  1. Jeez, you guys always remember!! Thanks, and have a great remainder of 2010!!
  2. Thanks, Aggie. Work brings me to Buffalo, NY on the exact evening of the show on May 4th! I plan on attending if my work/travel plans aren't cancelled.
  3. RIP. I've enjoyed Gene's writing.
  4. Jimmy Smith Plays Pretty Just For You Chet Baker In New York
  5. Happy Birthday, Tony! Love his playing. Tony is looking pretty healthy, too, unlike Ronnie Dio, who reminds me of that puppet character on Tales From The Crypt.
  6. Would anyone happen to have access to the lyrics to "John Coltrane" on Cliff Jordan's Glass Bead Games lp? If so, I'd love to read them. I can't quite figure out what's being sung. Thanks!
  7. Thanks so much to all of you (and from last year, too!). As I slide down 39 toward 40 this year, I'm fortunate to have a lot of great music for the journey---and a good portion of this music comes from your discussions and recs over the past 5+ years (wow, 8+ years if we count the old BNBB)... Tom, we'll have a beer sometime soon. Joe G, yes, I'm still playing. Doing the odd session with friends and writing songs for/with my 18 month old son. Funny how life changes one's musical endeavors!
  8. My 1988 copy reads "Demensions and Extensions" on the spines. Still waiting for A New Conception to be issued, but for me, Dimensions is a more rewarding listen.
  9. Without a doubt! This was my first ever cd purchase back in 1986 or so. Sounds like ass to me. This album has so many textures that got lost in the original transfer to cd. I still play my vinyl copy instead, and I hope they do the remaster some justice!
  10. To my ears, perhaps not inept, but boring. They were a singles band, and there's nothing wrong, and a whole lot right, with that. Thanks to this thread, I've had Creedence songs running through my head for the past couple of days. Nothing wrong with that either, except I'm getting tired of it. For me it's been Earth Wind and Fire!
  11. Suzy Q? . Fogerty's solo in Susie Q is still a CCR high point for me, don't care if the band sounds inept, IMHO.
  12. We looked at some old slides the other night and there are pictures of me when I was a baby and there are records all over the floor. I about had a heart attack! ) The earliest gift I ever remember getting was my own record player. Dad's 45rpm copy of Three Dog Night's "Eli's Comin'" sat nicely along side the Mickey Mouse records.
  13. Yeah! I like that location, too!
  14. I guess there's a bit of sentimentality here. I used to sit at the stereo and listen to my Dad's CCR LPs through the headphones when I was 9 or 10 years old. "I Put a Spell on You" scared the hell out of me, and that made it all the more appealing. Fogerty's extended solos on "Spell", "Effigy" and "Susie Q" transported me to other places. Maybe I ended up loving King Crimson, Yes and Genesis as a teenager because I found those same elements of musical travel, and enjoyed the detached feeling of being taken on a journey to christ knows where---and maybe as a result, Coltrane's LPs weren't so far out of reach a few years later. Thanks, Dad! Almost all of CCR's 20-bit K2 remastered catalog is available for next to nada; I picked up most of it for $3.99 per disc recently. It's been great re-discovering a lot of this music, which, aside from the FM radio staples, I really haven't heard in almost 30 years.
  15. CJ, I can't speak specifically for these JOS titles, but whenever I A-B'd the TOCJ 1500 series against an RVG in the past, the 1500s sounded better to me. The imports seemed a bit warmer , and the stereo separation seemed nicer also. I don't even bother upgrading the TOCJ 1500 titles I have, if they happen to be released stateside as RVGs.
  16. If memory serves, it was about 5 years ago this month when Jim Alfredson decided to host a replacement for the old BNBB, and another alternative to AAJ and the Jazz Corner. I don't find myself posting here very much these days, but I'm sure happy this board is still around. Thanks, Jim.
  17. Similar here, but I'm 38 now and I'm still into Prog Rock and Post Punk. Prog and post-punk still hits me emotionally, so it still has quite a bit of shelf space. I started with Monk and Miles and went from there
  18. Why do I smile when I read this? Then read again and smile again? Thanks, Jim.
  19. Shit. The only dates near me are on nights I can't go! I'm looking forward to the new album. I thought Stoa was great!---still do, actually.
  20. It's grown a lot on me too! Maybe it's time for BleyFest. I'm reaching for Escalator right now!
  21. I enjoy that Metheny title. It's nice to hear Pat play straight ahead every once in a while. I don't need two copies, though.
  22. Ad Infinitum was recorded for Dinner Music, and I think it was on another record, also (maybe not her own). I like this new Lost Chords release. I find Carla's compositions very interesting, and this set of tunes benefits from Fresu's tone. Seemed to me to take a couple of track to catch a little fire, but it's enjoyable enough regardless.
  23. I guess we have to find our own fun in the holiday and choose to make the best of the season---or not. I'm generally a happy go lucky kind of guy and i prefer to enjoy myself more in the quotidianity(not sure that's a real word) of our every day life than having a celebration forced down our throats. I'm sorry you see it that way. Sounds a bit too negative for my tastes, but I'm sure you have reasons for the way you feel. I see a lot of other things forced down my throat, but, as you say, we focus on having time to do the things we enjoy the most.
  24. Christmas Day always seems so "end of the road" to me, but it is very different for me than Labor Day, etc.... I enjoy the Christmas Season, and the build-up of it all. The Day itself is usually an anti-climax. I guess we have to find our own fun in the holiday and choose to make the best of the season---or not. I'm here because wife and baby are still sleeping and I'm waiting for the coffee pot to finish.
  25. Does anyone have (or would know where to find) a list of domestic BN 10" releases on cd? I have a 1991 domestic issue of Wynton Kelly's Piano Interpretations. The Elmo Hope Trio and Qunitet may have been part of that re-issue batch also. Are there any others that came out at that time? Thanks for any assistance!
