  1. my copy of this disc does the same thing, returned it three times to shop before giving up, works ok on some cd players but not others, IIRC it's only some extra takes that are affected so I could live with it. Very interesting to hear that! Exactly my experience. Thanks for your response. A modest and obvious suggestion would be to split the cd in two cd-r.
  2. Yep. This is pretty true with my Mahler and Bruckner's symphonies, early pressings usually has splitted 'movement', later reissues tried to fit all in one side. On Davis' Mosaic, they downsized the groove of 'Circle In The Round' in order to have the whole track on one side.
  3. Not that I know of. Have you tried playing the CD on another player? Did you read the post you quoted?
  4. Why do you say that? I noted that I listen to less and less 'avantgarde' and 'free jazz' in these days. It's getting more and more difficult for me to follow the lines of the musicians, at some point I loose the road and I find myself in a unpleasant and unknown sound mess. Maybe I am only distracted by my own thoughts and I follow them, instead of music. It could be a temporary lapse in concentration about music in general, it will pass, I hope. Surprised you find Complete Communion particularly difficult. I've been listening to jazz for over fifty years and am frankly most at home in the era of Pres and Bird, but the swing and emotional intensity of CC just carries me along. Now, if you said you found Cecil Taylor or Ornette Coleman's Free Jazz hard to listen to, I'd be less surprised! True, CC isn't the best sample. It's more a general mood I am into right now. I spoke out because I was listening to it. In these days I wouldn't dare to spin a late Trane or Cecil Taylor record.

  6. Don Cherry - Complete Communion - from Mosaic box set. Maybe I am getting too old for such stuff.
  7. That's bad. I am not going to tell it to my wife, she'd be very upset!
  8. A changer? Why don't you buy a music server instead?
  9. It's a real question.
  10. Yeah! MG One last thing... Does it have 'vangelder' on dead wax? I am asking it because my wife's Liberty copy doesn't.
  11. BTW I 'll hook my laptop to my stereo rig and hear what happen.
  12. Don't know about this digital mosquito, but I can clearly hear real mosquitos, those bastards.
  13. Did you say something?
  14. Ludwig Van Beethoven - Symphony No. 3 - Karl Böhm/ Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, DG
  15. Johannes Brahms - Piano Quintet F minor op. 34 - Amadeus Quartet/ Christoph Eschenbach, DG
  16. Why not an audiophile version of it: The Golden Miracle CD Gloves, hand made in japan with precious and aged japanese silk. The Golden Miracle CD Gloves come in a palissander wood box, hand signed by Yamamoto San.
  17. I am not really worried about plastic as toxic agent, I am more worried about plastic as long lasting waste. I think we should use less plastic in your daily behaviors anyway.
  18. If you can use ext mikes, and you have some skill about it, sound shouldn't be an issue for you. In my experience in upper segment of non broadcast cams, you don't pay useless extra features, you pay for qualities like definition, reliability, easy to use. I mean that a good viewfinder or a real manageable focus and zoom and iris controls while shooting is hard to find in very small cams. You can't shoot in automatic for broadcasting.
  19. I am no longer in shooting, just editing, so I am not acquainted about the most recent models. Talking about video quality Sony, Panasonic and Canon have usually good products both in miniDv and HD DV format. (just avoid the 'Handycam' size) The biggest problem is good audio. Usually broadcast quality external mikes need power supply and have XLR connector, (and they are expensive), so you'd need a camcorder with such facility: power supply and XLR connections, usually only the most expensive ones have it. In my experience the onboard mikes are far from broadcast quality.
  20. Yeah, porcy - I should have known that from experience. Combine that with the Fact that the Bristol store is the only one in Western England and the effect of the 21% sale and a day of madness is a dead cert. Habitat used to be the same in the seventies. MG Back in those days we weren't an highly industrialized country yet, fortunately
  21. I've got it as LT series, how's the sound on Conn Edition? Just playing 'Hank's Other Bag'. It sounds fine, although the sound of this session was always a bit of a 'pea souper' in my opinion. Maybe Music Matters should re-master it? Have also got a UK Liberty LT of this and will dig it out over the next few days (especially as I've now found it after it was hiding ). Yep, from my POV I'd like more good sounding reissue of such stuff, rather then the common titles, reissued dozens of times from 'Lexington' to 'Liberty' to 'Classic'.
  22. After a most unpleasant experience yesterday in the Bristol IKEA queuing for miles at Junction 2 of M38 and then avoiding manic Bristol area idiot parents-posessed-with-killer pushchairs (why do they impose that place on their poor babies? ) I got hold of pretty well of their last birch finish 1.49x1.49m Expedit shelf at 21% off (I earned it). The good news is that now assembled it does the job brilliantly and my LP and box storage issues are now history. Adding their 32" x 32" wicker baskets to the bottom shelf also softens the look nicely. After putting this one in the upstairs study I think I'll add another into one of the bedrooms. Looks like it is OK too without need for backing board. You can even push the LPs in to each cube to aford a bit of protection against any sunlight coming in. Ikea's crowd in the week end is one of the worst effect of globalization, just after global warming.
