  1. Blue Mitchell Down With It! BN NY stereo.
  2. Forget the logo on the right bottom corner, mine is an original UK pressing, Island "Pink round logo" label. Big, punchy and sweet pure analog stereo sound And a mint "gimmick" cover
  3. Done it. My biggest contribute to the science ever. And it was the MIT.
  4. I have this set and am extremely pleased with it. His performances of the slow movements on the final sonatas (esp. Op 101, 109, 111) are profound. Guy Post it in small characters, otherwise you could wake up Chuck or Clem
  5. Danielle, with maximum respect, frankly I don't know what you expect from us. Being older men doesn't mean we have an answer to the problem you posed. Not knowing your friend, the contest, the teacher, ecc. JSngry's post is the best and wisest one can say.
  6. but then you will be in trouble when time comes to replace the stylus! I'll place an indefinite contract with my hi-fi dealer to periodically service the deck etc. every few years before senility sets in. It would be nice, but what about if your dealer is older then you?
  7. Donald Byrd MUSTANG NY mono.
  8. Just think at any classical music sets, Mozart or Beethoven works for example, chamber music, sonatas, symphonies, concertos, the lattest are definitely better.
  9. Never thought I will reach such age. The males of my family died well before nursing home. Genetic, not pessimism.
  10. What about this guy? Though not my favorite one, I bet that at Pentagon they still miss him.
  11. When I think how the press and all the circus, cyclists included, crucified Pantani, such a hypocrit bunch of moroons. BTW, Too easy to admit doping after retirement or at the end of a career.
  12. Looking at covers, I am pretty sure I stumbled on some of them in my vinyl's shops wandering. Never bought one, I always assumed they were bad recorded collections of stuff available on other labels, some sort of italian bootlegs. And they were really cheap. Next time I'll not miss the shot.
  13. Ron Carter Where? New Jazz. One of my all times favourite.
  14. Don Cherry MU first part BYG
  15. As much I love the first three Santana's records, and dislike "Love Devotion, ecc", I admit I never owned Caravanserai, not listen to it. I moderately appreciate Lotus, that I own in a dutch pressing. So since it's Guy's AOTW, I'll try to grab a vinyl in the future
  16. But an active loudspeaker would cut off the sweet Marantz, that would be a shame. If you like the idea of a real tube oriented system, my suggestion would be a horn speakers, high efficency, at least an active subwoofer, if you really want to shake the house.
  17. Nick Drake Fruit Tree Island box set.
  18. Holy shit!!! 8 x 15" bass driver !!! that must really shake your house. Are you an organ freak?? that would be perfect for it. And I thought that I had big bass with 4 x 8" It could shake the house, but we choose to rarely shake it! These speakers were installed by the guy who built the house. He was a retired dentist with MS, confined to a wheelchair, whose joy in life was listening to his 50,000+ classical LP collection on this system. He had an entire wall of the bedroom made into built in LP racks, too. My wife wants to move out of the house, into a nicer house, which I can't argue with. I am trying to figure out whether this speaker system is notable enough to make it worth taking it out of the walls and installing it in whatever new house we buy. Any opinions on that? I would really appreciate all of your input. Loudspeakers are the components that are much improved in the last twenty years. I mean that now you can buy good new, or used, modern louspeakers at a fraction of the price. At the same time, I think you have to consider the total cost and hassle of remove them and reinstall in the new house. For sure I'd bring with me the rest of the system, including the two Marantz. If you are a good DiYselfer, I'd get all the stuff. Do you already know the new house? Do you have the place to install this "wall of sound"?
  19. UK, Pink Rim Island pressing. Some of those Islands sound great, like the Crimson's stuff.
  20. Kind of Blue, Columbia "six eyes" mono.
  21. THE WHO HAPPY JACK Decca, mono.
  22. Miracle Doctor's Record Cleaner. It worked so well on my old BN that I am convinced that it will be good for me too. It will remove all my pops and click, background noise and I'll shine like a pristine new man.
  23. I bought some years ago a new (still sealed ) original first mono pressing of Way Out West. And it sounds gorgeous. No A/B comparison with the Analogue 45RPM, maybe I should buy it just to try. About the 45RPM series, I was tempted from the starting of it, but for some odd reason, maybe TOO AUDIOPHILE for my taste, I bought only Davis' Relaxin and I sold it when I got the original. Never seriously compared them, though I owned both for a while. BTW the Analogue Production 33RPM reissues sound usually good, better then Classic, and no problems of the quality control of the lattest. Actually I think I've done with Classic reissues, one third of them has pops and thicks, and they are brand new. edit: About Way Out West, just noted thata reissue is stereo, so I'll stick with my mono original.
