  1. yes, the first quote was from me. I guess I kind of got over ambitious, which made me seem like I was a 'know it all' kind of person. Which I am not. So like, I hope you guys can forgive me, for my early posts. I do wish to contribute. Glad to see you out and about in these parts, Geoff! Just beware of the "Stupid Questions" thread.
  2. Oops... yeah. Hence the "other" choice, as I knew I'd overlook a few worthy candidates. I loved HEATHERS. Still, in terms of realism and entertainment, DAZED is a hands-down winner for me.
  3. Thought about this after watching DAZED AND CONFUSED on DVD last night (4th time I've seen it; saw it three times when it was first out in the theater). From the opening, primordial moment of the car circling the high-school parking lot in the morning while Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" plays, to the last shot of the road opening up at sunrise, I think DAZED nails my high-school experience better than any other film I've ever seen. Richard Linklater somehow worked in more nuance and range than most movies in this genre, which can so easily turn cartoonish. I hadn't seen it in 10 years, and I found myself liking it even more than I did the first time around. I'm sure I've left out a number of worthy candidates, hence the "other" choice. (ROCK 'N ROLL HIGH SCHOOL and MY BODYGUARD are a couple that come to mind immediately.)
  4. Do you mean, the hip, sound of today? Exactly. A dried out door hinge. Why do you ask? With a sampler, you could make music with it. You should see all the songs I used my old refrigerator on. Do you prefer electric or acoustic fridge? Is that a Sears fridge? What are you Dionne Warwick??? No, but she is a psycho friend of mine. Where can I find a decent psycho friend at an affordable price? I've got some. You can have them for free. Just take them away from here. Are they still sealed? No, they're only in good condition. Honest seller. Item as described. A pleasure to deal with. Is there any way out of this ever-expanding maze?
  5. Is Wynton not the greatest trumpeter of all time?
  6. Is Paul dead?
  7. Which one of you is Pink?
  8. Should we be surprised that today's top 5 posters have all been posting in this thread?

  11. Can such an impossible pace be maintained?
  12. Is this a record?

  16. What is your favorite color?
  17. Has Jim washed his hands of this thread?
  18. This also looks interesting. I may have to bite on it when I order the box-set.
  19. According to the Marx Brothers website, there's a chance that the five Paramount films could come out this fall: In the meantime, I'm pretty psyched for the MGM/RKO box. It appears that NIGHT AT THE OPERA, A DAY AT THE RACES, and A NIGHT IN CASABLANCA will all be available separately... but if you want all three, you'll pay about as much as you pay for the box anyway.
  20. Is it a waste of time to post in a thread such as this?
  21. Can you believe this thread is still going?
  22. Charlie Parker's solo on "Embraceable You" from JATP 1949. I think Lester Young followed him, which is about as good as you could hope for.
  23. Have bumped the Reptet/Warne Marsh show to May 5 because of our spring fund-drive and will bump this thread up with a link the day before. (I'll probably throw in a track from Quartet Out's WELCOME TO THE PARTY as well.)
  24. This one's sounding very good so far as it nears the end of its first spin. With Ben Allison on bass and Matt Wilson on drums. I've enjoyed Kimbrough's work ever since the Herbie Nichols Project CDs started coming out.
  25. Thanks, LAL. I have several CDs on that list (including the Teddy Wilson JUMPIN' FOR JOY) and will go back to them tonight to find the Thelma Carpenter tracks.
