  1. I will be receiving Gary Burton's Passengers and Jack DeJohnette's Special Edition. I'll wait till Easter morning, and enjoy them then.
  2. The Tigers are receiving flak because their home opener will be on Good Friday between noon and three. It's really hard to believe how out of touch the Commissioner's office could be. http://sports.theglobeandmail.com/servlet/...tsBaseball/home
  3. Thanks for your suggestions and the links, guys! I have sent my contact this list, and she will go down and pick the first two that are in print: Mike Nock - Ondas Dave Holland - Conference of the Birds Jack DeJohnette - Special Edition Chick Corea - Return to Forever Pat Metheny - As Falls Wichita Gary Burton - Passengers Pat Metheny - Bright Size Life Gary Burton - Times Square I'm surprised that nobody mentioned what I think is my favorite ECM, Gary Burton's Real Life Hits.
  4. Well, we're all getting older, but I never would have guessed that that was Gary Burton. I met him once in 1985, and I guess that that is so many years ago that I shouldn't expect people to look the same.
  5. Lala: John Coltrane - Live Trane - The European Tours, disc 4
  6. I have the opportunity to get two cd's from ECM's entire catalogue of 1200 titles. I know that many, perhaps most, of you are more familiar with the ECM catalogue than I am, and I would appreciate your suggestions. So let's narrow it down. I would prefer: a) songs that Jon Hendricks could write lyrics to if he wanted to. b) a band with a full complement of musicians, including bass and drums. I have enough Keith Jarrett to last me the next three or four years. Twenty years ago I got a couple of Gary Burton's that I like a great deal. Maybe a Chick Corea. Maybe a Pat Metheny. Maybe Carla Bley. Any ideas?
  7. Lala: Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder I have had the title track for forty years on countless compilations. I'm sick of it. But this is the first time I have heard the album, and I enjoy it. I had no idea it sounds so much like Horace Silver.
  8. I note that it has been one year since the Raleigh News & Observer published an article about shaving, which caused me at that time to resurrect this thread. Since then, I have learned how to shave with a safety razor and a brush with good creams and soaps. I have learned it all from this forum: http://www.shavemyface.com/forum/ And I have purchased nearly all of my products from here: http://www.razorandbrush.com/indexbarbieria.html I have found that the cost of traditional wetshaving is less than that of using the Gillette Fusion cartridges and gel if you only buy what you need. However, most guys enjoy the hobby so much they buy more than what they need to check out the various brands of items. I started at the bottom, and am slowly working my way up the ladder. So far, my favorite blades come from Russia, India and Egypt; and my favorite soaps come from Italy. Anyway, a year ago I (like many American men) found shaving to be a chore. I now find it to be a very enjoyable inexpensive luxury.
  9. Lala: Brownie: The Complete EmArcy Recordings of Clifford Brown, disc 1
  10. Like the Seattle P-I, the Ann Arbor News will discontinue its hardcopy, and go 100% online. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CN...;show_article=1
  11. Lala: John Coltrane - Live Trane - The European Tours, disc 3
  12. Chris, you avatar looks like he knows the answer! That's a great avatar, by the way.
  13. Lala: Barney Kessel, Ray Brown and Shelly Manne - The Poll Winners Ride Again!
  14. Kevin Glenn has signed with the Ticats. Right now it looks like he will start the season backing up Quinton Porter, but I'm not sure how long they will go before giving him a chance to play. The year before last I realized that although he has been in the league a long time (since 2001), he is still young (only 29). I think that his best years are ahead of him, kind of like Anthony Calvillo at that age. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Ham...8825421-cp.html ***** The Bombers are considering Casey Printers! http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Win...844341-sun.html
  15. Lala: Barney Kessel, Ray Brown and Shelly Manne - The Pollwinners Recommended. ***** The other day I listened to one on Lala that I highly recommend: Bud Shank - Live at the Haig
  16. Thanks for that youtube link, Dave. I had the Sunrays' album (the one and only album as far as I know). They had a second song that was played on New Orleans radio called Andrea. I've got no idea how big it was nationally. Here's the link. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRKW04JVPxw...feature=related I remember that the liner notes of the album made a big deal about Murray Wilson, as if kids were going to buy the album because Brian Wilson's dad produced it and managed the group.
  17. Lala: Sonny Rollins - The Complete Blue Note Recordings, disc 4
  18. Lala: John Coltrane - Live Trane - The European Tours, disc 2
  19. Lala: John Coltrane - Live Trane - The European Tours, disc 1
  20. My sister was the artist in the family, and she had a Jon Gnagy set. What I remember about his TV show was that he would take it nice and slow and easy for the whole show, and everything was cool. And then with the picture halfway done and fifteen seconds to go, he would finish it up way too fast for me to keep up with.
  21. Thanks Bev! Lala: Sonny Rollins - The Complete Blue Note Recordings, disc 3
  22. I'm sorry for her family, of course. I am not familiar with her work, so I can't comment on the profession's loss. This has been on digg for about 48 hours, since it was announced that she was brain dead. Am I the only one who feels that they should have pulled the plug then, rather than shipping to New York her body hooked to the machine? I feel that this is akin to desecration of a corpse.
