Yeah, this is a fine, fine one that I haven't dug out in quite some time. In addition to sending me a review copy, he signed and sent one to my dad. Super sweet guy.
Also some love for the pair of discs he issued on his Speetones label...
The Monterose in Action LP is a motherfucker (I have the VSOP reissue). I would assume his playing on these two tracks is very strong, as it's from the same period.
I think I gotta hear this
Here are a few more, the list may not be "well-informed" only because I'm not a huge follower of jazz vocals... but these four I find extraordinary. All of Jeanne's and Patty's work is major, of course.
Sheila Jordan - Portrait of Sheila
Patty Waters - You Thrill Me
Jeanne Lee w/ Ran Blake - The Newest Sound Around
John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman
Frontal lobotomies all round !
The photo of the back cover was too small for me to read. Who the buggerin' 'ell are those flautists?
MG
Russell Webster was the nominal leader, I guess. But I'm speechless as the Uncle Funkenstein 45 isn't even valuable...
I have it on LP and purchased the US Conn version for the second disc of material.
I could swear I bought it twice because of the problem you mention, but it was some time ago.
