  1. I've just remembered an appearance he made many years ago on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He came out and all he did was look straight into the camera and react to the audience with his facial expression. Carson was practically in tears. It was pretty damn funny, as I recall, and he didn't say a word.
  2. ... or the Rays, and no wonder. What a stinker last night. Holy crap. Their worst loss of the season. They've scored a grand total of three runs their last three games. ... phew ... I sure hope they do something to shake things up at the break. ... Watched the Dodgers dry paint against the Marlins for a while last night. Gave up when it seeped into extra innings. (I think I watch those Dodgers games because it makes me feel good about the Rays offense).
  3. I was going to say something halfway meaningful, but the beer girls distracted me .... twice ...
  4. One of the nice things about the DTV MLB package is they offer you a choice of which broadcast team you want for any given game. I've been getting to listen to Vin Scully in LA (who somehow has managed to escape aging altogether), Harry Kalas in Philly, and I've really enjoyed the Mets broadcast team with Ron Darling doing color.
  5. Happy Birthday Guy!
  6. Shit. ... pitching and defense only go so far. We need some damn bats, for crying out loud. ... or ... in other words, "Motherfucking piece of shit ass-wipes couldn't hit a fucking shit-eating beach ball." hem ... feel a little better now, but not much.
  7. It's the "three or four runs per game" part that seems to be a recurring problem. I guess Pettitte pitched a good game last night, but it seemed like the Rays went fishing for a lot of stuff off the plate ... swinging at ball four, etc. ... frustrating. And Kaz can't get past the fifth inning with fewer that 100 pitches anymore. Geez.
  8. Could be worse. ... Could be raining ....
  9. I couldn't be bothered to read the much of the article(s), but ... if someone feels the need to go on 400 first dates (which she claims she doesn't like doing), isn't that sort of a clue that maybe THEY might be the loser? You'd think someone would figure out after ... oh ... 150, 200 dates how to have a good time on one. What are the odds of one poor woman going out with 400 different losers? High maintenance, anyone?
  10. OK, since the topic is dating, the hair is fair game, right? ... I mean really, is that supposed to be some hip urban "look" that I've missed? That's the kind of picture she's going to look at in 10 years and say to herself: "WTF was I thinking!?"
  11. Happy birthday. Enjoy the cake!
  12. Join the fun!
  13. I can't believe I fell asleep. Woke up 10 minutes ago to beach volleyball, which ... ah ... I could think of worse things to wake up to. Is the consensus that something has gone wrong with Federer's game? Or is it more the case that Nadal's game has just gotten better? Nadal destroyed him at the French, and now ended Federer's reign here. And then there was Federer's loss in the Aussie semis. Not exactly a great year for him. I noticed today (and you'd have to be sleeping not to ... heh hem) that as long as Nadal kept Federer on his backhand, he usually had the advantage. As soon as he fed him a forehand though, blamo! (Course, I have no idea what happened in the fourth and fifth sets .... )
  14. You often hear about how people who are facing the certainty of their own demise suddenly begin to experience life in some fuller sense -- as if all their senses are suddenly flung wide open and every commonplace experience becomes extraordinary. ... Now only if we could all realize this in some way. Maybe that's a small part of what this book is about? I found the photographs to be quite revealing; the contrast (obviously) quite stark.
  15. Happy birthday and enjoy!
  16. Only if Nadal wipes out and injures himself ....
  17. Summer day, birthday, what could be better? Have a good one.
  18. Have a great birthday!
  19. September could be outrageous. The Rays play the Sox and Yankees both home and away -- 12 games total.
  20. Rays have a 4-game lead after blanking the error-prone Royals. ... This is getting a little surreal.
  21. Sorry to hear about this. At least thankfully he's all right.
  22. Do you really want to end up in one of those hat threads at Organissimo?
  23. Is it just me, or does Serena come off as a real poor loser? I realize she's not going to be happy after losing, but damn, how about giving sis some credit.
  24. Where's Leo Buscaglia when you need him? ... Well, he's dead, but still.
