  1. CD Universe shows the Gale's coming out on a label called Water. I'ver never heard of it I almost bought those on lp a few times back when but other releases always seemed to jump to the front of the line.
  2. I have only recently become aware of this British reissue label. They have some very interesting looking box sets and prices that seem almost impossibly low. Has anyone purchased any of their releases? How do they compare to what Mosaic puts out. Thanks for any replies.
  3. Caught Moran, Osby, and Harriss at the Jazz Standard a while back. I went home with a big smile on my face. Had only heard Osby before at that time. How wonderful to find more wonderful young players. Oh yeah, the rhythm section was great too. Next week Ray Drummond, Billy Drummond, Rene Rosnes, Gary Bartz(my man), and Steve Wilson. Gotta make that gig.
  4. Somewhere in this apartment is my copy of Song Cycle. It was ahead of its time when it came out and evidently still is. Van Dyke released several other albums on Warners in the following years. He had a show produced on Broadway(not a success) and is an all around genius. If you own Song Cycle give it repeated listenings and try to imagine a time when pop music was wide open and artists were free to make music, not just money.
  5. Bought the original lp release of this date when it was first released so many years ago. Is the additional stuff on the cd of equal quality? This was one hell of an engagement. Lee's loss still hurts today. I never cared for the 2lp studio date that followed this-the one with the awful Bobbie Humphery on flute. The scene was collapsing around players like Lee and obviously he was looking for something viable. I always heard that Donald Byrd's first date with Larry Mizell was supposed to be for Lee but his murder put an end to that. But the Lighthouse date and almost everything he cut before that--aces!!
  6. Pentangle and ISB. Geez I can hardly believe it. I loved this stuff back when it was coming out but haven't listened to it in god only knows how many years. Nice memories of an interesting time. Thanks for the memories B)
  7. I've got the Nilva date on lp purchased when first released. Patton and Moncur are great.
