  1. A wonder none of those Brown-Hampel group LPs have been reissued... all three are wonderful.
  2. Figured I'd try to sell these here: Gunter Hampel - The 8th of July 1969 - (Birth/Natural Jazz, GER) VG+/VG+ strong vintage copy of this one, vinyl is clean but the pressing itself is a bit crackly in the quiet parts. Not bad. Cover is nice with a soft crease to the top left corner and light shelf wear. HOLD Clarke-Boland Big Band - Now Hear Our Meanin' - (Columbia, US) VG++/VG+ nice session, deep-groove two-eye stereo pressing (not a reissue - this did come out on UK/German CBS as well with the same title). Vinyl plays great, light sleeve marks only. Cover has a filing strip on the top seam, a small sticker remnant on the back and personnel underlining discreetly penned. $12 Eddie Gale Band - This is Hot! - (Sagittarius A-Star, IT) M-/M- solid millennial session with Prince Lasha and John Gruntfest on reeds, played once if at all. $8 Shipping is $4 Media, $9 Priority - international is much higher but doable. Buy all three and get 'em shipped for $35 (CONUS only).
  3. Haven't dug that one out in years - nice record!
  4. Yeah, that seems about right. My only version of this has been the UK Fontana LP of "Ghosts," which sounds wonderful.
  5. Nice - been looking for that one for ages.
  6. Sweet, I'll keep an eye out for it. Thank you.
  7. How is that one (need I ask)? It doesn't come up that often and I saw it on eBay a few months ago but didn't pull the trigger for some lame reason.
  8. Like a number of people I picked up the Diane Hildebrand LP around 2000, when it seemed to have a cultish resurfacing (it came out on Elektra in '69). Just pulled it out of the crust-pile to give it a spin and it still holds up, maybe better than it did 13 years ago. NFS I guess. Recommended folk-rock.

  9. Maybe I'll switch back to CDs; my balls could use less bustin'.
  10. Hah, yeah, she's an acquired taste. I think the LP pales next to offerings from Perception, Cohelmec, Machi-Oul and the like.
  11. Full Moon Ensemble - Crowded with Loneliness - (CBS-Soulfly FR, reissue) Interesting record, heavy vinyl and cover, yet sounds like it was made from crappy MP3s (ultra-compressed). I remember hearing a tape someone made for me years ago and it sounded much fuller and more present... that said, I can't imagine dropping the bills for an original. Guess some things are just better left to the ears of hardcore collectors.
  12. Broke down and bought myself a new t-shirt online (the ranks are getting thin). Bonus: it's a Rodan t-shirt, hand-stenciled by Mr. Mueller himself.

  13. It's been a bit since I've dug out the LP. Must do so! Would love to read Hazell's essay.
  14. I have a soft spot for Mulligan from this period too.
  15. Yeah, I thought that this "culture of obedience" was recently disproven.
  16. Sorry to hear of this. I didn't know her work but a number of trumpeters I know seem to be deeply affected by the loss. RIP.
  17. The Ran Blakes are not particularly well-pressed, nor is the Burton Greene. The Ras sound fine as do the Shepps and a number of others I have.
  18. Last night I was taking the subway home from Grand Central, and hadn't heard the verdict yet. I was waiting for the downtown 4 to Union Square on a fairly well-populated platform. Standing a little bit away from me was an African-American man who was staring and gesticulating at me in a way that signaled to me he may have been mentally ill. Not an uncommon thing, mentally ill people in New York (or anywhere). Getting on the train, he sat close to me and continued staring and laughing. He also...

  19. ^ Beautiful. Now: Steve Gunn - Time Off - (Paradise of Bachelors) Excellent contemporary folk-rock.
  20. Sorry to hear this.
