I thought that at one point there was a Japanese CD of this. I generally have got the most mileage out of the title track, by Hugh Steinmetz, but side two is also pretty great. "Afrodisiaca" in itself is a mind-fuck. Hopefully Tchicai is able to salvage the tapes of CND jamming with MEV in the late '60s... now THAT has got to be insane!

Yeah, that is a great disc. Pretty fucked, though of course Dixon's Odyssey started it all. (or the Collection did, whatever...)

The jewelcase edition of the Japanese import is available at a very low price these days. Hmm. When I've seen it, it's been in the $30-$40 range. More than what I paid for my vinyl copy, in fact.

One never knows. I'm on the fence about the whole DMG thing. I mean, Mommy sent me a copy of Le Temps Fou that is a rip. I would never in a million years be able to afford that LP. However, ethically what DMG (and some others) are doing is weak. Nevertheless, few labels really "paid out" in the first place - BYG, Alan Bates or whomever. So whether they would have got royalties from these sessions to begin with seems fairly moot.

I really like Black Ark a lot - funnily enough, there is a Japanese CD of it, but it's OOP and for some reason, rather expensive... more than the LP, in fact! Scorpio was also on a Japanese CD through P-Vine, also now OOP. An excellent date that should not be missed. I really am surprised that the Free America series did not reissue the Arthur Jones or the Noah Howard, which would have fit nicely on one disc with Uhuru na Umoja. Will have to read this AAJ review of the Wright - I guess it's not for everybody, but it is a very fine performance. Edit: wow, just read that. I find it interesting that people utterly slam things that they may not quite get. If it were me and I detested the music that much, I'd pass it along to another reviewer who might see something I missed. But whatever.

The Village Gate material is pretty hip, too, also on Atlantic.
