  1. Thanks Ramée!
  2. That series of threads with Musicboy also merits awards. It's funny how many memories I already have of this place. It's like home now.
  3. Congratulations on the Strat, 7/4! I love when the UPS person brings me one of those big boxes. It's like Christmas! I find that stress contributes to my purchasing also. In the last two years, since my son was born, I have gotten rid of 9 guitars and added 12 new ones to the herd. It's so much fun! I'm sorry it's been rough on you. I couldn't imagine how it must feel to be in NY.
  4. I like it too! It goes with my James T. Cat avatar. Organissimo..... The Vinyl Frontier
  5. That was a great episode!
  6. I grew up collecting Beatles records. I guess I'd love to have copies of the US versions because I listened to those records so often that I got used to the track order. Heck, there's a little part of me that misses the reverb that Capital added. But, I would never say the American versions are better than the British versions. The British versions were what the Beatles intended in the first place. I grew up listening to American and British versions side by side. My wish would be that the deluxe reissues I wrote about would be the British versions plus a series of twofer editions of the American versions (like Capital's Beach Boy twofers). I do have to admit that the American version of Rubber Soul, with the tracks taken from the British Help album, is the only US version that I like better. It gives the album a more folkie feel.
  7. R.I.P. Fred One of the highlights of my childhood was the time I attended a telethon, and the ENTIRE cast of What's Happening was there. I was so HAPPY! I loved that show. I just realized that two of my favorite shows ever both used the tag line: Hey, Hey, Hey. Fat Albert and What's Happening. Man, this is worse than the time that Rerun got caught taping the Doobie Brothers concert for Sweet Lou Dunbar.
  8. I don't know if I'd want RVG to do the Beatles' remastering since he didn't gain his fame from recording rock bands. But speaking of the Beatles catalog, I would love to see the whole catalog reissued, maybe with bonus tracks like Sony Legacy did with the Byrds. Nice booklets with pictues, notes. They could take some bonus tracks from the Anthology series, or even have some versions sans-vocals, etc... They really deserve a top-notch reissue program. I'd even love 2cd Deluxe Editions containing stereo and mono mixes. One thing I'd love to see would be two-fer reissues of the Beatles early albums in their US Capital versions. I still prefer the playlist of the US Rubber Soul to the original British version. It just doesn't seem the same whan the album doesn't start with "I've Just Seen a Face". I curious about that new Let It Be.....Naked cd that's coming out in a few months. I'm not thrilled by the Let It Be....Naked title, it seems kind of goofy. I've got a bootleg of the original Get Back album. It would have been cool if they'd have released a album as they had originally intended in 1969.
  9. Is that picture above of Jimmy Page or Tiny Tim ?!? Have you guys seen the picture of the tiger that mauled Roy? Well, here he is:
  10. As a graphic designer, this really gets me! Thanks!
  11. I'm wondering if he even knows about Larry Young? You should ask him about those Sting records he played on and tell him how much you miss him on the tonight show. I bet that would really make him nuts. (BTW - I'm just kidding, I know it was Branford who did this).
  12. I'd go, Rooster. It might be a hoot. Heck, if it's really boring, you can pull out a boom box and crank up Don't Fear the Reaper. Just don't forget your cowbell.
  13. That would be a great video! I bet those BOC guys really HATE this sketch. I think we should organize a large group to go to a BOC concert and pull the cowbells out at the appropriate time. Eric, I have a copy of the video in Windows Media Format at work. If you want a copy of it, I'll find a way to get it to you tomorrow.
  14. Thanks for the tip, Shrdlu! I want to pick up some more of these titles. I do know that the BMG music club has a few of the LP facsimile titles. I picked up the: Count Basie - King of Swing Alice Coltrane - Universal Consciousness Woody Herman - 1963 Stan Getz - Cool Sounds Stan Kenton - The Formative Years Dizzy Gillespie - Afro Stan Getz - Reflection Mel Torme - Ole I know there are a few others available. I'd just do an advanced search on the BMG website and search under label for Verve. :rsmile: Edit to add: My current member special is: Buy one at regular price, then get unlimited for $1.99/each plus shipping. That's the best deal I've found with BMG, especially if you buy in mass quantity.
  15. Do you think that I'd get in trouble if I went to a Blue Oyster Cult concert and took a cowbell with me? I've got a fever.... and the only prescription is..... MORE COWBELL!!!!
  16. Oops on my part! I feel like one of those old Bunny Bunny cartoons when a picture of a sucker appears over someone who's been gullible. Heck, I always wanted to write an autobiography someday and call it "Gullible's Travels"
  17. Stunning, but you get any closer to Clarence and you'll be dust. Good point! I guess I don't want to be that close. It sounds like you have G.A.S. (gear acquisition syndrome). I find I get it really bad if I hang out on the guitar bulletin boards. My poor wife doesn't understand my constant desire to add another guitar to the family. I agree with you about the finishes on those G&L's. They're really nice. I've been dreaming about a tobacco sunburst for a while. Your post made me think of something. Since you're into putting replacement necks on your guitars. How about looking into a Tribute model. I know they're not as nice as a regular G&L, but they're pretty close. They use the American made G&L pickups. I've heard that G&L will be releasing a semi-hollow Tribute ASAT soon. One route that I've done well with is to pick up blem models from www.musiciansfriend.com - I was able to get a double bound '62 US Telecaster reissue for $699 and a '69 thinline reissue for $399. They had minor dings, but the price was right. I just go to their website and do a search for "Fender blem" - the deals aren't always there, but if you check daily over a few months, you might get lucky. :rsmile:
  18. LOL It sounds like you're having a nice birthday!
  19. This is really heartbreaking! You guys turned me on to his music a few months back and I really was blown away by it. It's such a tragedy that we live in a world that destroys those with the biggest hearts. I'm six months older and I have fought off depression and many of the same demons that Smith did. I feel so sad for him. He must have been really hurting to have had to end it this way.
  20. Wasn't the Duke Ellington Reprise set a 10,000 copy edition?
  21. Jim, another great thread! I'm having a hard time coming up with good breakfast ideas, but lunch is easy. Heck, Lou Donaldson could make a great lunch soundtrack. Maybe start with Hot Dog and move on to Grits and Gravy. Too bad he didn't record for Blue Note, but Johnny Hodges would go very nicely with a bowl of Trix, since he was the Rabbit. Actually, LD's Nice 'N Greasy would go nice with a McGriddle. Mmmmm, Nice 'N Greasy!
  22. H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y ! ! ! ! I hope you have a great b-day!
  23. Lon, I figure you've forgotten more about jazz than I'll ever know. I sure wish I had picked up the Cherry Mosaic. I think I only missed it by a couple of weeks. I still wish I would have sent my OBI strips in from those first 10 and got the watch.
  24. I've got a hipshot on my ASAT Classic. I really wish I had a Parsons-White bender instead. Maybe I'd get closer to Clarence White myself.
