  1. YEAH it is! Lee and Larry go pretty far out and even Herbert Morgan gets pretty far out too. Agree with Sangrey too about Eddie Gladden who pushes the music forward quite convincingly!
  2. Would LOVE to see this one along with a reissue of Forms and Sounds WITH the original artwork
  3. A little late-HB DTMX!
  4. This store had it priced at $20 but I thought I was still worth picking up: George Russell-New York, New York-Decca/MCA ...and man, after listening to it, I can't believe how good it is!
  5. Up. Just picked up this date tonight (the Decca/MCA edition, not the Impulse!) and yes, its yet another great album! Just this year in fact, is the first time I heard Russell (Live at the Five Spot) and was absolutely knocked sideways by it! What an incredible album! So just tonight, after one listen, NY, NY has left yet another indelible impression on me. And yeah, what a cast, but it has that same crispness that the Five Spot date has. I'm so glad that I took a chance on these dates and now I positively want to pick up the Riverside dates and so forth. With just these two date for Decca, I have an incredible respect for Russell's art.
  6. $500 does seem a bit excessive
  7. I've seen the Altschul and the Kirks go for triple the list price.
  8. There's a lot of exciting listening with just the BN Hills alone!
  9. HAPPY BDAY RR! Not knowing this, I played Four for Trane, earlier this evening, thinking to myself what a great voice he is on the trombone; he really brought something special to the Impulse! Shepp records he appeared on.
  10. Man, that sounds good!
  11. Cold front blowing through dumping significant amounts of rain, and now its turing to snow. At noon it was 73 degrees, now it below 30!
  12. Enjoying an ice-cold bottle of Warsteiner
  13. Another nice used cd haul at various shops: Mel Lewis Sextet-Mode/VSOP Spring Heel Jack-The Sweetness of the Water-Thirsty Ear Art Pepper Quartet-Modern Art-Aladdin/BN Vol. 2 Albert Ayler-New Grass-Impulse/Verve LPR Arranged/Played/Composed by Jack Montrose w/ Bob Gordon-Atlantic/Koch Jazz The Ira Sullivan Quintet-Nicky's Tune-Delmark
  14. Have never seen this album before There was a copy of it at the Music Exchange's recent liquidation sale of its 1 million albums, at a warehouse in Kansas City. Unfortunately, the vinyl was scratched up beyond any repair. Has it ever seen a cd issue? Looks like it would've been a good candidate for the (I guess now defunct) Columbia/Legacy reissue series.
  15. Have never seen this album before
  16. Reverse of Keith Jarrett's Treasure Island....does the back of the album cover count?
  17. In Cleveland, I'd say either the Bop Stop or Night Town, which are the two best jazz venues in the area.
  18. Paul Quinichette:
  19. Cool! Hope you guys come out to Cleveland some day.
