Can someone give me more info about the 1959 film Cry of Jazz with the Sun Ra Arkestra?
Is it worth having it - it's a semi-documentary I understood - gives it a view on the Arkestra? Is it about Sun Ra's music or is he only part of the sound track?
when i responded to your thread, a used copy of this tape was available from a seller on amazon marketplace for $19.99.
i assume someone else, possibly even another member of this board, bought it.
That's the one, Jazzshrink. Thanks !!
I guess that the VHS tape on Amazon is the Robert Altman film "Kansas City". I was talking about the Robert Altman DVD "Kansas City - Jazz '34". Altman tells about the Kansas City music style of the 1930s and uses the complete jam sessions he filmed for the film "Kansas City" to illustrate. Really a great documentary.

A great article, called Het geheim van mevrouw Hartloper ( The secret of Mrs. Hartloper ) by Jeroen de Valk is published in the Jazz Bulletin (# 58 ) of the Dutch Jazz Archive. Mrs. Hartloper was the landlady of Ben Webster during his three years stay in Amsterdam during the late 1960s

The CD arrived today in Holland, so let's give it a try.
To be honest - I think this is a very nice record, but as always very difficult to place names and titles. I'll write down what I thought at first when I heard some tunes:
1. Brad Mehldau Trio. I don't know why, but it felt like that.
8. Coltrane and Shorter?
That's all for now. I 'll re-listen later.
