  1. Oh yeah, I want the music, I just don't know the history about the original release of this material, which I find interesting. The two albums released from these sessions at the time were Lester Bowie" Numbers 1 & 2 and Roscoe Mitchell's Conglipitous. More music was released in the 70s on Roscoe Mitchell's Old/Quartet. No, I hear you HG - was just being emphatic. I have the LPs and the box, and would get the single discs if issued as well.
  2. What if it was 50c or a dollar? I'd buy a candy bar. I have very few "filler" copies in my collection; would rather wait until the copy I want comes along. Then again, I consider blue-label BNs or green-label Prestige vinyl "keepers" if they're in fine shape. It's the Meriendorfstrasse FMPs that I'm picky about...
  3. So would that be a "great find" or a "not-so-great find" ? I think I'd even pass on a holy grail if it had a chip out of the vinyl...
  4. There's no reason not to have this music in your collection, HG. I'm sure Chuck will let the board know when this material is out again.
  5. I just put my girlfriend's pitch-corrected CD issue on my iPod and am fine with that. Used to have a six-eye mono but sold it, as it was a little the worse for wear.
  6. His leader date for Savoy was pretty good, IIRC.
  7. Hmm, wonder where he is? Hope it's celebrating properly!
  8. Yeah, I almost bought that one too! I've not heard that it ranks too highly, and Beirach is not one of my go-to guys on the piano. Still, it's not that common. I guess for $5 I shoulda bought it, but my haul was decent enough as it is and now that I finally got all my LPs out of storage, space IS a problem...
  9. Right, that's what I meant, additional to the LP-released material.
  10. Really nice interview with Haden linked there from Do the Math.
  11. As I understand it (and maybe Chuck can correct me if needed), these will be reissued as singles with additional material in the future.
  12. Chicks don't dig Wilbur Harden?
  13. This would be in the special collections and probably one would apply for access.
  14. The Michael Cosmic LP... seen ONE copy (a friend has it). Never on eBay or offered on any lists I've seen. It is really, really good. Whipped out the checkbook and my friend said "no way!"
  15. Why would you want one single source for the history as diverse and complex as that of this music?
  16. Not a follower of the label at all, but Machine Music looks interesting.
  17. Yes, welcome. Good choice of a handle. Still waiting for the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble to either magically show up at my doorstep in LP form or for somebody to reissue it.
  18. Sounds neat. Have to look out for it. Bet there are sealed copies floating around in NYC.
  19. Glad to see this one is finally being properly reissued. I have an original vinyl and it's a fantastic session of weighty, vamp-based and searing modern jazz. Reece deserves a hell of a lot more recognition for his post-BN career.
  20. Where? Don't have that one. Only thing on the BNs box I need, other than the unreleased tracks, is the '64 session. What to do...
  21. So if RVG wasn't ramping up the compression, the trebly sound wouldn't be as much of a problem, and v.v.
  22. From a friend of mine who is now out of music:
  23. I'm bumping this because I've been thinking recently about RVG remasters vs. McMasters. There are a lot of RVG-related threads and discussions, and maybe I'm beating a dead horse (1) and bringing it up in an irrelevant topic (2). How much compression is RVG using vs. McMaster? It seems like Rudy is using more to me, but not being an expert in this end of things, I don't know. Having compared RVG editions of the Ike Quebec records with the McMaster Conns, I prefer the latter - to me, they seem "hotter." Anybody care to weigh in or point me to a better discussion of this topic?
  24. It's chewy. Shouldn't that be self-explanatory?
