By the way, has anyone heard anything really inspiring in the last couple of months? Any new names to look out for?

I did enjoy it. I only streamed the first track which is free on Bandcamp. Clearly, it is breathing the spirit of Coltrane quite strongly, but now moving towards 1967 Coltrane, with an edge of Charles Gayle. I truth I like Collier here a little more than Parker, who I blow how and cold on. The Collier I really liked, and which did surprise me, is that I AM record. I strongly recommend that if you haven't heard it yet. Very visceral stuff. Otherwise I've always had my suspicions of him. He certainly looks the part.

Various – Sounds Of The South Dunno whether this belongs here or where.

They're an Austrian group from the early days of European free jazz. Like the Reform Art Ensemble but a bit more chaotic maybe. There is a similar mix of energy music and Zappa/Cherry hippy happening. I enjoyed it. Streamable stuff.

A real favourite of my younger brother's, for the reasons @mjazzg identifies. Sad news.

This one is so overplayed. I liked it when it first came out but it has been spun at so many weddings and school discos that I can't take it seriously any more.

Derek Bailey, Tony Bevan, T.H.F. Drenching, Sonic Pleasure and Alex Ward – Limescale

I don't think I have ever seen these records. Are there any in the series that you recommend particularly?

I recommend it. He's revisiting his own songs. Ellery Eskelin and Ray Anderson on the front line, neither of whom is a draw for me but they are very good here. I love those Hats. A great run.

Gerry Hemingway Quartet – Devils Paradise What a good record this is. It is my first time listening to it.

Alfa Mist – Bring Backs This one is popular in Jazz reddit at the moment. It is essentially background music with a hip hop influence. It is Muzak really, but with a sense of self importance.

This one's a good record. RIP.
