  1. Since I started to buy used vinyls some years ago I was obsessed with cleaning. A part washing machines I tried every audiophile product on the market, with different results from poor to discreet. A couple of week ago I met an italian collector, he showed me his way. Well, I couldn't believe to my ears and eyes! With a sponge and soap for dish he resurrected an old lp of King Crimson I considered dead, after countless cleaning with all the esoteric stuff I bought. His method: Rinse the record on both side with tap water, put some soap for dish on the sponge, clean the record with circular movements on both directions. Rinse very well both side of the record. Dry the recor with a used towel, don't rub the label, it will dry during the last phase. Then play the record on both side, the stylus will remove the residue in the grove. The miracle happened at the second listening: unbeliveble! The record sounds almost perfect and the label looks perfect too. I imagine that some of you already use this method with most of the records, I mean I will not guaranteed that will work with shellac or old 78, but it works great with 33, and maybe with some labels you could loose some brightness and color. Anyway I wish to part it with all vinyl heads on the board. I think I will work a lot as dish washer in the next few days.

    Carla Bley

I love most of her ECM records, too bad that modern big band are so few! I like "I hate to sing", great and "funny" music! I couldn't say the same for Steve Swallow, his boring (ex?) husband
  3. This can help http://www.ronpenndorf.com/labelography.html
  4. Just found some records in my usual shop: J.Renbourn's FARO ANNIE, and Pentangle's SWEET CHILD. This was my sister's preferred music, maybe I snobbed it at that times. (you know: all that bullshits about the biggest brother...) What a discover! (or rediscover ) Renbourn and Jansch can really swing. On the Pentangle's record there are great versions of Haitian Fight Song and Goodbye Pork-Pie Hat! I think I will buy more records of these guys
  5. ORNETTE COLEMAN - Change Of The Century - Atlantic, mono
  6. Lounge Lizards NO PAIN FOR CAKES I love this mingus derived bands like LL and Carla Bley! LL are one of the underrated jazz group in this board, I don't know why, they havent't any Marsalis Bros in the line up!
  7. Damn Chuck! Don't leave us in ignorance!!!

    Jan Garbarek

I like most of the Garbarek's ECM albums (nice word, "album", now the musicians use "project"). Che, don't listen to all the guys above, probably they would love Garbarek only if there were some Garbarek's lp with a RVG stamp on the wax. For a lot of people ECM records are not interesting because they can't not discuss about the late 2256871399746985 bit or SupermegaHyper audio cd remastering. Is there any better music then "I took up the runes" for your car's trips?
  9. I had same feeling about dark signals at the start of eighties. Two mad men made an attempt to the lifes of Reagan and J. Lennon. Only one succeded. The wrong one.
  10. In my experience sealed records from a long time may have some scratch in the very early of the first tracks, probably due to fact that shrinkwrap is thighter on the edge. I never found a warped sealed record.
  11. "We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a saltshaker half-full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of uppers, downers, laughers, screamers... Also, a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether, and two dozen amyls. Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge, and I knew we'd get into that rotten stuff pretty soon." So long HST.
  12. Please do not take this the wrong way Che, but your post is unfair, and offensive towards the parents of this board that are proud of their babies and wish to share their happiness with other board member who are "friends" in some way.
  13. Well guys, if you prefer Windows for some reasons, stay with it. I just facetiously noted I did not have this kind of problems with my Mac. A discussion between Mac and MS believers could be harder than a political thread between Johnny E and The Groper
  14. Go on, fools, go on with Microsoft. With my MacIntosh I haven't got any virus or spyware since I connected myself to internet more than 10 years ago
  15. Horace Parlan's Mosaic.

  17. Wow, and it's a CD set!!!!
  18. Interesting question, but I don't think I will last enough for an answear.
  19. I second that. ITCOTCK is unbeatable on original vinyl (UK Island pink label), all the Crimson's albums sound gorgeous on original UK Island pressing. I think that Crimson's records are a good example of the great analog era, with Decca, BN, Prestige. I sold my HDCD digital versions of them, when I listened to the original vinyl. The MoFi vinyl is great too. The only problem is that original vinyl are damn expensive!
  20. As expert sommelier like I am, I have to say your idea of vine is sick! Cheers!

  24. Their speakers are bigger then yours
  25. Damn, I lost this thread since now, but I would suggest Roma, CAPUT MUNDI. We have sun, great food and wine, and a perfect place for the political forum
