I have a question about a DVD in the series Jazz Classical Masters. This one is volume 4 and it contains a film from the 1962 Newport Festival. I have tried to find out all that (fragments) of artist and I do have: (Intro with music on the back ground and views of Newport) / Count Basie (says the liner notes, but it is Oscar Peterson / Lambert, Hendrick and Bavan / Roland Kirk with Goin' To Chicago / John Browns Body + When The saints sung bu Cura Stars Gospel singers (?) / Your Heart Delight (?)played by Oscar Peterson - The bass player is Ray Brown / Some big band fragment from Duke Ellington Orchestra (with I Got Rhythm (?) and Things Ain't What They Used To Be) and finally Count Basie with Jimmy Rushing and unknown singer (to me) with songs like I Love You virginia and another title. The quality is very very bad. It looks as if someone filmed with an 8 mm camera from the last row. I hope someone knows what documentary this is. Can you give me the details? BTW: I do have the line ups for volume 1,2 and 3 Durium

You're right Brad, Call it jazzy dance music - it was suppost to be that. Some items are real jazz like the Duke Ellingtons (Harlem Hot Chocolates). The musicians played on the recordings all tried to make a living during the depression days by being part of these jazz dance records. Sure, there are a lot or (jazz) colllectors who will be interested in this unique series of card board records because of the music, the personnel (most were well known jazz musicians - Tommy Dorsey, Red Nichols, Adrian Rollini, Jack Teagarden or the Ellington crew) - or the fact that these records were the very first recordings they heard about jazz for the very first time. Have a look at my online discography to find out what musicians took part of the sessions. The Complete Hit of the week Recordings - volume 1 (1930) THe story and some sound samples

I'd like to inform you about the release of the first 2CD of "The complete Hit of the week Recordings" (1930). This set will contain four 2CDs. Never heard of it? Well, they sold on newsstands during the Great Depression for 15 cents and quickly became the best-selling records of the early 1930s: the laminated flexible cardboard records known as "Hit of the Week." Featuring the top songs of the day, performed by some of the most noted jazz and dance musicians (often under pseudonyms), Hit of the Week records provided just that--one hit, once a week--to an American public with hardly a dime to spare but hungry for great music by great artists. Today, you'll find a number of these records all curled up and unplayable at garage sales down the street, but for the first time ever, Archeophone is presenting the complete output of the Durium Company, makers of Hit of the Week records, during its short lifespan. More info and sound samples Mail me for details.

Thanks Mke, I tried to obtain a copy in the record shops around my place, but no-one had heard off it. Strange, because it was reviewed in "Jazz" our wide-spread jaz magazine. BTW: More Hargrove images on my web site: Roy Hargrove in Porgy en Bess

Dear Mike, As a new BFT member I will also make a BFT in future. Please post me as # 50 - I guess I have some months (years?) to collect some real fine recordings.

I learned that a new Roy Hargrove RH Factor CD has been released, called : "Strength" on Verve Did one of you heard this one. It hasn't been emerged on this side of the country. It seems to be a Verve-France release? It's an EP - what does that mean? What's the playing time?
