  5. Not looking too good for Floyd..... http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cycling/news/story?id=2535787 Monday, July 31, 2006 Report: Synthetic testosterone found in Landis sample Associated Press NEW YORK -- Lab tests show that some of the testosterone in Floyd Landis' urine sample taken at the Tour de France was synthetic and not naturally produced by his body as he had claimed, according to a newspaper report. The French antidoping lab testing the American cyclist's samples detected that some of the hormone came from an external source, The New York Times reported on its Web site Monday night, citing a person at the International Cycling Union with knowledge of the result. The result undermines the defense that Landis has stood behind since the news last week that he tested positive for an elevated ratio of testosterone to epitestosterone following his stirring comeback in Stage 17 of the Tour de France. Landis won that Alpine stage and went on to claim the Tour title.
  6. All true. He plays w/ zero passion. Agree to all. What I find remarkable is how the Phillies ultimately accepted crap and even agreed to be the ones to pay Abreau to waive the no-trade clause. When they started offering Abreu a year ago, they wanted a major league starter. No takers. Then they demand top drawer prospects like Hughes. No deal. Now they accept four guys, the top one (that first round pick shortstop) can't even hit in low A ball right now. Not sure if this really qualifies as a "trade". It's a salary dump move, pure and simple. They just saved something like $20 million on Abreu alone. They would have taken anything to not have to be stuck w/ that albatross of a contract any longer. Abreu will be good but he best days are behind him. Certainly not woth the $16 million he is due next season. Lidle has been lights out lately. I wouldn't be surprised to see Flash Gordon gone by the end of the day.

  9. Not to take anything away from Philly Joe but, they should be honoring Butch Ballard. Probably the only living person to have played w/ Fats Waller, Duke, Basie, and Louis Armstrong. Edit - That should read "played and recorded w/..."
  10. No luck on the fax. I keep getting a "busy/no response" message. I know that he's living in Willow Grove, PA. The only Dickerson listed for WG is Lucille. Could that be his daughter???

  12. Posted on Tue, Jul. 25, 2006 email this print this Breaking: King says Iverson off table in deal By PHIL JASNER Daily News Sports Writer The 76ers trading Allen Iverson? Doesn't sound that way at all. "I fully expect Allen will be suiting up with us next season," Sixers president/general manager Billy King told the Daily News this afternoon. "Allen and I have talked about it, and he wants to be here and is excited to be playing for us." King said he is "still working the phones, talking to people [about prospective deals]." "We're trying to do what's best to make us a better ballclub," he said. "That's not including Allen in our discussions." Iverson has spent his entire 10-season career with the Sixers. He is a four-time NBA scoring champion and was the league’s Most Valuable Player in 2000-01.
  13. I gave the info to Mark back in March. AFAIK, he was unable to get in touch w/ Walt. I just sent an email to the addy linked at the end of the article. It was bounced back as "undeliverable".

  15. Fisherman speared by blue marlin off Bermuda HAMILTON, Bermuda (AP) -- A fisherman was recovering from surgery after he was speared in the chest and knocked into the Atlantic Ocean by a blue marlin during a fishing competition off Bermuda's coast. Ian Card, 32, was in stable condition at King Edward VII Hospital in the British Island territory from a wound that his doctor said could have been fatal. "He was very lucky," said Dr. Christian Wilmsmeier. "It was a very serious injury." Card and his father, Alan, both operators of a charter fishing boat and experienced marlin fishermen, had just hooked the fish Saturday when it suddenly leapt out of the water, impaled Ian Card just below his collar bone and knocked him into the ocean. "The fish all of a sudden changed direction and jumped. The fish made a leap and Ian just happened to be in the way," Alan Card said. The younger fisherman managed to struggle free while his father cut the line and helped his son get back into their boat, the Challenger. They managed to make it back to shore in about 40 minutes for emergency medical treatment. The fishermen estimated the marlin at about 800 pounds (363 kilograms) and about 14 feet (4.3 meters) in length.
  16. I'm one of the few board members that didn't take advantage of the Concord summer blowout sale. My reasoning was that I just have too many discs that I bought and have never opened. I've got stuff that I bought when it was in print just to watch go OOP and now is back in print again. My wife would freak if I added another 30(or more) discs to that pile. I counted 70 cds still in the original shrink wrap. Throw in 3 box sets and 8 DVDs and were talking a few days worth of uninterrupted listening/watching just to get to the bottom of the pile(s). So how big is your pile?? Some of you might want to give a pre/post Concord order count.

  19. I'm pretty sure they will be available to general public. The other two DVD's produced by them - "Marvin Gaye - The Real Years" and "Muddy Waters - Classic Concerts" - are available through Tower, CDUniverse, etc.... I think that quote might be referring to their raw material - stuff not used in DVD's.
