Still no reduction in the list but another new picture. I just had a picture of the disk on the site so I've replaced it with this one, albeit not a very clear image, at 54/2.

Not one more off the list but a completely new album of which I did not know. 59/5 in the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography.

So fourteen left! Here is the new list to refer to if you are still looking. Some of them probably don't even exist but if I leave them in something might turn up. Thanks again to everybody for all the help. A long list of names now at our site, in the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography www.ronnieross.com (list moved to later post)

Now for what brought me here today. A fanfare (imagine this please). All my own work - Found on eBay, purchased at some expense (definitely not eBay madness though), vetted for jazz content (minimal but there), and scanned to produce a picture of sorts. Here it is!

Your post slipped by me, Couw - sorry for the delay in replying. I rely on looking at "new posts" so can't understand how I missed it. Unfortunately, I don't think it's the right one. I have run into several versions of the tunes in question by Acker Bilk and your picture is of one of the others I'm pretty sure. Nice try though! Thanks.
  7. I've just got round to comparing the answers to what I said all that long time ago. Certainly some I might have guessed if I'd been a bit more alert - particularly Harold Land - he was the one I felt I should know but couldn't produce the name - same for Carmell Jones but a little less so. Warne Marsh was a name that did occur at the time but I was not confident enough to say so. Kenny Burrell in 2 too! The tracks I liked most were 1, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 16. Missed Clark in the last - poor show! Thanks again for an interesting, enjoyable and challenging CD with lots of variety, Chris - what more can we ask?

A new version of the missing covers list, shorter now due to some having been eliminated. Now down to fifteen. Please keep an eye open for any of these album covers you might have or see or your travels and surfing. I hope to get the Les Brown album soon but as it is not yet in my hand I'm leaving it in. Edit - See later post for up-dated list.

An addition to the Ronnie Ross Jazz Discography www.ronnieross.com with picture too. A very large entry at 57/3.
  10. Happy Birthday, Chris

  12. Happy Birthday, Daniel!!!
  13. Fascinating!
  14. Does anyone have this album or know anything about it? I would like to know if it was recorded at a live session at the Bulls Head Barnes, London, probably about March 1998, or if it was from a studio session.

I think so, yes. The previous one has a rougher texture in the detail, around Don's horn and the mike particularly, although it does seem to have better clarity of the text at the bottom. The smoother picture swings it I reckon. I make them all just 200 X 200 on the website (or try to - some seem to have minds of there own as to the size they want to be) so not too much can be seen there anyway.

Thanks yet again, Sidewinder. A distinct improvement once I had removed the thing at bottom right.
  17. email coming.
  18. As usual, lots of stuff I think I might know, almost, but can’t produce names. But here goes with what I can guess at, trying to be cryptic where appropriate. 1. I’m sure I know this but can’t think who or what. Sounds west coast – two tenors – could be Kamuca perhaps. 2. This one I know and have. The tune is easy of course and the cheerful piano playing is from a great favourite. So doing a double take here on the tenors! 3. “Beginning” – even knew the words of this once. Don’t know anything about who’s playing, not my normal listening but enjoyable. 4. Piccolo? Penny whistle? Don’t know the tune. Just a non-cryptic guess that it might be Frank Wess “Trombones and Flute” album. 5. The tenor sounds most familiar here but the name eludes me. Trumpet too as next most. Alto more angular - style does not suit me or give any chance of a guess. 6. Blues – don’t know the name of the tune. Nobody that I can guess. Like it. 7. “Solitude” – could it be the composer playing? 8. “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” - got this album not long ago. Alto player in an unfamiliar suit. Grand stuff – does it swing! 9. No guesses here. 10. Ditto – don’t like tenor playing. 11. Don’t know this either – not in my stylistic preference area. 12. Ditto again. Blues but don’t know the tune. 13. “More Than You Know” – beautiful clarinet sound. Goodman is all I can think. 14. “How High the Moon” – Hamp? I’m out of my depth. Guitar very nice indeed. 15. One of those very familiar tunes where the name just won’t come. Pianist everybody will recognize I imagine. 16. Another blues but don’t know it. I think I should know the trumpeters but usual trouble with names. Very interesting selections – thanks a lot, Chris. Quite a few out of my usual scope but none the less enjoyable for that, but then a lot were dead centre for me too. edited for grammar!
  19. Comments prepared - ready to go when you are.
  20. Arrived here too. First foreign? Playing now - nice start. Thanks a lot.

Egad! Well done, Holmes! Zounds! The picture I had for the album was really of the compilation which included "Watts Cookin'" (for which I have a picture) so I have cut the hot pants (see below) and substituted the more demure image you have supplied. Making progress - keep up the good work, folks. Inspector Lestrade (?) Moriarty (?)
