You've clearly never been to Weston-super-mare! You mean to tell me that the Ramsgate Tanning Parlour on Walliscote Road is no longer in business? They have (more than a few) tanning parlors here in Florida. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. I guess people want to look tanned before they go to the beach?

I thought the PSA was standard blood test stuff. I get the whole she-bang once a year. And I always get a printout of the results for my files. Trying to take ownership of my health as I age a bit ... OK, a lot ... Stay positive. Go see a comedy and laugh. I think that's important. Honest.

OK, just thinking out loud (well, sorta) ... what if Organissimo or some related entity were established to take care of this very problem. It would pay a lump sum for shipments of CDs and/or records in bulk for resale in any way it sees fit (to board members, through amazon, eBay, an independent online reseller, whatever). The money generated would be used to establish a slush fund to take care of board members who are having a temporary rough time financially. Then these board members wouldn't have to sell their CD and record collections. (sort of a self-defeating solution, but ... I'm just spit-ballin' ...) Course, the slush fund could also fund the band, Christmas parties, world tours, whatever ...

This really is no small problem -- passing on or disbursing collections of music in a way that ensures people will enjoy what we've enjoyed. Some folks might say, "As long as I enjoyed it, I don't care." But we do spend a great deal of time involved in music and it is highly personal, more-so than, say, books, I think. Anyways, selling collections piecemeal to board members or on eBay or amazon seems to be the best way to ensure that it will be enjoyed. Giving it away seems much less certain. You don't know what will happen to it then.

Ain't that the truth.

Seriously, this bothers me, too. Why should it concern you though? Be like Lowe, cry for the jewel boxes instead. Well, you and others have obviously spent a great deal of time and effort collecting all this great music. It's good that Organissimo board members are being given an opportunity to acquire this music for generous prices, but I'd much prefer people not have to sell off OOP Mosaics and entire collections of CDs. ... Truthfully, I've almost PM'd you and others a couple of times to place a purchase, but it just doesn't feel right. If you have to do it, I'd rather you sell it on eBay for top dollar. (Unless your motivation is due to space issues, which, considering the whole jewel case controversy, may well be the case, for all I know)

Help! I can't bring myself to unload my old rock records!
papsrus replied to blind-blake's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Seek professional help ... Uh oh ... you're about to make me feel real bad next time I pull out some of those editor-bound volumes ... But on the other hand, browsing through those copies in my lounge chair is waaay more comfortable than having to stick glued in front of a computer screen. Uh-oh ... you're right! ... To my sudden horror and disgust, I realize now that I'm the one who needs professional help! -

Somewhere, someone is muttering darkly to themselves, "Lucky bastard." (and it's probably a lawyer) -

This is really good to know. I had some fairly depressing things going on earlier this year, too. Not a lot of fun. But it's largely passed now, and some really good stuff has been coming my way lately as well. ... The rhythms of life, I guess. (but I can pretend to be depressed I guess).

Yet another glad to be alive post

Glad you're OK. You sound like an aware rider, but motorcycles are way more dangerous than cars, IMO. Not necessarily because of the rider, but because of all the knucklehead automobile drivers out there. In Florida, there is no law requiring helmets (something about freedom and personal choice or some crap like that, although how they square that with the laws requiring seat belts is beyond me). Every time I see some guy weaving through traffic with no helmet on, I think, good luck pal. Hope you have good long-term care insurance. But ... good to hear another Organissimo member has dodged disaster. -
Congrats man. Sounds like a real experience.

Help! I can't bring myself to unload my old rock records!
papsrus replied to blind-blake's topic in The Vinyl Frontier
Well, I do hope the pig is at least back in one piece. I guess, aside from the Stones, few of what I think of as top-tier rock 'n' roll acts continue on today. The Eagles do get back together periodically I think, or at least did somewhat recently. Springsteen is still going strong, of course. But it seems like there's a market for what I think of as second-tier acts from that period. Foreigner, for instance, is touring this summer. I think that train wreck Kiss still puts on the same show they did 30 years ago or so (and probably sells out large halls). I'm sure there's more but I'm too lazy and tired to look. Outlaws maybe? Skynard? ... -

Really? I thought I read a story somewhere recently about how the flying pig got loose at a concert and landed in some woman's yard miles away. -

That's right. Young Zep, Who, Floyd and so on fans. Those darn kids. Never mind that, those bands are still touring! (I've always been curious about what sort of audience shows up to a Journey concert these days .... I would guess it's largely middle-aged yuppie types reliving the night they lost their virginity, or something along those lines.) -
Scary. It's great that you are basically alright. Hope your mom recovers quickly. ... I was in an accident many years ago caused by a truck running a stop sign. It really taught me the lesson of how important defensive driving is.
