  1. This week in Brooklyn improvising...

  2. Yeah, I think I pulled mine for $9.99 on eBay.
  3. Haven't spun that Sunny Murray LP in ages. Now: John & Alice Coltrane - Cosmic Music - (Impulse red/black stereo)
  4. Certainly one of the finest of the 70s trio dates. I also like Number Nineteen. Yes, I've been playing this again today.....it's VERY good. I understand that it was recorded by Manfred Eicher for release on ECM but for some reason it never happened and eventually came out on the Japanese label Globe. Anyone know the story behind this? Good question. I assume it was a licensing thing; Globe had several Mal Waldron titles in their catalog including The Call (Japo) and All Alone (GTA Italy). The catalog numbers on these titles align with Japanese Victor LPs and I believe the two were related. Most Japanese ECMs I've encountered are on Trio/Kenwood and from a few years later.
  5. I would like to submit an alternative to the Talkhouse where Doug Holbrook, Joe Panzner, Jesse Kudler, Nick Hennies and myself discuss music and lolz. There would be cats.

  6. Well, at least Zeitgeist is pretty cheap when it comes around... I would assume the problem with Springboard is despite the fact it was produced by Eddie Kramer, it's somehow wrapped up in the Polydor clusterf*ck. Cool record - was able to snag it for not too much bread some time ago. A few of those are pretty much out of my record-spending cap, which though it gets higher every year, cannot crack the four digit mark.
  7. Ubu: The Surman is complete save one track I believe. It's a solid album-length performance, so I'm not sure what you're thinking.
  8. The town has a gift shop that sells things like shot glasses, miniature fishermen holding "Dildo" signs, etc. It's beautiful country up there.
  9. Close then.. When my parents visited Newfoundland several years ago they returned with a bunch of town memorabilia from Dildo...
  10. NP: Ut - Griller - (Blast First!)
  11. Yep. I've had trouble finding an exact birthdate - anyone got that info?
  12. Yeah, my copy of that Oxley is fine. The Baptised Traveller is a bit crackly in the quiet parts of "Stone Garden" but dealable. The LP material on Odyssey was previously on The Collection (Cadence) and Bill Dixon 1982 (Edizioni Ferrari). If I recall correctly the Fore material is not on Odyssey as there have been problems licensing it from Splasch, who bought the Fore catalog. The unissued Fore triple LP, In the Sign of the Labyrinth, is a current interest for publication but again, it's tied up in another label's vaults.
  13. Sorry to hear this. She was/is excellent.
  14. Tony Oxley - Four Compositions for Sextet - (CBS, UK)
  15. Really sorry to learn that clarinetist Rozanne Levine passed away in June. Her recordings are all excellent and though we never met person, I always enjoyed corresponding with her. A very cool woman whose art will live on - may she rest in peace.

  16. Yeah, this was a drag to learn today. Great player, nice lady.
  17. Yes, both volumes are essential.
  18. Someone I know on FB - can't remember who - was looking for a fresh copy of the Acting Trio on BYG Actuel (Maté, Maurice, Sabar). Vogel Music International has one for sale on Discogs in good nick. Just puttin' that out there.

  19. Oh yes, that Cooper record is great. I don't have his other solo on Anima, alas.
  20. Dark - Round the Edges - (SIS/Machu Picchu reissue)
  21. Velvet Underground - White Light/White Heat - (Verve blue label stereo) RIP to artist Walter De Maria, also an early Velvets drummer.
  22. I have a stereo Japanese paper-sleeve edition from about 10 years ago (maybe more) that sounds really good.
  23. Yeah, I second Down in the Village and Late Spot at Scott's. The CD reissues just sound tremendous (tho I'd love to own the Fontana vinyl), whether or not you become an obsessive fan after hearing them. Mexican Green is a stone corker, too. The Tempo stuff is really nice but I think he came into his own in the '60s (I'm sure many would disagree with that statement, however). Another fine one is this set put out by the late Tony Levin: Addictive Tendencies
  24. Wow. Great set. I'm particularly fond of the book. I wish more of the Frank Wright set would surface, as it's particularly well-recorded.
