  1. My best wishes go out to you, James. It must really scary down there right now.
  2. Thanks Chris! The problem is that bird just pecks and bites when you try to get those cds of the legs. At least it makes the AOL tin can look like an act of genius.
  3. I just hope they don't do any special packaging for the album THE KID AND THE BRUTE. I don't want to walk out of the record store with a goat that reaks of cologne.
  4. There sure are a lot of Kings out there. You don't see a lot of people going around with the names like Peasant.
  5. JSngry, thank you... I was just thinking the other day about what might have happened if Dr. King was still around. It might have been a very different country.
  6. I like the cheese wheel box. My favorite funky themed box was the Hot Tuna - In a Can box set. --------------------------------------------- I'm sure glad Verve scrapped the Charlie Parker set being attached to a live bird. Now that would have been too literal. You should have seen the other packaging ideas they had in the works for their other sets. One was a Johnny Hodges set attached to a rabbit. But the Coleman Hawkins "Hawk" set that was under development flew away with the Hodges set. It was tragic.
  7. Happy Birthday Catesta!
  8. Aftab, They are ending the unlimited downloads feature. Now you'll only get (I believe) 60 downloads per month (I believe that is 60 tracks, not albums) for the same price.
  9. I'm glad your friends are okay, Jim! My best wishes to them. Personally, I feel like I'm living in an ashtray. Choke! But, I feel really blessed that this is the worst of it for me so far. My best wishes to the rest of you out there!
  10. You made me laugh so hard I choked on my lunch.
  11. Oof! I should have said that. The sound you hear is me kicking myself.
  12. Nothing shocks me anymore. It just seems to get weirder and weirder.
  13. I picked the new RVG up a couple weeks ago and I'm still digging it. I really like this album. I agree with Brandon, it's my favorite post-'VOL. 1 & 2' Blue Note Powell date.
  14. Where do you find all this stuff, Catesta? How about King Tut? You know he's my favorite Honkey.
  15. Jim, I've been looking around for some info for you. Here's a link to an active fires map: Active fires map From looking at the map, Murrieta doesn't seem to be where the fires are. The closest city to Murrieta on the map (I believe) is Temecula. Here's a link to a talk radio station in San Diego. They have news on their page and links to other pages with fire info. KOGO radio in San Diego I hope your friends and their home are well!
  16. AfricaBrass, your new and improved avatar just about made me spit coffee all over my monitor!! Thanks Uncle Skid! It's my avatar's Halloween costume.
  17. Good luck! My wife's from Michigan and her mom loves Mitch Albom. She also keeps telling me how Farmer Jack's has better prices and food than the stores out here. To quote my future governor, "Kill Me Now!" Have fun!
  18. It's his Halloween costume.
  19. My source also told me the reason they gave up on the "Bird" packaging was because of a number of reasons. 1.) The cds would get stuck on the bird's legs and sometimes limbs would be broken trying to remove the cd. PETA really would have gotten on them for that. 2.) The bird was prone to flying away, and in doing so, the set would be lost. The management figured customers might not be too happy. Customers don't mind Tetanus, but having your $50 set fly away MIGHT be too much. 3.) The bird would need feeding, and if not fed, would die and make a terrible smell. 4.) Sometimes the bird would bite the box set user. Actually, my source says it happened quite frequently. My source says the day was saved when they realized that they had a bunch of those AOL tins, so they used what they had and asked their friends if they had extras. It was a happy day at the label when they realized they had found enough AOL cd tins.
  20. Don't give them any ideas. You should see what the original packaging looked like! Through a secret source at the label, I was able to get an image of the ad that was to run in the major jazz magazines for the set with its' original packaging.
  21. What about the Burger King?
  22. If she's so worried about top-heavy chickens, she needs to help this guy out. Ol' Mayor McCheese must have a terrible back.
