to get a chance at it. You just have to join the group, monitor the messages sent to the list, and when you see a show you are interested in, get your email to that person ASAP. If you miss it that time (some people solicit multiple requests and then "randomly pick" the next recipient) just keep watching and waiting.
  21. I didn't have the opportunity to administer this test to the woman I married, but a year or so afterwards, Elvin was here in south Florida, we went, and she definitely passed the test then. But then again, I married her, so I probably already knew that deep down.
  22. I agree it sounds like a scam for sure, but there's one thing I don't get. You get a money order, right? You cash the money order and send him the overage. If the money order is bad, how does it get back to you? You've cashed it. You walk away with $2100, with which a portion goes into a new money order. If the original money order is fake, how does it come back to you that it was fake? it sounds more to me like money laundering to me.

I think you've got the basis of a Les Select. There could also be the sessions with Groove Holmes, which were obviously different from his usual piano trio outings. Good news, even though I have what he's talking about. Also good to know that McCann is not on Michael's shit list.
  24. congradulations, but that's the amount that everybody has. Not according to the track times in the discography that Medjuck posted above. Those tracks total 75 minutes, give or take, which makes sense considering that it was a single CD of music that Pete B. put together from his friend's gift.
