    Oscar Aleman

Well, Allen, I don't agree with you. Oscar Aleman was a great jazz guitar player, others then Django, so it is impossible to compare them with each others. It's nice, indeed, that he lived much longer. One of the participants of our presentation in Copenhagen ( El Redescubrimiento de Oscar Aleman ) is Theo van de Graaff who visited Oscar's apartement in 1980 and lived and playued with him for two months.

    Oscar Aleman

El Redescubrimiento de Oscar Aleman One of the subject at the 2005 IAJRC Convention in Copenhagen.
  10. I've seen Roy playing many times in our small jazz club. He's great. I saw him with his Crisol band and I still think that was his greatest group. And many times with his "traditional" quintet. And I heard him with RH Factor. His experiences with the RH Factor isn't my piece of cake either, but I enjoyed the three hours concert of the band thanks to the wonderful trumpet of Roy. If you're anxious some images have been posted on My Webpage. Get inside and find the Roy Hargrove sites. I do have a lot (not all) recordings from him, from the very beginning up to now.
  11. I had hoped you would give me some more months to find the recording dates .... Well I give it up. It seems as if Christmas-styled music isn't interested for serious jazzdiscographers. Maybe someone should make a Jazz Christmas Songs Discography - It would get high sales figures around the end of the year. I only found: track 2 - dec. 1966 track 4 - Feb. 4, 1992 And the Chiaruscuro Christmas CD was released 1995. Please Don, if you have ... forward me the reest of the recording dates.
  12. I had hoped you would give me some more months to find the recording dates ....
  13. Today I received a message from Archeophone Records to inform me that the first "pressings" of the 2CD "The Complete Hit of the week Recordings (volume one) is sold out and will be reordered. Good news !! So, don't hesitate to get your copy. My Webpage
  14. Can someone give me the recording date of the Chet Baker Live At Ronnie Scott's DVD (DAVID0013) session?
  15. I just received the Tango Reporter magazine, written in Spanish, with a cover story named "Un Oscar Con Swing" written by Carlos G. Groppa. In the magazine most images and information were copied from and credited to the "El Redescubrimiento de Oscar Aleman" sites. A link to the El Redescubrimiento de Oscar Aleman site is in the final note of the magazine. The first reactions I received was that it might be one of the best article about this Argentinean guitar player ever. So, if you read Spanish ..... enjoy it. The text of the article is to be read here (in the web versions there aren't any images - sorry - you'll find them in my site. The documentary "Una vida con Swing" about the life of Oscar Aleman is available on DVD in Argentina next week. I still don't have any information about prices or region codes at the moment.
  16. Thanks to some contributions of Han Enderman and Rainer Lotz I could update my online Oscar Aleman with new label scans. Enjoy it: Some LES LOUPS Victors Some Oscar Aleman SWING Some Oscar Aleman Quinteto de Swing Odeons Some more Oscar Aleman Quinteto de Swing Odeons
  17. First of all, thanks for the great fun this disc brings me every time I spin it! But I do have a few questions: 1) Where is Oscar credited as the leader of this date? Or is this just an assumption of yours? Crow eaten here: I was going strictly by memory as far as the leadership goes. I made a CDR of this track from the library’s copy of the Coltrane Bethlehem disc. For some reason, the Blakey sessions didn’t do that much for me. In fact, this was the only song of that whole set I really dug. Anyway, I could’ve swore it said “The Oscar Pettiford All-Stars.” If it didn’t, then it must be a band-name I dreamt up just to give the track an artist name on my disc! Does this throw any light on the matter? I do have the John Coltrane Bethelhem Years on a 2CD set of Charly The band name is < Winner's Circle > and the personnel < Donald Byrd tp, Frank Rehak tb, Gene Quill as, John Coltrane ts, Al Cohn b, Eddie Costa p, Freddie Green g, Oscar Pettiford b, Philly Joe jones dm. Recorded NYC Oct. 1957 In the liner notes this session is called a < mid-sized jamming tracks under the title Winner's Circle. > Winner's Circle was a compilation of groups supposedly devised from firstplace finishers in the Down Beat Critics Poll of 1957 (both Established Talent and New Star categories). Thee have been made eight recordings - four are in the Coltrane Bethelehem Years CD. There is no leader mentioned.
  18. I'll look 'em up and post them in the original answer posts! Great !!
  19. I love this compilation, but I missed the recording dates. These are the results of my research. 20. Can someone give me the recording date for Guy van Duser's "Live from Boulevard Music" as it was published on the Major Label ML012 ?
  21. Never mind; it's better then no information.
  22. That seems chronologically impossible. Wynton Marsalis was born in 1961.
  23. Mine arrived in good order. thank you Michael
  24. Who can give me the recording date for the two session ( new york and tokyo) of one of the first Wyton Marsalis LPs (CBS 85404) with his brother Branford and Herbie Hancock and Tony Williams and Ron Carter in the Japanese session)?
  25. Thank you Milan for this experience. Your BFT # 20 was my first blindfoldtest and I learned how difficult it is to recognize tunes and members. I'm going to re-listen your item often I'm sure. I'm anixous to see more tests. Thanks again Milan and .... keep swinging
