  11. Until now they had just quietly accepted that their lot in life was to suffer. Children do not know any different. I got my own back by playing Charles Gayle at them all through breakfast. That was fine, apparently. Maybe it was just the lack of discernable musical idiom that threw my daughter.
  12. I saw them live a few years back. One of the best performances I've ever seen.
  13. Mickey Katz – The Most Mishige He was just a Don Byron punchline to me. Surprised to find that this is actually good.
  14. Evan Parker and Barry Guy – Incision This morning marks the day that my kids finally snapped. My 3 year old daughter told me that “this music is just talking gobbledegook”.
  15. Günter Christmann / Torsten Müller / LaDonna Smith / Davey Williams – White Earth Streak
  16. Yusef Lateef, Roscoe Mitchell, Adam Rudolph and Douglas R. Ewart – Voice Prints It was never going to live up to the line up. But hey. Now onto this: Naftule Brandwein – King Of The Klezmer Clarinet A much-loved comp that I owned on CD in my younger days. In the wake of Tzadik going streamable I've been listening to a lot of rather tepid modern records in this vein. It's nice to go back to the real thing, Tate.
  17. I really agree with that.
  18. Yes. A nice one. I don't always like Aki Takase but she's very good here. Bennink really sets her off. Available to sample or buy from Bandcamp.
  19. Love this track.
  20. Later Bob James records reliably have at least two really excellent tunes.
  21. I'd never seen these pictures. I'm always fascinated by Frankie Dante. He did not look well.
  22. Aki Takase and Han Bennink Two for Two
  23. Anglo Italian Quartet – Put It Right Mr. Smoothie
  24. Arthur Doyle Electro-Acoustic Ensemble – Patriotic Act
