Damn! I am a huge fan of the books of Adams, (and I trasmitted the passion to my son ) and we have to wait until september to see the movie in Italy!

Wolf, I would be glad to blame my power amps (Linn) for this, because I love the sound of my system (and my tube preamp as well (Audio Research)). I will send my Linns to assistence without specifying I use a tube preamp. Hope I will discover the cause of this damage. About tubes I have to say I don't love too much tubes power amps, they lack the punch and the bass frequencies speed I love for my rock records and I had to change power tubes too often for my taste, (my integrated tube amp was a VTL, maybe it was a bad match with my speakers, who knows?) Anyway good tubes sound great if correctly matched. Tubes are like vinyl, they need some more care. I will inform you about the 'guilty'!

Actually my tube preamp sounds nice to my ears. I had an integrated tubes amp few years ago, I sold it because power tubes lasted a short time, and replacing them was an hassle, a part the cost. I upgraded to tube preamp and solid state amps for a better sound and to avoid the cost and the hassle, but if tubes are responsable for this mess I will replace it with a solid state preamp.

I was listening to a record yesterday when a horrible bang jumped out of my speakers. The security switcher of my home general supply turned off. When I restored the supply at home I changed the tubes of my preamp and I discovered that one of my mono solid state power amps it's gone and the woofer of the loudspeaker is deadly silent. If all this audio earthquake depends on a single tube, price 10$, that is what I suspect, surely I will say goodbye to tubes amplification forever. Did you experience something like that?

Another reason to hate cell phones....

I don't blame cell technology. IMO we are living in a television world and these guys are simply shooting their own 'reality show', a sort of 'Big Bully Brother'. -
The brand new 'House of Jazz' opens Friday. http://www.casajazz.it/canale.asp?id=249 I hope the english page will open soon. Another useful link if you plan to visit Italy and wish to listen to jazz after a pizza. http://www.jazzitalia.net/eventimain.asp

Good choice. TDSOTM Anniversary Edition sounds great, and at good price, compared to absurd pricey original pressings. Some vinyl reissues are great: Sundazed, Speakers Corner, Analogue Production and Classic, love them.

I bought this record (if you are reffering to the last MFSL), but I felt unsatisfied with the sound and the Yoko's remix, compared to my late italian analog issue, at the end I bought a UK original pressing, (at the same price of MFSL). I find the UK pressing more 'natural', richer, maybe a little less dinamic and definition, but it gaves me more joy of listening. I sold the MFSL and the italian pressing and stick with the original. How do you judge your pressing?

I have a Redd Mosaic cd set in mint/vg++ condition to trade. I will trade it with a fair amount of jazz vinyls in NM condition. Due to the absurd shipping cost of oversea airmail (more than 40 dollars!) I have to limit my offer to european countries. PM if you have something to offer. SPECIAL OFFER 55 euros including shipping in EU countries

It could be the subconscious question of my thread. Usually I look at SH forum, but I never posted there. I am a lazy guy, it would require me to listen to 45 times the same record on countless pressings and remasterings. Anyway I buy both stereo and mono RVG pressings, it depends on wich one I find and on the price. And I have some tech curiousity about it, I suspect it will not be fullfilled.

I continue to find it amazing that the fed. govt. has made absolutely no effort over the decades to whip together a brief ad campaign stressing the importance of saving money. Are you serious? The whole system is based on overconsuming.

The Beatles could bail out Michael Jackson

That's seems a good reason to buy only used Beatles' vinyls, a part the gorgeous sound obviously -

Paul's pushed me into economist mode here. I guess it's rational to snipe when other people are (irrationally) max-bidding below their actual valuations -- that way you might pay a lower price for an item than you would if you simply set your valuation of the item as your max-bid. That said, it doesn't really make sense to get angry when someone snipes you out of an auction -- either you should have set your max-bid higher, or you're better off not having the item. Can sellers put in an option in their auctions to automatically extend bidding by 15-30 minutes when there is a bid within the last 1-2 minutes of an auction? I think that would make a lot of sense. Guy The main reason for me is time zone difference. It's so frustrating loosing auctions for a couple of $ when you are sleeping! And as you said usually you could get items at lower price. I think that decided you max-bid, with a snipe you have more probabilities to pay less, if you bid early, in the last minutes the people on line will test your bid till their max-bid. Only if they really want the item they enter a senseless max-bid, but I wouldn't risk a sensless max-bid because I could find a previous senseless max-bid, the main goal is the get the item at a lower price.

Sadly, another Windows based software. I have a MAC

Since I loose more than half of the auctions I partecipate for various reasons, I wish to give a try at Esnipe. Do you use it?
